That spinning move is a thing of beauty...complex but very deadly. Done full speed, it's over and done with before your attacker has a chance; game over. Great vid! You have a new subscriber. :)
Okay Jesus, SeguroMaan and nomamao, you've taken up over two full pages of the comments. Another quality skill to add to your arsenal is knowing when to quit, which neither of you seem to have.
What the fuck is the deal with you two? I think neither of you have been in a real fight; the fucking point of combat is to eliminate the threat and git out.
@nomamao God! you're ignorant. Every filipino martial art teach you how to used weapons. This is a drill to learn how to use the karambit. I think YOU need to be doing the thinking.
@SeguroMaan Yes, dead patterns on how to stab unarmed people are where knife training is at. I'm sure that anyone supplied with a knife couldn't just slice the hell out of a dude with no weapon at all, right? It takes years of training this way to learn how to do, right? OK, I'll let you stay on the short bus if you want to. Real knife training looks nothing like this.
@nomamao So you're saying that learning who to use a knife is useless? You should know that there's training in empty hand vs knife. And yeah anyone supplied with a knife who doesn't know how to use a knife against a experimented opponent that knows how to break your wrist in 4 places, and attack your eyes suckets, will get killed I know cause I've seen it. And the way you learn how to use the knife and fight against the knife is making drills.
@SeguroMaan lol, so all these people that stab MULTIPLE guys in the streets and go to jail and CONTINUE TO STAB people right and left... those guys don't know what they are doing when they stab unarmed people, because you've seen (I call bullshit on that, but) some guy break someone's wrist in 4 places during a real stabbing attempt? If you think it likely your wrist will get broken stabbing someone, continue to train for it. I know that's not the case. Do the math.
@nomamao Now, what you could be telling me is that the prison system is full of knife masters out there, but... I highly doubt it. COuld you tell me the percenage number of stab victims that break the assailant's wrist in 4 places? Let reality sink in. If you have a knife(or other weapon), that's about the only way you'll defend against one. Knife vs. empty hand always favors knife. Don't act like that's not a fact.
@nomamao And yeah Im not done. Think if you facing a robbery, the thief will cut you in angles and thrusts that are ussually known in Kali, why? because we learn how to use a knifes. The thief don't know that we know where he want to cut, that's why we train how to use and how to defend against basics attacks of the knife. This is a war art is made to that kind of situations. Saying that is useless to know how to use a knife knowing that you can get attack by one is still ignorant.
@nomamao Few people know how to defend against a knifes ergo the high percenage of stabbing. But only cause a thief knows how to use stab you doesn't mean that you can't defend yourself. This is for self defense purposes. Of course who has the knife has the advantage, but is not a fact that is impossible to do something against an attack.
@SeguroMaan i wouldn't advise anyone to think they can defend a knife bare-handed, no matter what training they've had. Only thing I've learned in training knifework is how to cut people the fuck up at any angle... and how danferous a knife is; I've not deluded myself into thinking that I'm a one man army and can defend against a knife because I know "the secrets." lol.
@nomamao I'm saying being prepare for an knife attack like in a war or if someone enters your home and try to hurt you and your family. Years of training willl give you speed and timing in your counter attacks, and will help you in a dangerous situation. Are you saying that is better to not know anything and just get cut? Knowing this things you should know how to protect yourself and your loveones's life. That "secrets" that you say save my life one time. So don't tell me that is useless.
@SeguroMaan I just don't buy that. How many actual stabbings have your survived due to this training? How many have your training partners survived due to this training? and, by "survived" I'm talking about coming up without being cut... You will find that answer to be "Zero" all the time. You see... we all train knives, but the best thing to know is to have one on you and how to use it as opposed to defending against one with nothing but your bare hands. Many masters will say the same.
@nomamao Many stabbings, and this a focused on coming up without being killed. Sure you will get cut if you fight 1 hour with a guy with a knife, all this is aplied in surprise situations. And my friends around the world, some of them in special forces, have apllied this technics in real situtations. Been unarmed against an armed opponent will always be a disadvantage, but is not useless to know what to do in that kind of situations. You may not have a weapon always with you.
@SeguroMaan so, you have personally survived many REAL stabbing attempts by people bent on doing your serious injury/death because of your awesome skills learned from your training? I know guys in various military backgrounds that learned weapon defenses and disarms, but they don't lie about what happens when you apply that stuff... you get stabbed and shot. Best defense against a weapon is to have your own. Simple as that.
@nomamao I'm not saying that you will not get cut, I'm saying you have more probabilty of getting out alive of a knife fight knowing this things. Is better get cut in the outside forearm than the neck. This is for life or death situations, you will do what ever it takes to survive, and if you don't have a weapon you have to know something, is better to know than not know.
@SeguroMaan I'm not sure you are aware of what kind of cuts a knife can give but I'm sure there's a vid somewhere of how serious those "cuts" can be. So, when you are stuck there with a huge flap of flesh hanging from your arm (the outside part) because you though it was a good call due to your training, please remain in a state of shock at how much blood spills all over you as you can't do anything about it. I , on the other hand, am not that naive. I carry a knife of my own.
@nomamao I'm pretty aware of the the cuts that a knife can give, I have my scars. I never said it's a good call get my arm cut, but that instead of my neck. The training gives you seconds to act. With training you get used to that kind of attacks and the blade starts to become your training partner and learn to evoid getting cut with the time. In a fight you will get hurt. The object of the training try to get less hurt and that's why we learn knife.
@SeguroMaan I'm not sure what little girl "cut" you with what dull knife, but in the real world, a man pulls a knife and attacks and pulls back as you use the outside of your arm to redirect his attack and you will be sliced open... 4-inch deep slashes in your forearm are not the kinds of cuts you walk away from. I'm talking about hospital stays that training can't prep you for. You tell me you know what a knife can do, but if you still think you're just getting cut, you don't know.
@nomamao There's a knowledge of foot woork and distance in the knife fighting. And I'm not using the outside of my arm to "block", I said the outside of the arm as an example of where you may get cut without bleeding to death in 4 minutes. If you think that you know everything about knives only because you know that you can cut deep. You will encounter an opponent that knows how to use a knife, that includes ofense against a knife. youtube.com/watch?v=IILerazWnuA&feature=related
@SeguroMaan I said "redirect" and you say "block"... lol. I know that I will be first to draw and first to cut, because nobody will know I even have a knife. This isn't about fighting fair.
@nomamao You said a use my outside forearm to redirect the attack, that's blocking. In knife tapping you use you whole body structure to flow with the motion of the attacker. And you may think that who draw first wins like in the old west. But you will not always know who you're fighting, the guy maybe wearing a leather jacket, or another protection in the arms, if you fail more than 1-3 fatal cuts, if the guy is a eskrimador he will killed you with his bare hands, his knife or your own knife.
@SeguroMaan It's not blocking, first and foremost. No, an eskimador will not kill me with his bare hands if I draw on him without him knowing. Sorry, but I feel you've been spending too much time drinking the koolaid. A real knife, stick, full contact fighter will know what's real about this demo and what's not. Very little real stuff going on here. I'm going to bow out now, because I feel you aren't coming from a realistic sense of what COMBAT is. Goodbye.
@nomamao Im pretty sure of what I'm saying. I've been in that kind of situations. I think you're no more than a common wanna be fighter. When you fight a eskrimador or an expert in self defense, I hope to be around to see that show. A thought you'll never quit. I was getting tired of trying to explain to you what is a real fight and what is training. I hope you'll have learne something for your own sake. Take care and keep that knife close to you.
@SeguroMaan lol. I've choked out "eskrimadors" at seminars they were teaching at, because they were showing BS and I called them on it. I've also thrown around Self-dense masters. When you get out and start fighting full contact, you'll know what's real and what's not. Running dead patterns and relying on word of mouth instead of experience will only get you so far. Enjoy your training.
