  • many long nights playing 4 player deathmatch with this game. i miss those days.

  • dude the shotgun shoots slower than the DOOM 2 SUPER SHOTTY

  • 2:36 nice intermission music!

it's like playing Doom on Sega dreamcast or quake 2 on dreamcast

  • i had fucking nightmares as a kid thanks to this game thus my love for videogames was born

  • i like the pc and ps1 version better

  • I beated this game on project 64 1.6 on easy, medium, and hard.

  • They butchered this port. It should have kicked the Playstation version's ass, but it came out worse.

  • @blowmeuptomleykis I really like this game btu havent played the pc or ps1 version, whats different about them?

  • The graphics are much smoother, there's much more animation, the weapons are models instead of sprites, instead of ambient music it's hard rock music by Sonic Mayhem. Instead of stand alone levels, the levels are connected through a hub system, effectively making the game longer and more involved. There's more enemies, and they actually have the final boss, the Makron.

So, basically, the N64 version is a butchered port with colored lighting and new levels.

  • The PSX version is about half the size of the PC game (so, half the hubs), with the same amount of levels as the N64. But the PSX version runs MUCH smoother, and plays much better. The N64 version runs slower, is choppier, and is reduced to a basic level set. Like I said, it has less types of enemies, and no final boss.

The N64 version is good as a collector's item, but it's worse in just about every way. The PSX even has smoother 4-player splitscreen.

  • @elbryan42 Yep. The only reason to get the N64 version is for collector purposes, or out of curiosity. I got it out of curiosity. Much prefer my PC and PS1 versions. Again, I'm an N64 fanboy as well, and it pains me to say this.

  • @blowmeuptomleykis me too, n64 fanboy right here

unfortunately this game looked and played like shit

shoddy graphics, terrible framerate and boring simple levels

i think it suffered because the cartridge was only 16 MB or something for this one. So it was much shorter, had fewer textures and less frames of animation

  • @bigswano no no, a fanboy is an Xbox fan, N64 fanboy doesn't make sense.

  • @superhellsing123 PS1 = good gfx, good animation, good framerate, good levels, OK controls.

PC = Best gfx, best animation, best framerate, best levels, and best controls.

N64 = Blurry gfx, bad animation, your gun seems to judder as you move it, small levels, , new, but inferior levels, OK controls.

This is coming from someone who is somewhat an N64 fanboy.

  • @blowmeuptomleykis did they take out levels for quake 1 on the n64 too?

  • I think there's 4 or 5 levels missing, and some level architecture. And it's missing the Spawn enemy. Overall, it plays very well and is a pretty good port.

  • @superhellsing123 Not played Quake 1 really.

  • @blowmeuptomleykis Thanks for the info mate you jus saved me some research!

  • it's not that bad but those animations are shit. even turok 1 had smooth animations but this not.

  • lookes cool :) sounds good too. Never thought that lvl are completely different then to the pc version.

  • I mostly played the pc version, but this version was cool. I wish they had used music for the n64 version like the one for the pc. The music was sooo kick ass.

  • INDEED N64 was WAYYY Ahead of its Time for a Cartridge Game!!

  • ya still have it 4 pc and you know what:

IT RUNS ON WIN7 x64!!! still love it

  • I love how all of you say how this version was so much more better. Well then, why was half of the levels missing, why dont we have that heavy metal to listen to, why does nintendo always have to have that backwards ass controls, and why does the N64 last boss suck balls? Oh, and the graphics on this game was inferior to the PSXs, so yeah. If anyone can think of anyhting that the N64 did better, then tell me.

  • @MegaJRockster It's great because rather than trying to be an exact port of the pc version and failing at it like Quake 64, it took it's own identity and made n64 exclusive levels which imo was a good choice.

  • @MegaJRockster It did everything better your just a dick

  • @METAL1ON Name one part of everything.

  • perfect dark is a n64 game the psx could only dream of.

  • @nooblet911 Metal Gear Solid is a game a N64 COULD NOT EVEN DREAM OF.

  • and majora's mask and conker's bad fur day are n64 games the psx could only dream of too.

  • @nooblet911 Final fantasy 7-9, Xenogears, Chrono cross, parasite eve, RE3, parapa the rapper, crash bandicoot, persona, etc PWNED.

  • actually you pwned yourself because the psx is three times weaker than n64.

  • @nooblet911 So?

  • if the n64 had a cd drive it would destroy the psx. just saying.

  • the sensitivity on my emulator version is out of wack..its rly hard to aim and it sucks cause i fucking love this game and its not the same playing it on easy as it is on hard..but as of now..no possible way for me to do hard

  • @11:10 the enemy was trying to t-bag you before he killed you !

  • Though the psx version is pointless compaired to the pc version. :P

  • @Doomsfall true that!

  • That Strogg was T bagging you at 1:10. Awesome game.

  • The ps1 version has slightly better graphics, effects and its more fluent but i still wanna play this version too :P

  • PC > PS1 > N64

  • @CALAdmin88 pc>ps1<n64

  • I think I'm the only one that prefers the N64 version of Quake II than the PC version.

  • @TrueAbsolution imo the ps1 version had the most badass soundtracks like "Stealth frag"

  • weapons look like sprited animations, dude.

    I'll stick to PC version

  • fuck i was 6 years old playing this shit because my dad thought rated m stood for rated "mat" which is my name. I got so fucking far in this shit when i wasthat young rofl

  • @soultaker879 I highly doubt someone is stupid enough to actually think that every M rated game stands for your name.

