  • I have been looking for this song for years. I didn't know the name of the song or the artist, so I just typed in a few lines, and finally found it here! I was 7 years old when this song came out. My older sisters used to play it on the record player back then. It isn't played on the radio that much so I haven't heard it in years. Great lead vocals, Doo Wop background & horns, but most of all, SUNG FROM THE SOUL! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This post made my day!

  • So good to this song get so many views. I recommended it right here years ago and I didn't know it would be so popular. Just one of my favorites of all time. "we argued but we wouldn't fight" whatever that means. My dream for Patti is that she could have been so much bigger...twice this song was released and I don't think it was appreciated either time.

  • Just stumbled on this. Was not familiar with Patty Drew. Awesome. Thanks for the post and the power of Youtube.

  • I agree... 1 of the greatest of all time...

  • There's another mix of this song that's far better.....with no horns.That one's a classic.This one...not so much.

I finally found that song when I turned 36 on Soul Divas, but I will $ her collection. To grandchild: many of us fans r requesting an Unsung Story (TVOne) on your grandma...a beautiful singer.

  • the picture of the pretty face on the video brought me here, then i heard classic music.........

  • this song can reach into your soul

  • Very attractive and has the pipes and the skills to pull this song off. It has to be a mistake to dislike this song. One of those fall in love songs. I imagine I would have to overlook the two out of 632 even though I don't understand the problem with the song. I can't imagine anyone outsinging her or saying she's not attractive.

  • That my friends grandmammy.

  • @x3KronikaTokeingx3 Patti Drew

  • I've been looking for this song forever... Love it. what wonderful memories. Great song... -) Love the melody and the brass, it makes the song and gives her voice that class and that chorus that jumps right at you w/ so much emotion... WOW!!!

  • I was eight years old, traveling by car with my parents to and from a football game involving my Dad's college. They had me set-up in the back of the family station wagon, with the car's radio set to a pop or soul station my Dad found (he couldn't tell the difference, and at that age I couldn't either!), and on the trip in-bound, while tail-gating after the game and on the trip home, I heard this song four times . . . and that's the last time I heard it until just now, over 40 years later!

  • @SmithNorthwest Ahhh, what a great story {and} an even better memory from your childhood. I'm smiling as I read your story. I was about the same age as you, when my older sister sung this song in a school talent show. I can remember it well. She and her girlfriends practice this song over and over. It was the best! Peace friend.

  • This version sounds so much better than any other.

  • I REMEMBER HOW GOOD SHE LOOKED. NICE VOICE.

  • Lauryn Hill Tell Him...

  • hell yeh

  • A great song and a very beautiful lady.

    :-)

No disrepect 2 Ms. Drew but there 'is' a slight resemble in the cutenes of her face

to Lil'' Kim when Kim was younger and before she got carried away with all the plastic surgery.

But that was just an observation.

(someone else mentioned that fact in an earlier comment as well, so no hate comments please)

Neverthe less,...Patti Drew stands an original and her work is timeless

    :-)

    Peace

  • LOVE THIS SONG....

  • This song was not beautiful. Words cannot describe it! Her voice and the beauty in her eyes would make ANY real man fall in love with her. Man, if this music was out now, things probably would'nt be so bad. AND for the idiot that compared her to lil kim, are you doing drugs while on you tube? This (real) woman cannot be compared to her at all. Im 46 and the only music I listen to is Big Band, Jazz, and Doo Wop music. This is the real stuff right here. Your granny is beautiful....

  • @Worldwide957 You are what is endearingly termed a "throwback". Do you know what that is? A throwback is a person..male or female...who is a certain age, but is moved by music, themes, dress, etc. from an age or era long before their actual generation. There are lots of us out there. Some people have this to an extreme....and some of them feel that perhaps they have actually lived in those prior times in a prior lifetime. I'm kind of one too (age 56), and think it's cool. Kindred spirits, maybe.

  • patti drew has a very sexy sexy voice. i also like Working on a Groovy Thing

  • ha I just had this dream from last night that I waz eating breakfast some where and this song waz playing.

  • sorry ! this is my daughters link, but that voice back in the day (low rider days) made my hair stand up!! now it even brings a tear to my eye how beautiful this song really is. and how sometimes woman are wrong!!!!! he he

  • singing from the heart, that's why it's the jam, and no one can duplicate, ahhhh her voice is so strong,, shit i'll go back to her in a heartbeat

  • Thought about many loves with this one....except it was "Tell Her"

  • Not only is this one of top 10 alltime..(and thats saying alot) favorites..Is anybody prettier than this chic?..This song remind me of the boys comin home and going to "da Nam"..I was a kid,but grew up to almost join them.

  • This reminds me of the "big boys" and cousins and neighbor boys coming back home from vietnam

  • Girl is putting it down, love her voice and the arrangment. Never knew who was singing this song. I Just Love it and I am going to play it again, heard it on the internet radio a few weeks ago after not hearing it for many many years and have not stop playing it since....

    Anthonyt2034

  • @kdrew2465 - wow, really? well, please tell her that I am extremely thankful for her music and I wish more of today's singers would realize you don't need all of these "tricks" like autotune, to make your voice sound amazing if you actually have an amazing voice like Patti Drew...I was born in the late 70's and was lucky enough to have parents that ONLY played good music...my kids WILL know who Patti Drew is, no "studio manufactured" music for me... =)

  • Just bought the cd last month. Love her voice. This is my favorite. Looking back I realize that we listened to pretty sophisticated music when we were young. This is not a throw away tune...the lyrics, the vocals, the arrangements, the band. We were being schooled. Tell Patti we are still listening and still buying, hint, hint.

  • Tell Patti I listened to her music when I was in Jr. High school and am still enjoying it now that I'm 58! Her voice is timeless as are her songs. Tell her thank you for the gift of hearing her music and the memories that come with it...love and light

  • want any info or giv her a message i can relay she loves to hear them!

  • This is my grandmother!

  • @kdrew2465

I absolutely love this recording. Like some of the other comments, my parents played only good music and Pattie was one of them. I was searching around asking if anyone knew the record, at the time I couldn't remember the artis name and when my brother played it, I was so excited and the music took me back to when I was 8 years old. A good feeling indeed! My best to your grandmother.

  • @kdrew2465 I'm her niece. Omg, that means you're family! =]

  • @kdrew2465 Tell her that I love her voice and music, and have since hearing her in the 60s. She worked this song! Great voice, phrasing and passion. It was released when I was 11 or 12. I remember her voice, phrasing and words, and the music so clearly. A thousand thanks to Patti Drew! Timeless and priceless!

  • @kdrew2465 ..Give me your grammas phone number..I would like to date her

  • @kdrew2465 she's very beautiful!

  • @kdrew2465 - I'm from Brooklyn. I was born and grew up in the Marcy Projects before JayZ was born. This was one of my favorites.

  • @kdrew2465 For real? Is she still with us? Thank you.

  • @kdrew2465 Tell her I'll be there. Tell her to perform more. Tell her good luck. Doo wop adds so much to a sexy sultry voice.

  • @kdrew2465 : OH that is sweet!!. This was all of our song in the neighbor hood when it was 1st. released!!!. I hope she is alright and you as well... goupul7....

  • Well tell your grandmother that I said hi from Alabama. I remember when my brothers used to listen to this. I was a little younger but I was right in there with them. We listened to your grandmother, Solomon Burke, Aretha and many more. Just thought I would mention that. I hope she is doing fine. God bless