@nomamao I always enjoy my training thank you. You've been training full contact? That's explains a lot. I did full contact myself and a lot of brazilian jiujitsu. And a knew a lot of deluded idiots ( you) that think that can beat everyone, including their own masters. Lol I'm sure that the "masters" you choked are really human weapons. Full contact it's a sport than you can use in real situations and it's ok, but when you encounter a Kali master or a Krav Maga expert that's the real deal.
@SeguroMaan lol. KRAV MAGA? Now, I know you're full of shit. You've ever gone hand to hand with someone from the REAL ISRAELI military? I have. Nothing big to show, either. It's all the same. Krav, on its own, needs quality control, because from place to place it could be shit or ok. Trust me, I've been around. And, for all your BJJ, you still think when someone tells you it's that easy to get head control and dominate, you believe them? Come the fuck on. If so, your BJJ training hates you.
@nomamao HHAHAHHHA How are you been? Give me a break, I never said I've trained Krav Maga, I don't like it. Im saying that you have no clue in the difference between a flow training and a real fight. And when it comes to head control it's not simple, requires certain control of your body mechanic and your oponnent. And btw Ray trained with the Gracie JJ. He also very good friends with them, so really doubt that you could joke him. Keep punching bags.
@SeguroMaan well, then if he knows it's not that easy to get that head control he demos in 32 seconds, why is he showing it like such? And, I don't care who he's friends with, when's he rolled? When's he defended real chokes? I've trained with 7th degree black belts in TKD, but I'm not a kicking wizard. I'm very good friends with them too.
@SeguroMaan the difference in fighting full contact and TRAINING it is that you know your limitations and don't live in a fantasy world. When dealing with knives, considering nobody has been stabbed multiple times, the training is always going to contain an element of fantasy, and much of that is seen in this vid. You can deny it all, but when you've been in a real fight, you know this for what it is.
@nomamao You could go to Ray Dionaldo seminar and try to choke him out, that will be a good show lol. I'm pretty sure that a killing machine like you won't have any problem xD.
@SeguroMaan I probably COULD, because he probably has ZERO ground game. I'm also not the only guy that could do it. You could enter Ray in a fuckin' grappling tourney and see how well he does. Let me know all about it. You obviously worship this guy, but I've been around the scene a long time and nothing this guy does impresses me. Have a good time training.
@nomamao Good your using your brain, after all this talking I was loosing hope. What's you're saying is in fact correct the common thiefs or killers use knife to "stab" as you say. That's one of the reasons that's way we train cause thiefs knows how to use the knife to stab . The idea of all this is self defense against the "stabbing" that's why all the drills. you're wrist will get broken in 4 places and then get slice in your carotid and femoral by your one knife if you face a eskrimador.
@nomamao And other thing if someone attacks you with a knife you should be able to know how to defend against it or know how to use a knife vs knife. This is for sake of training, and in karambit he is showing how to used the karambit ok? So if you think that you don't need to be trained in knife combat and that with a knife you will slice anyone and your invincible that's bullshit. If you think that you are deluded. The people who don't know anything about combat thinks only about "stab ".
The thing is, the karambit is primarily a silat weapon. And in silat they teach the karambit has a self defence tool. Not a battlefield weapon. What Dionaldo is doing is not how the weapon is taght or used properly. You use the karambit to stop the opponents limbs first. Then if it is absolutely needed you would follow up. what he is doing in that video is just daft and counter to all proper karambit techniques. It a shame that silat isnt popular in america.
@KuloKungFu I don't know about you, but when I was wrestling, if someone put their hand on my neck like that, I wasn't bending over right away. You might've, though. I guess it's all in how we train, right? I'm just saying that you shouldn't expect that response from anyone that knows how to keep posture. You know... those guys that actually fight? Right, THOSE guys.
I hate how these knife guys always make it look like controlling someone's head is so effortless. It's like "hey, I put my hand behind your neck, now come to me" --obviously, that's bullshit. Moves like that just won't work in combat of any kind. TRUST ME.
The Karambit does the work for you by way of its shape.. It's a claw and functions the same way.. With use of broad force manipulation in conjunction with the weapon, the Karambit allows the defensive combatant to control the assailant with appliance of the blade in the correct areas.. Yes some of the moves are flashy and complex, and may not have "real world" appeal, but the basics and fundamentals of this form make it the most practical and dynamic fighting systems ever conceived..
@nuttybollockz I'm talking specifically what goes on at about the 32 second mark. Nobody just dips their head because you have you bare hand behind it. TRUST ME. A year of crazy grappling showed me just that. You try that move for real and you will most likely just end up punched in the face.
What he SHOULD'VE done, which would take all the BS out of the move is just CLOSE THE DISTANCE and open up the guy's gut. I know it's not as flashy, but we both know that's what works.
@nuttybollockz I also happen to carry a colapsible karambit on me while I'm going to and from work. I know I would never rely on the move presented at 32 seconds in.
LOL well yeah.. I wouldn't use half of the techniques myself.. There's really a good 2 handfuls you can use when confronting an attacker initially... The other more advanced manipulations I'd only use if an opportunity presented itself...
@SeguroMaan lol. What? Am I supposed to fear this guy? Where's his fight record? lol. When it comes to knife work, the guy with the knife wins most if not all times. THat you don't know this is only telling of your lack of understanding of the fight game in reality.
@nomamao His fight record? hahahha he is the founder of FCS Filipino Combat Systems. Do you study any filipino martial arts ? You don't have a clue of the knowledge of timing, movement, flow energy, power Ray Dionaldo has. Any FCS member around the globe can tell you who Ray Dionaldo is. I don't blame you for been ignorant.
@SeguroMaan well, ask him if he knows who Grand Tujon Leo Gaje is, because I do know who that is and Pekiti Tersia has a proven record of kicking ass and taking names. Ask around. Ray Dionaldo may be a god, but this clip isn't doing him any justice when he's still thinking that behind the head stuff works that way. Anyone that's really fought can tell you how it works.
@nomamao Of course he knows who Tuhon Leo Gaje is. That's not the point, I asked you if you even have practice any filipino martial arts to go on an telling nooo that's the wrong way to do that, and by the way there's a diference when you're teaching a technic, you used something called drills. I've meet Ray Dioanldo and I've seen what he can do. He's one on best martial artists in the world, and I'm pretty sure he knows a lot more of fighting and killing arts than you do.
@7eyedviper Imagine him doing this fast, would you be able to stab him three times in the face while off-balanced and being oblivious of where his face is?
@darryl13245 Off balance to what, A shin kick? Since he would be right under my arm with my arm touching him I would definitely be able to do it. Really If you cant tell where something is while its touching you by all accounts you should be dead by the orders of natural selection. Not only that my left hand just has to go up three times in quick succession he would pretty much walk into it with that move.
@7eyedviper No, a kick to the Tibialis anterior or the Peroneus longus, aka the muscles on the outside of your leg. A hard enough kick there hurts, and it is paralyzing too. Don't talk about natural selection, I can't see his head touching the opponent in this video, and I don't see him wielding a knife either. If the opponent was wielding a knife, he would not be able to block like he did with his left hand, and Ray wouldn't take the risk using that move if the opponent was wielding a knife.
@darryl13245 I never said his head was touching, I said my arm would be touching him. and in the video his opponent his arm clearly touching his shoulder. I don't think that a kick to the outside of the leg is paralyzing at all.You could still punch him in the face multiple times with a quick succession of uppercuts. I can truly think of multiple opportunities to escape or even maim him. Either way I won't doubt this guys prowess with a blade but it is still a bad move to make.
@7eyedviper I am not saying that his shoulde is not touching, but I was saying that you wouldn't know where his head was (obviously you were saying that as long as something touched you, you would know where it was). Well the head was not touching, so how would you know where it was? You don't think it hurts? Well, you should try, let somebody kick you hard enough on the outside of you leg. It is not completely outside, more like the "corner" of your leg. Imagine him doing this fast. Still bad?
