I saw MC5 and Amboy Dukes when I was 12 years old in 1968 in of all places, Roanoke, Virginia. Me and my best friend really stood out amongst the local hipperati, even Fred Smith asked if we were at the wrong concert, the Carpenters were playing across town. We were in the right place at the right time. To see these seminal bands, at that time and place was mind altering, especially for a 12 year old in Southwest Virgina. They kicked out the jams and my friend and I caught them!
