you#re flying so perfect.im gonna fly next week in italy. after that i will starting to learn soaring. i think its the best way to feel free near the ground. playtime ;)
Hi McD the problem with the BHPA is the number of thugs/bullies who comprise the 'vocal' element controlling the association.
I've NEVER EVER put up with bullying and I certainly will not do so from a bunch of incompetents who have injured and killed a truly appalling number of pilots!
FWIW I know a number of BHPA instructors who are VERY unhappy with the BHPA and what they are forced to teach... i.e. when PUSHED those BHPA instructors will admit they know much of BHPA 'theory' is WRONG!
As 75% of my students are RE-training EX-bhpa individuals I've had twelve+ years of being told 'First Hand Witnessed' horror stories about BHPA 'standards' of 'training'... in addition to the numerous BHPA accidents & injuries I've personally witnessed...
There is also the issue of numerous breaches of UK law (general and Air Law) by BHPA 'instructors' & 'pilots'... one BHPA Scottish instructor makes a LOT of money/publicity out of illegal tandem flying!!!
Just curious (and please note this is NOT a criticism!) but since you are (presumably) not a member of the BHPA, how did you manage to get your name on the club's 'Pilot list' to be permitted to fly there? Which club is that? Are they not affiliated with the BHPA? Just wondering who regulates the authorised pilots etc. Looks like a lovely site to fly! Nice one! ;-)
History behind the situation: The council closed down the site for a year following a 16 yr old ending up in a wheelchair following a kite accident, it took a year of negotiations before a LIMITED No. of NAMED members of ESP were permitted to again fly here, I am required to constantly review the list regarding flying standard & CURRENCY i.e. its NOT a case of 'named for life'!
NB BHPA Ltd has NO authority over PG in the UK, due to their appalling accident rates ESP Club is NOT in the BHPA!
Certainly it is in the interest of the BHPA to defend (inc. in court) their instructors, as such it is clearly a 'issue' for them to 'risk' admiting to any connection with dangerous errors in their training (theory/practice/procedures not to mention low training airtime) and the 'normal' PG accident rates......
I've been told of 'CP' rated BHPA pilots with as little as 20 mins airtime, while the normal is about 1-2 hours flown over 1-2 years 'training'!
Youll have to get the polcam on video Murray, so we can see what it loos like with the camera mounted? They say if u cover the mic with tape it will kill the wind muffling sound, but not your voice! Wonder if you could use a phone headset to record the instruction and add to sound track of video afterwards! Just athought!
Hi the 'pole' is a single leg from a Silk 88 tripod fitted (still to be welded) to a Au plate which 'clips' on to the seat board, the camera has a built in mic (Fuji FinePix 9500)
Future dev is to have a 2nd camera on the 'low level' mounting thread (between knees) pointing forwards or up as needed, in addition (waiting on new cable) to HeadCam wide footage etc.
'Green Screen' taking head is also intended for some clips (inc. better audio)
Hi Rob I'm playing 'catch up' on the footage from the last month, I got three flights in before the Mk II mount (not yet welded only held with 4 M3 bolts into the Au seat plate...) parted... the basic test went well but the design (as expected) still needs some 'comfort' (and strength!) mods before it is full use!
Students visiting: Netherlands (2nd visit) Norfolk (3rd visit) Inverness (1st trip, 3 training) Glasgow (3 students on visit 3, 2 on first visit) Edinburgh (3rd visit) etc. etc....
1956ron Now as it is a nice warm day why on earth would I want a helmet or gloves????
Of course if I was stupid enough to 'train' with the BHPA... and so be at a HIGH risk of Injury, Disablity or Death....
Just to let the viewers know.... perhaps Ron can let us all know just how many bhpa 'trained' students/pilots is it now that have died.....

The 'LTD' indicates something PG pilots and wannabe PG pilots should be aware of.