@darryl13245 As a fellow martial artist I have taken the time to train my body and I have decent if not outstanding peripheral vision like most of us should have. I failed to mention that in my first post which did sound bigoted. I apologize for that, but in my defense he would be with in my peripheral vision. As a martial artist (The ones that forge their bodies into weapons) I have trained and drilled to exploit any openings. He's good don't get me wrong. I just would not attempt this move.
Respond to this video... I also don't think the application of the kick is a good one as well. I would like to see this done with a stomping action to rake down the instep. I would also like him to have the kerambit closer to the body and not stretched out like that. To me that would be a better application for the said technique and a lot safe for him as well. I have enjoyed our conversation and would like to discuss further applications of techniqes with you since you show reason also.
@oyamarovic No shit? I think all people in the world are the same... Mexican, American, Chinese, African, Norwegians (etc.)... Even Frenchmen have many similarities to Americans... Propably they have the same roots somehow....
when u see that men just run away is the most complete master in fcs filipino combat systems he can cut 12 times in 1.5 sec i have seen him with my eyes he is so fast he makes faste martial artists not looking fast it's ray dionaldo
I'm looking to find/make a practice karambit for myself. I wanna learn to use the thing before I screw around with the real thing. Plus don't wanna practice with a live blade do i? Anybody know where I can get any rubber or wood pracitce karambit? Or is it a "make your own" kind of deal?
hmm, a training karambit might be a little hard to find, especially in the US, but we do have the combat wrench, which is a plastic impact weapon based off the karambit.
because of the way it's made, you'll definitely fight differently with it, but it follows the basic shape of one. i've held one a few times - i doubt its weight is distritubuted the same as the bladed one, but i'm sure of of the techniques could be practiced with it.
here's the site of the man who developed it: kellyworden com
Thanks, it IS hard to find any kind of practice karambit (don't think there are any wholesale makers in the US). I may end up just making it myself, but I'll keep the tip in mind.
@demboys18 : Cold Steel has a Karambit in its "Nightshade Series". Its calles FGX-Krambit and made out of Grivory. Go and buy such a thing! I own one too, and its really good for practice - just a little lighter than the original.
alright matye. you can get them anywere. if you go on to martial arts sies they ALWAYS have them on there. also, noth sure IF you do, but if you know how to box you can use it like that. well thats because western boxing got its movements from philipino boxing, which is derived from knife work. hold the blade sticking out the bottom of your hand, point facing out. and use hooks and upper cuts.
@timeperection If you want to fight him with a glock, you'd better have drawn your gun, unsecured it and aimed first, while standing at least 20 meters away. ;) 'Cause this guy can run up to you in a split second and cut your neck before you even have the chance to draw the Glock! :P
@timeperection :) but a knife can be used in the dark, makes no sound, doesnt jam, doesnt need reloading and can change directions un like a bullet ..but never take a knife to a gun fight :)
Does anybody know where to purchase the sheath/belt/rig Tuhon Dionaldo is wearing? Primarily the dual "behind the back-draw" setup shown in this video. Any info is appreciated. Thank you. Cheers.
why, so you can wear it into combat? Or just around, so people at starbucks know how badass you are. I know, why not get dual crossed samurai sword sheaths!...oh wait, is this for a halloween costume?
Nah, I already have the dual Samurai sheaths so people at Starbucks already know I'm badass. I'm just looking for the knife stuff now. Next, it'll be tomahawks and then the claymore from Braveheart.
The reason the drills are so long and look so far-feteched is because it's teaching you to employ those in a real fight. In a real fight, everything is fast paced & honestly you won't get all those hits in, but it teaches you so many ways to get a hit in from something, that you will get a hit (might not be the way you were taught, but you will).
And chances are, if it's a kerambit hit, it's going to hurt... a lot.
kali actually uses BOTH sticks AND knives. this is something I'm just finding out myself. kinda confusing, I know. the techniques are actually very similar. sometimes they even use a stick as a training weapon
It is not confusing at all. When you learn Kali you build skill to be used with any kind of hand weapon. You don't have to grasp new concepts when moving from blunt stick to machete or pocket knives because the core is the same. You don't need to learn everything again, just adapt (for instance with a stick you will want to hit the bones, with the knife you want to hit the artheries).
silat and kali are very different silat is like doing monkey dance before doing useless atacks that doesnt work in real life
kali on the other hand is a warrior art that kills the opponent as quickly as possibly
read the book
PIRATE OF THE WIND by owen rutter
its about the raiders of sulu sea they are most feared kali warriors from mindanao they control the entire south east asian waters they raid villages all over south east asia to take slaves only the spanish armada put them to a hault
Kali and Silat are not very different. I've studied both. They share many of the same core concepts and combat strategies (again, the Malay roots). The differences lay with application and training philosphies. If they were laid out on a family tree, they would be first cousins.
BTW, they don't call FMA "Kali" in the south Philippines. They call it Silat. Kali is a name used to marked FMA in the US. Most folks in PI woudn't know what you were talking about if you said Kali.
i am a martial artist since i was six kali is very different from silat i practice kali for years kali is very complete it is the most deadly martial art in the world from its empy hand to armed weapons no martial art comes close like its emptihands
panuntukan "dirty boxing"
sikaran "kicks"
dumog "grappling"
daga "knife fighting"
baston "stick"
i read books about kali i even went to the phillipine in cebu to study kali/arnis/escrima so i know alot about kali/arnis/escrima
Dude, I'm Filipino. I've studied FMA too, so I know what the art entails. I've also studied Silat. They are very similar in their combat applications and their core concepts are very similar as well...
There are hundreds of documented styles of silat, and probably thousands of undocumented styles. You can't say what silat is and create a big generalization like that. it's just ignorant.
wt fuck you say kid? stupid american! i train for years eskrima, whit karambit also fuck face! i wish you live close, you can say it to me in my face.. internet pussy!
I love how in this reply only his english suddenly drops to absolutely nothing, hahaha. Besides jackass, if you really were a good martial artist you'd understand the honor principal and not blow up in some guys face and threaten him, consider that one 'samurai'
First of all you clearly don't understand Eskrima and the Karambit, the style is about spontinuety, not following memorized 'choreographed movement' second, don't call me kid, I'm 20 asshole, third, don't you dare talk to me about surviving, I'm currently a combat medic in the army and know all about aspects of survival. You...your just the loser who thinks he knows anything and everything because he studies one move in a style.
If you were a marine you'd understand the concept of honor and integrity, not simply diving down someones throat in a discussion, or is that all your good at jarhead. Look, i don't give two shits if your 16 or 40, age is just a number, some people have a sense of denency to have a normal conversation, clearly that's not going to happen with you.
Yup, it looks too fancy. Krambit has been in my family for generations. It's strength is in it's ability to seem hidden from view, hence the hidden techniques. And the blades are usually smaller, one edge and made for slashing. In my region, if you need a bigger knife, get a parang or machete, better yet a 9-lok kris.
Man how can u claimed dat u guys r the king of kerambit?!!Most of Silat fighters can use Kerambit@kurambi.This is little hidden weapon!Ur kerambit a way too big dude!!its shud be smaller than that..BUT ITIS COOL ANYWAY
Simply put, there must be a considerable amount of resistance coming from the assailant when practising.. Otherwise it's simply unrealistic and pointless to train otherwise :S
Do you guys practice this with any resistance, IE the assailant resisting holds/spins? In a practial no holds barred knife fight, how do these techniques hold up? I only ask because I do own an Emerson Karambit and am looking for practical fighting uses for it. Thanks.
this sucks big time lol ... but what sux most is using a weapon in combat ( no matter what weapon from needles till scythe ) an art that kills can't be called art
i guess you find it amusing to jump from video to video, to post negativity for no reason. when did you become the difinitive authority on what defines "art". Put down your doritos and train.
That spinning move is a thing of beauty...complex but very deadly. Done full speed, it's over and done with before your attacker has a chance; game over. Great vid! You have a new subscriber. :)

SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@nomamao Few people know how to defend against a knifes ergo the high percenage of stabbing. But only cause a thief knows how to use stab you doesn't mean that you can't defend yourself. This is for self defense purposes. Of course who has the knife has the advantage, but is not a fact that is impossible to do something against an attack.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan i wouldn't advise anyone to think they can defend a knife bare-handed, no matter what training they've had. Only thing I've learned in training knifework is how to cut people the fuck up at any angle... and how danferous a knife is; I've not deluded myself into thinking that I'm a one man army and can defend against a knife because I know "the secrets." lol.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao I'm saying being prepare for an knife attack like in a war or if someone enters your home and try to hurt you and your family. Years of training willl give you speed and timing in your counter attacks, and will help you in a dangerous situation. Are you saying that is better to not know anything and just get cut? Knowing this things you should know how to protect yourself and your loveones's life. That "secrets" that you say save my life one time. So don't tell me that is useless.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan I just don't buy that. How many actual stabbings have your survived due to this training? How many have your training partners survived due to this training? and, by "survived" I'm talking about coming up without being cut... You will find that answer to be "Zero" all the time. You see... we all train knives, but the best thing to know is to have one on you and how to use it as opposed to defending against one with nothing but your bare hands. Many masters will say the same.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao Many stabbings, and this a focused on coming up without being killed. Sure you will get cut if you fight 1 hour with a guy with a knife, all this is aplied in surprise situations. And my friends around the world, some of them in special forces, have apllied this technics in real situtations. Been unarmed against an armed opponent will always be a disadvantage, but is not useless to know what to do in that kind of situations. You may not have a weapon always with you.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan so, you have personally survived many REAL stabbing attempts by people bent on doing your serious injury/death because of your awesome skills learned from your training? I know guys in various military backgrounds that learned weapon defenses and disarms, but they don't lie about what happens when you apply that stuff... you get stabbed and shot. Best defense against a weapon is to have your own. Simple as that.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao I'm not saying that you will not get cut, I'm saying you have more probabilty of getting out alive of a knife fight knowing this things. Is better get cut in the outside forearm than the neck. This is for life or death situations, you will do what ever it takes to survive, and if you don't have a weapon you have to know something, is better to know than not know.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan I'm not sure you are aware of what kind of cuts a knife can give but I'm sure there's a vid somewhere of how serious those "cuts" can be. So, when you are stuck there with a huge flap of flesh hanging from your arm (the outside part) because you though it was a good call due to your training, please remain in a state of shock at how much blood spills all over you as you can't do anything about it. I , on the other hand, am not that naive. I carry a knife of my own.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao I'm pretty aware of the the cuts that a knife can give, I have my scars. I never said it's a good call get my arm cut, but that instead of my neck. The training gives you seconds to act. With training you get used to that kind of attacks and the blade starts to become your training partner and learn to evoid getting cut with the time. In a fight you will get hurt. The object of the training try to get less hurt and that's why we learn knife.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan I'm not sure what little girl "cut" you with what dull knife, but in the real world, a man pulls a knife and attacks and pulls back as you use the outside of your arm to redirect his attack and you will be sliced open... 4-inch deep slashes in your forearm are not the kinds of cuts you walk away from. I'm talking about hospital stays that training can't prep you for. You tell me you know what a knife can do, but if you still think you're just getting cut, you don't know.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao There's a knowledge of foot woork and distance in the knife fighting. And I'm not using the outside of my arm to "block", I said the outside of the arm as an example of where you may get cut without bleeding to death in 4 minutes. If you think that you know everything about knives only because you know that you can cut deep. You will encounter an opponent that knows how to use a knife, that includes ofense against a knife. youtube.com/watch?v=IILerazWnuA&feature=related
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan I said "redirect" and you say "block"... lol. I know that I will be first to draw and first to cut, because nobody will know I even have a knife. This isn't about fighting fair.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao You said a use my outside forearm to redirect the attack, that's blocking. In knife tapping you use you whole body structure to flow with the motion of the attacker. And you may think that who draw first wins like in the old west. But you will not always know who you're fighting, the guy maybe wearing a leather jacket, or another protection in the arms, if you fail more than 1-3 fatal cuts, if the guy is a eskrimador he will killed you with his bare hands, his knife or your own knife.
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan It's not blocking, first and foremost. No, an eskimador will not kill me with his bare hands if I draw on him without him knowing. Sorry, but I feel you've been spending too much time drinking the koolaid. A real knife, stick, full contact fighter will know what's real about this demo and what's not. Very little real stuff going on here. I'm going to bow out now, because I feel you aren't coming from a realistic sense of what COMBAT is. Goodbye.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao Im pretty sure of what I'm saying. I've been in that kind of situations. I think you're no more than a common wanna be fighter. When you fight a eskrimador or an expert in self defense, I hope to be around to see that show. A thought you'll never quit. I was getting tired of trying to explain to you what is a real fight and what is training. I hope you'll have learne something for your own sake. Take care and keep that knife close to you.
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan lol. I've choked out "eskrimadors" at seminars they were teaching at, because they were showing BS and I called them on it. I've also thrown around Self-dense masters. When you get out and start fighting full contact, you'll know what's real and what's not. Running dead patterns and relying on word of mouth instead of experience will only get you so far. Enjoy your training.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao I always enjoy my training thank you. You've been training full contact? That's explains a lot. I did full contact myself and a lot of brazilian jiujitsu. And a knew a lot of deluded idiots ( you) that think that can beat everyone, including their own masters. Lol I'm sure that the "masters" you choked are really human weapons. Full contact it's a sport than you can use in real situations and it's ok, but when you encounter a Kali master or a Krav Maga expert that's the real deal.
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan lol. If so, your BJJ training hates you.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao HHAHAHHHA How are you been? Give me a break, I never said I've trained Krav Maga, I don't like it. Im saying that you have no clue in the difference between a flow training and a real fight. And when it comes to head control it's not simple, requires certain control of your body mechanic and your oponnent. And btw Ray trained with the Gracie JJ. He also very good friends with them, so really doubt that you could joke him. Keep punching bags.
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan well, then if he knows it's not that easy to get that head control he demos in 32 seconds, why is he showing it like such? And, I don't care who he's friends with, when's he rolled? When's he defended real chokes? I've trained with 7th degree black belts in TKD, but I'm not a kicking wizard. I'm very good friends with them too.
nomamao 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan the difference in fighting full contact and TRAINING it is that you know your limitations and don't live in a fantasy world. When dealing with knives, considering nobody has been stabbed multiple times, the training is always going to contain an element of fantasy, and much of that is seen in this vid. You can deny it all, but when you've been in a real fight, you know this for what it is.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao You could go to Ray Dionaldo seminar and try to choke him out, that will be a good show lol. I'm pretty sure that a killing machine like you won't have any problem xD.
SeguroMaan 3 months ago
@SeguroMaan I probably COULD, because he probably has ZERO ground game. I'm also not the only guy that could do it. You could enter Ray in a fuckin' grappling tourney and see how well he does. Let me know all about it. You obviously worship this guy, but I've been around the scene a long time and nothing this guy does impresses me. Have a good time training.
nomamao 3 months ago
@nomamao Many stabbings, and this a focused on coming up without being killed. Sure you will get cut if you fight 1 hour with a guy with a knife, all this is aplied in surprise situations. SeguroMaan 4 months ago
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@nomamao And other thing if someone attacks you with a knife you should be able to know how to defend against it or know how to use a knife vs knife. This is for sake of training, and in karambit he is showing how to used the karambit ok? So if you think that you don't need to be trained in knife combat and that with a knife you will slice anyone and your invincible that's bullshit. If you think that you are deluded. The people who don't know anything about combat thinks only about "stab ".
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
The thing is, the karambit is primarily a silat weapon. And in silat they teach the karambit has a self defence tool. Not a battlefield weapon. What Dionaldo is doing is not how the weapon is taght or used properly. You use the karambit to stop the opponents limbs first. Then if it is absolutely needed you would follow up. what he is doing in that video is just daft and counter to all proper karambit techniques. It a shame that silat isnt popular in america.

