I remember when this album came out. I never heard it. I remember everyone was so down on it saying it was the worst thing ever set to vynil. I remember it was the butt of joke on comedy shows. As a kid I thought wow how could Stevie do something that bad. Now listening to it I have to wonder what the hell were people smokin back then.
Someone should call Stevie and tell him to change the lyrics from "bigger than most living things" to "biggest living things ever". You guys know what I'm talking about.
This is a song that can be used to campaign for the end of deforestation and war on Earth. How could any politician that considers himself conscientious deny the facts staring them in the face after watching the documentary to this soundtrack?
Laugh all U want but often this brings me to near tears, it's that powerful.
This is special music and the message behind it is one that must be heeded.
Some song writters are blessed for shape the sheer pure feeling of life and its strings such as time, love, deception and hope. the feeling we´ve got inside but for so many times unable to release away from our materialistic life. They are translators of all of this. They´re genius.
This album was a great job of screen music by Steivie. Everyone was surprised. At that time his talents had a great power after "Songs in the Key of Life ".

Há anos não ouvia este magnifico trabalho de steve wonder. è simplesmente maravilhoso. Os dois " LPs" são uma obra prima. Alguém podia pensar em regravar estas canções lindíssimas e com significado cada vez mais atual ( a flora mundial)
the notion of a covert existence behind what otherwise appeared beautiful and serene was one that intrigued me in my youth, searching for validity. the tension conveyed in the initial minor ninth chords speaks of something dark and secretive arriving at a fleeting respit as the refrain begins only to return to darkness...
does anybody remember this was a scratch'nsniff album and it had a sweete powder fragrance? I love everything about it. It should be re-released or digitilized, or whatever modern term is used nowadays. It should be used in a world campaign on global warming!!! just wonderfully beatiful!!!
I can't conceive the nucleus of all Begins inside a tiny seed And what we think as insignificant Provides the purest air we breathe But who am I to doubt or question the inevitable being For these are but a few discoveries We find inside the Secret Life of Plants A species smaller than the eye can see Or larger than most living things And yet we take from it without consent Our shelter, food, habilment
Within the structure of complex dynamic systems, such as the biosphere, there is an underlying process. Do not think linearly. The semantic map is not the territory. Everything is possible within the unfolding implicit invisible reality of entelechy. After all, we can not see the radio magnetic waves that operate our cell phones, and/or the morphogenetic pattern contained in a seed that makes possible the manifestation of a plant that gives us fruit that we can eat.
I remember, when I first listened to this album, a few years ago. I fell in love with it within the minute. :) It's not only my favourite album of Stevie, but rather my favourite album of all. I've never been touched more by any other's music than Stevie Wonder's.
And of course this song is one of the best of the album 'Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants'. It's absolutely genius, how the melody of this song appears over and over again throughout all the other pieces.
I was 11 yrs old hearing these lyrics, today's 11yr old what are they list/ening to Weezy's lollypop! PARENT PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM THESE MONSTERS!
One of the most humbling piece ever made. Today artist should listen to this song the puffs, kanye, 50's, weezy's etc and if these people have any soul or heart they would fall to their knee's and beg for God's forgiveness!
Brendonkas, you hit the nail on the head! True art is BEAUTY EXPRESSING TRUTH -- no more, no less. Even if the truth is ugly, it can be presented best by a BEAUTIFUL representation of reality. Stevie has always understood this. As others have said, thank God for Stevie! And God bless Johnnie Walker!

In my opinion, one of Stevie's most significant works. I wore out two sets of vinyl before finally getting the cd set. It is quite a stunning work!

In the eighties, when I did a housesit, I found this album and played it all the time. I remember it so well.
Whenever I work in my garden, the words 'oh I wish that I could come back as a flower...' pop into my mind.
Seems like a wonderful thing to come back and not be aware of all the crap that's going on in the world of humans...
An orchid sounds good... somewhere in an untouched jungle :)

When I desided to create my vinyl-library, at 1980, I started it with The Secret Life of Plants.
I didn't know, I didn't suspect that I'd buy the best music album ever.
Since then (CD's included), everything added to my music library is compared with this work in order to take it's advance.
The Secret Life of Plants is a Referal Album.
It goes to the very tops of Human Artistic creations.

'The Secret Life Of Plants' one of Stevie's underrated album that speaks the naked truth of our Mother Earth.
We must save our Mother Earth.
Love one another , no hatred, no war , no pollution ...
We are all God's beautiful creations ....
Let's us Pray for Peace and Love
Insyallah we'll be saved.

But who am I to doubt or question the inevitable being
For these are but a few discoveries
We find inside the Secret Life of Plants
But far too many give them in return
A stomp, cut, drown, or burn
As is they're nothing
But if you ask yourself where would you be
Without them you will find you would not
