Anyone remember Joe Flaherty's impersonation of Slim Whitman on SCTV? Or his "appearance" at a HS Star Trek convention in the Funky Winkerbean comic strip? Or his appearance on a Letterman show honoring stagehand Bob Rooney? During the 1970s he did indeed become a punchline for many jokes.
Absolut fantastisch. Geen andere woorden voor ik ben hier mee op gegroeid mijn paps draaide dit altijd en ken elk nummer dromen. Ik geef het nu door aan mijn kids ;-)
Absolut fantastic. No other words I grew up here with my dad played this. I can dream every number and know every song. I pass it on to my kids now;-)
Yes it was such a beautiful voice and yet even some of his (earlier?) recordings don't entirely capture it. The LP produced by UAS 29898 with tracks from 1962 to 1971 showcases Slim at his absolute best and is pure gold. Do not miss them.
omg there is so many jelous ppl this man is a LEGEND he has a voice that only others can dream abought i love this man one of the best singers ever withought a dowbt.. i grew up listning to slims music and know days wen i want to relive my best childhood yrs i just have to put slim whitman on I REMEMBER YOU frm jerrymike connors daughter maymay xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I know many other people who saw Slim on his final tour of the u.K. and they too thought he performed well. I also read many press reports to that effect. No one can be good all the time and especially at 80. Everybody has an off day because of illness or throat problems. There is video evidence out there showing Slim at one of his last performances and he was very good. If Slim thought he couldn't have done it, he wouldn't have undertaken such an ardous tour schedule.
I saw Slim at 3 venues during his last U.K. tour and he was wonderful. He should be immensely proud of himself for pulling it off, for someone who was at that time nearly 80 years of age. Yes, I did hear that he didn't do so well at one concert but for gods sake, give the man a break, afterall he had only just come out of hospital, immediately prior to the tour, which could have been cancelled.
I think he WAS a wonderful artist but he should not have signed up for a tour he was not capable of doing he did a disservice to himself and his fans.I did'nt want to remember him slumped in a chair at the corner of the stage while his son tried to cover for him.I supose this perfectly reasonable comment will be removed too as it does'nt fit your rose coloured vision of this artist.

When you pay £32.00 for 2 tickets and travel the miles I had to drive to see a star of my late teens, and see him go through the motions for 3 songs I repeat 3 songs then sit in full view of the audience while his son danced and sang like an idiot then I know who was a disgrace.

Went to see Slim in Newcastle about 4 years ago,the worst performance possible.I think he sang 3 songs then sat by the side of the stage for the rest of the night while his son pranced about the stage singing.I think his son kept moving all the time in case someone like myself hit him with something very very hard.Take my advice stay well clear of any shows given by Slim Whitman he was a disgrace.
Sorry, die Aufnahme haut mich nicht vom Hocker! Elvis gefällt mir da wesentlich besser. Unerreicht gut und für mich der absolut beste Interpret dieses Songs bleibt jedoch Ned Miller!
my uncles favourite song. got played at his funeral. sadly died ov alchoholism aged 46.. still loved him though. r.i.p uncle ezzer love u more than you know.. x x x
In one of Elvis Presley' best recording sessions, from 1969 in Memphis when he made a comeback with hits like "Suspicious Minds" "In the Ghetto," and "Kentucky Rain," Elvis recorded this song "From a Jack to a King." It was apparently a favor to his father who was present and really like the song, probably this version by Slim Whitman. Thanks for the post.
This was actually recorded on the 22.04.64 for his Country Songs/City Hits Album! Of course it has turned up on various other compilation Albums over the years including the one you refer to.
It is actually on 6 of Slim's 97 CD's and 8 of Slim's 134 LP's and numerous 45's and EP and a Mini LP. You should purchase Slim's Complete Discography 120 pages with photos and news.

Entertainers like this should be heralded. They dedicate their entire lives to us. Anyone who says anything rude about this man needs to reflect.

Continued .....So full marks for effort and not letting hss fans down. He obviously was in discomfort at times on stage because of his back problem!!

Life is hard. Music industry is harder. People need money. Lighten up on the guy. Thanks, Slim, for the great memories.