I hate how these knife guys always make it look like controlling someone's head is so effortless. It's like "hey, I put my hand behind your neck, now come to me" --obviously, that's bullshit. Moves like that just won't work in combat of any kind. TRUST ME.
nomamao 6 months ago
@nomamao
The Karambit does the work for you by way of its shape.. It's a claw and functions the same way.. With use of broad force manipulation in conjunction with the weapon, the Karambit allows the defensive combatant to control the assailant with appliance of the blade in the correct areas.. Yes some of the moves are flashy and complex, and may not have "real world" appeal, but the basics and fundamentals of this form make it the most practical and dynamic fighting systems ever conceived..
nuttybollockz 4 months ago
@nuttybollockz I'm talking specifically what goes on at about the 32 second mark. Nobody just dips their head because you have you bare hand behind it. TRUST ME. A year of crazy grappling showed me just that. You try that move for real and you will most likely just end up punched in the face.
What he SHOULD'VE done, which would take all the BS out of the move is just CLOSE THE DISTANCE and open up the guy's gut. I know it's not as flashy, but we both know that's what works.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nuttybollockz I also happen to carry a colapsible karambit on me while I'm going to and from work. I know I would never rely on the move presented at 32 seconds in.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao
LOL well yeah.. I wouldn't use half of the techniques myself.. There's really a good 2 handfuls you can use when confronting an attacker initially... The other more advanced manipulations I'd only use if an opportunity presented itself...
nuttybollockz 4 months ago
@nomamao obviously you don't have a clue who Ray Dionaldo is I DARE YOU try to fight this guy.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan lol. What? Am I supposed to fear this guy? Where's his fight record? lol. When it comes to knife work, the guy with the knife wins most if not all times. THat you don't know this is only telling of your lack of understanding of the fight game in reality.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao His fight record? hahahha he is the founder of FCS Filipino Combat Systems. Do you study any filipino martial arts ? You don't have a clue of the knowledge of timing, movement, flow energy, power Ray Dionaldo has. Any FCS member around the globe can tell you who Ray Dionaldo is. I don't blame you for been ignorant.
SeguroMaan 4 months ago
@SeguroMaan well, ask him if he knows who Grand Tujon Leo Gaje is, because I do know who that is and Pekiti Tersia has a proven record of kicking ass and taking names. Ask around. Ray Dionaldo may be a god, but this clip isn't doing him any justice when he's still thinking that behind the head stuff works that way. Anyone that's really fought can tell you how it works.
nomamao 4 months ago
@nomamao Of course he knows who Tuhon Leo Gaje is. That's not the point, I asked you if you even have practice any filipino martial arts to go on an telling nooo that's the wrong way to do that, and by the way there's a diference when you're teaching a technic, you used something called drills. I've meet Ray Dioanldo and I've seen what he can do. He's one on best martial artists in the world, and I'm pretty sure he knows a lot more of fighting and killing arts than you do.

