I've been a blues fan for 25 years plus and I still regard this as the GREATEST slow blues song I have ever heard, bar none. So yeah, BM, I 100 per cent agree with you! The world will never see his like again, though many have claimed his crown as the best Blues guitar player since Jimi. Why oh why did you have to leave us so soon, Stevie? - its a crying shame you're jammin with Jimi, not on some stage somewhere! Blues fans have been robbed-- robbed!! 21 years this year, since you left us.
This has the best sound quality, but my fav. is from "In The Beginning". So far that version can't be touched (IMHO). It flows so perfectly from start to finish, voice and execution of his instrument.
@srvinfinity That stinging note that he hits, following "I heard a woman scream..." on the 'In The Beginning' version is just jaw-dropping! Makes me shiver!
this is 5 years prior to the Montreux 85 performance with Johnny Copeland.. That performance is spectacular( less bad directoring)......but I love this solo as well. LONG LIVE SRV
I could listen to this a 1000 times and I'm still just SO SO impressed. As with all his performances i never grow tired. Thank you Stevie for being an infinite wonder.
This is the genre I that I really don't care about race...good blues is good blues...from johnny lee hooker to peter green...it's good enough for me...
what I LOVE about his earlier stuff is the intimate feeling you get from his shows, and the incredible tone from those thick strings he always used before switching to 11s later on... he just explodes during those solos
That being said sometimes he goes too far lol, one thing he learned when he got clean and got more experience was that on the slow songs you need to chill out a bit! as great as the playing is here, i think he plays too hard and too fast for this song
@Matt14500 By 1985 Stevie was already "on death row". He started drinking at 7 and (mis)using substances not long after. By 14 he was as heavy a drinker as only a born alcoholic can be. At 17 he taught he'd never live long enough to come of age. It's sad that alcohol and drugs started to take toll on him almost simultaneosly with his coming out of obscurity
@5507156693 ah but he was clean and sober when he passed - i have one of his pitch's - and he carried the message to others who suffer from alcoholism - he was just a gifted alcoholic who made it out of this world sober. that's special if u ask me
@5507156693 But that's not what killed him. He was clean and sober for years and then died in a helicopter crash leaving a show. So he wasn't on death row since he cleaned his act up. His death was a total accident due to bad weather.
I paused my porn for that..

@5507156693 Frankly who gives a shit what substances the guy used
and in what quantity. He was one of the best to ever play the blues, especially
for a white guy.. I know thats what I remember him for.
matanuskatundra2 1 year ago
@matanuskatundra2 Nobody gives a shit I guess but if the matter is to be talked over let at least the truth be said.
As for the "especially for a white guy"...well, I'm a white guy and I don't feel inferior to any otherwise colored guy. I guess you know what I mean

@Davey1977 I know what you mean Davey. His playing reflects
bursting energetic style of playing. It's almost as if he can quite
get the sound he wants. I attribute some of that pent up anxious
style of playing to the cocaine use. You don't have to be high on them
to be influenced by them. But to be able to convey that type of energy
is rare. Stevie is one of the few whose guitar playing literally speaks without the
lyrics.
The fastness is just part of his style and anxious character.

He has a great ability to tell a story in his songs.
