Also if you have SolidWorks Proffessional you can import a sheet metal part (already folded) from a different CAD system (as an IGES or STEP format file) and use FeatureWorks with the sheet metal option to reverse engineer it so that it can be flattened.
This method can also be used when importing 2D flat pattern drawings from DraftSight, AutoCAD or similar 2D packages as DXF or DWG.
It is also possible to turn solid models into sheet metal using the 'Convert to Sheet Metal' option, it uses a wizard to step through the process and you can apply the usual sheet metal parameters.
Hi, yes you can fold a flat pattern into the formed shape using the 'Sketch Bend' option. First sketch or import the flat pattern and select 'Base Flange/Tab' to turn it into sheet metal and apply guage size, bend allowance etc.
Then using the Sketch Bend feature you can sketch bend lines directly onto the model faces and choose the angle and position of the bend. You could also use an underlying sketch.
Great ! Thank you !