When he ducked under the arm that was just a stupid move right there at the end of the video. Id stuck him three times in the face.
7eyedviper 1 year ago
@7eyedviper Imagine him doing this fast, would you be able to stab him three times in the face while off-balanced and being oblivious of where his face is?
darryl13245 8 months ago
@darryl13245 Off balance to what, A shin kick? Since he would be right under my arm with my arm touching him I would definitely be able to do it. Really If you cant tell where something is while its touching you by all accounts you should be dead by the orders of natural selection. Not only that my left hand just has to go up three times in quick succession he would pretty much walk into it with that move.
7eyedviper 8 months ago
@7eyedviper No, a kick to the Tibialis anterior or the Peroneus longus, aka the muscles on the outside of your leg. A hard enough kick there hurts, and it is paralyzing too. Don't talk about natural selection, I can't see his head touching the opponent in this video, and I don't see him wielding a knife either. If the opponent was wielding a knife, he would not be able to block like he did with his left hand, and Ray wouldn't take the risk using that move if the opponent was wielding a knife.
darryl13245 8 months ago
@darryl13245 I never said his head was touching, I said my arm would be touching him. and in the video his opponent his arm clearly touching his shoulder. I don't think that a kick to the outside of the leg is paralyzing at all.You could still punch him in the face multiple times with a quick succession of uppercuts. I can truly think of multiple opportunities to escape or even maim him. Either way I won't doubt this guys prowess with a blade but it is still a bad move to make.
7eyedviper 8 months ago

darryl13245 8 months ago
@7eyedviper I am not saying that his shoulde is not touching, but I was saying that you wouldn't know where his head was (obviously you were saying that as long as something touched you, you would know where it was). Well the head was not touching, so how would you know where it was? You don't think it hurts? Well, you should try, let somebody kick you hard enough on the outside of you leg. It is not completely outside, more like the "corner" of your leg. Imagine him doing this fast. Still bad?
darryl13245 8 months ago
@darryl13245 As a fellow martial artist I have taken the time to train my body and I have decent if not outstanding peripheral vision like most of us should have. I failed to mention that in my first post which did sound bigoted. I apologize for that, but in my defense he would be with in my peripheral vision. As a martial artist (The ones that forge their bodies into weapons) I have trained and drilled to exploit any openings. He's good don't get me wrong. I just would not attempt this move.
7eyedviper 8 months ago
Respond to this video... I also don't think the application of the kick is a good one as well. I would like to see this done with a stomping action to rake down the instep. I would also like him to have the kerambit closer to the body and not stretched out like that. To me that would be a better application for the said technique and a lot safe for him as well. I have enjoyed our conversation and would like to discuss further applications of techniqes with you since you show reason also.

hmm, a training karambit might be a little hard to find, especially in the US, but we do have the combat wrench, which is a plastic impact weapon based off the karambit.
because of the way it's made, you'll definitely fight differently with it, but it follows the basic shape of one. i've held one a few times - i doubt its weight is distritubuted the same as the bladed one, but i'm sure of of the techniques could be practiced with it.
here's the site of the man who developed it: kellyworden com

The reason the drills are so long and look so far-feteched is because it's teaching you to employ those in a real fight. In a real fight, everything is fast paced & honestly you won't get all those hits in, but it teaches you so many ways to get a hit in from something, that you will get a hit (might not be the way you were taught, but you will).
And chances are, if it's a kerambit hit, it's going to hurt... a lot.

for what i know..kali is just the stick part of the martial art coll´´penkjat silat´´ im i not write?
im sory if not!

kali actually uses BOTH sticks AND knives. this is something I'm just finding out myself. kinda confusing, I know. the techniques are actually very similar. sometimes they even use a stick as a training weapon
jimigourd 3 years ago
It is not confusing at all. When you learn Kali you build skill to be used with any kind of hand weapon. You don't have to grasp new concepts when moving from blunt stick to machete or pocket knives because the core is the same. You don't need to learn everything again, just adapt (for instance with a stick you will want to hit the bones, with the knife you want to hit the artheries).

Silat is a whole seperate art form Kali. They, however, are very similar as they come from the same root combat arts of Malaysia.
And Kali doesn't just use sticks. It is at heart a blade art. The sticks are, amongst other things, used to simlulate blades.
armynurseboy 2 years ago
silat and kali are very different silat is like doing monkey dance before doing useless atacks that doesnt work in real life
kali on the other hand is a warrior art that kills the opponent as quickly as possibly
read the book
PIRATE OF THE WIND by owen rutter
its about the raiders of sulu sea they are most feared kali warriors from mindanao they control the entire south east asian waters they raid villages all over south east asia to take slaves only the spanish armada put them to a hault
tirshack 2 years ago
Kali and Silat are not very different. I've studied both. They share many of the same core concepts and combat strategies (again, the Malay roots). The differences lay with application and training philosphies. If they were laid out on a family tree, they would be first cousins.
BTW, they don't call FMA "Kali" in the south Philippines. They call it Silat. Kali is a name used to marked FMA in the US. Most folks in PI woudn't know what you were talking about if you said Kali.

i am a martial artist since i was six kali is very different from silat i practice kali for years kali is very complete it is the most deadly martial art in the world from its empy hand to armed weapons no martial art comes close like its emptihands
panuntukan "dirty boxing"
sikaran "kicks"
dumog "grappling"
daga "knife fighting"
baston "stick"
i read books about kali i even went to the phillipine in cebu to study kali/arnis/escrima so i know alot about kali/arnis/escrima
tirshack 2 years ago
Dude, I'm Filipino. I've studied FMA too, so I know what the art entails. I've also studied Silat. They are very similar in their combat applications and their core concepts are very similar as well...

its not for showing off....

There are hundreds of documented styles of silat, and probably thousands of undocumented styles. You can't say what silat is and create a big generalization like that. it's just ignorant.
rinpoche1 2 years ago
it seems you know nothing about silat and philosophy behind it...i think your guru is useless- if you learn any.

I love how in this reply only his english suddenly drops to absolutely nothing, hahaha. Besides jackass, if you really were a good martial artist you'd understand the honor principal and not blow up in some guys face and threaten him, consider that one 'samurai'
SgtGShepherd 3 years ago
if you have to write dutch, you cant even write one word. but okay honor and art is not what im interest in in fight training.
i like to survive.. and surviving is much more effective if you train effective instead of choreagraphed movements. period.
but okay do it your way kid.
are you even allowed to watch this? haha
samurai184 3 years ago
First of all you clearly don't understand Eskrima and the Karambit, the style is about spontinuety, not following memorized 'choreographed movement' second, don't call me kid, I'm 20 asshole, third, don't you dare talk to me about surviving, I'm currently a combat medic in the army and know all about aspects of survival. You...your just the loser who thinks he knows anything and everything because he studies one move in a style.

for 25 years i practice martial arts now, also on the streets, iv been a marine. im 30 years old, and yes you sound like a stupid kid
samurai184 3 years ago
If you were a marine you'd understand the concept of honor and integrity, not simply diving down someones throat in a discussion, or is that all your good at jarhead. Look, i don't give two shits if your 16 or 40, age is just a number, some people have a sense of denency to have a normal conversation, clearly that's not going to happen with you.

Yup, it looks too fancy. Krambit has been in my family for generations. It's strength is in it's ability to seem hidden from view, hence the hidden techniques. And the blades are usually smaller, one edge and made for slashing. In my region, if you need a bigger knife, get a parang or machete, better yet a 9-lok kris.
aekae 3 years ago 4
Man how can u claimed dat u guys r the king of kerambit?!!Most of Silat fighters can use Kerambit@kurambi.This is little hidden weapon!Ur kerambit a way too big dude!!its shud be smaller than that..BUT ITIS COOL ANYWAY

love the footwork!
LeviathanAngel 3 years ago
Simply put, there must be a considerable amount of resistance coming from the assailant when practising.. Otherwise it's simply unrealistic and pointless to train otherwise :S

i agree
really strange concept: TRAIN THE WAY YOU FIGHT!
guiltybystander77 3 years ago
He is showing technique, what you don't know are the drills that are taught so that u can use the techniques.
jonton12swee 3 years ago
Do you guys practice this with any resistance, IE the assailant resisting holds/spins? In a practial no holds barred knife fight, how do these techniques hold up? I only ask because I do own an Emerson Karambit and am looking for practical fighting uses for it. Thanks.

That's about a bad ass mother-fucker.
Auctoratus78 3 years ago
I respect your opinion, but can not share it.
Look at todays Hollywood Movies (yeah, Film is Art. And there are weapons in many of them).
The Art of Samurai Swordfighting, or Zen Archery.... and in this case, the Fillipino Martial Arts.
timebird78 3 years ago
this sucks big time lol ... but what sux most is using a weapon in combat ( no matter what weapon from needles till scythe ) an art that kills can't be called art
logicut 3 years ago
i guess you find it amusing to jump from video to video, to post negativity for no reason. when did you become the difinitive authority on what defines "art". Put down your doritos and train.