  • @MrThembones My dad doesn't know english~

  • @soultaker879 agh

  • didnt this come out for playstation 2 also?

  • Quake 2 is pretty good on the N64 no doubt, but a lot of the animations are lacking. The weapon animations in particular are pathethic.

As a whole though, great graphics for the system otherwise.

  • lol, the gun animations for the player remind me of Duke Nukem 3D for some reason

  • awww memories =D

  • this was my favorit game next to golden eye and perfect dark

  • I am sorry but the AI is stupid.

  • ...1:12 hes t-bagging...

  • I play this with the expansion pak. It seems very jerky.

  • the ambient music of quake 2 was indeed somthing of a marvel, i wish newer games would take heed of its effects and use it to make improvments rather than splashing cash at artists to outdo eachother.

  • I have to be honest, the flies buzzing around dead bodies scared me shitless. I'm quite insectophobic, you see.

And I remember owning this version of Quake 2. It was pretty nice, too.

  • PSX Version beat the crap out of this.

  • @Moisemo25 i happen to enjoy the nintendo 64 version with toned down texture clarity, framerate and sound quality. i find the gameplay for quake 2 64 quite fun and also considering that nintendo 64 had faster load time, a more clever switch between levels, and more original content. how about next time you go out and just say "mines better then yours", have some reasons ready. GO NINTENDO!

  • The PSX version IS better. The animation is better, there's a ton of rockin' music. It runs smoother. The hubbed levels are intact (making the levels more diverse, not just going to the end of the level). The PSX has more enemies, the real final boss, and makes few sacrifices besides super sensitive controls and half the levels of the PC (the same amount of levels as the PC, but with the re-visiting levels it's longer). Even multiplayer is more fun and smoother.

  • And all that is done on the PSX with 2 megs of memory. The only thing the N64 version has going for it is new levels.

  • @labtech200 Soundtrack, bitch.

  • The N64's ambient music is pretty good. But nowhere as good as the stuff by Aubrey Hodges (Doom 64, Quake 64, PSX Doom).

  • @elbryan42 Srsly, Quake II (PSX, XBOX 360, PC) has on of the best (if not the best) soundtracks that i've ever seen. And of course, psx graphics and gameplay are better then n64 version,

  • I 100% agree with you. The PSX version out performs the N64 version with the 4 meg expansion. So 2 megs vs 8 megs. Yeah, it was a lousy port that should've been done better.

Of course, this was very common in the N64 days. It seemed like developers saw cartridge only and decided to not even try, even though it sure was possible to have a huge game with tons of stuff. Look at Conker, Zelda, Resident Evil 2, and more. The N64 could handle it, most developers couldn't.

  • @elbryan42 At least, it has Doom 64 (which is awesome) and Quake 64. One thing that pisses me off is that PSX do not have a Quake 1 port and Doom on the PSX is kinda lame...

  • @elbryan42 and the 'Turok' games aswell

  • n64 version has smoother textures and the n64 pad feels better for first-person shooters

  • I like the 360 verison

  • Does anyone have the Main Menu music form this version? Its AWESOME!!

  • I miss this game so much. I used t rent it... I tried to emulate it recently and it didn't seem to work. Anyone can help? I tried the PSX and the PC versions but it's not the same :(

  • certainly better then the ps1 version

  • i say this is imo the best version of quake ii

  • I dont give a fuck what people say, this version is awesome, i grew up with this game, cant wait to get it again

  • @warwick2155 me too i love it

  • I used to always make the enemies fight each other, I'd try to lead one to shoot another, and then they go at it like two chumps while I'm right up front watching them.

anyways, awesome game that I got for xmas

  • @gitoffmahnutz i loved doing that :D id drag an enemy around half a misson to pit him against another baddie. or throw him in some lava/acid.

  • this is fun, but comared to the pcvesioon its c.rap

  • It seems like they took the Quake 1 engine and just integrated the Quake 2 textures on top :)

  • damn i miss these days, i would go back to them in a heart beat if i could

  • i still remember playing this when i was 4

    i got it 4 my b day

  • oh man I remeber playing this when I was little, this scared the living hell out of me. especially the robot that still shot at you when you were dead. (what was it's name?)

  • I remember this game as a kid (5, 6 maybe) and beating it on medium, then working on the hard difficulty. I reached the part after the planet full of mutents than I lost my game. Thanks for posting this video. I really liked this game as a kid. Also...You beat the bonus level? Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the one with the two hyper gliders and the two tanks? What do you do on that level? I remember playing it, but that 1 or 2 minute time limit was too little. Anyway, thanks for posting!

  • ahh i miss this game

  • i can get through the game within 1 - 3 hours depending when i need the toilet and stuff like that

  • i like the musik in this n64 version alot more anyone know where to get the soundtrack maybe?

  • whats with the 1 frame shooting and death animations

  • indeed

  • I just got this game today, its really REALLY kick ass.

  • I remember this game. It was a good version, with new levels that weren't on the pc. Has anyone ever beaten the bonus level "Twists"? If so, is there a vid of it on the tube? I never made it before the time ran out...

  • I beat it, but that was a very long time ago.

  • That's impressive! I think you should do it again, and post it on the tube =)

  • Do you need an expansion pack for this? also, my n64 was used that I got at a retro game store where I live and in the slot thing up front had a sticker that said "Do not remove the jumper pack" or whatever? is that something that came with newer 64's so I wouldn't need an expansion pack if I need an expansion pack for this game if it needs one?

Please answer so I can get this game and not be disappointed about not having an expansion pack when I actually needed one...

  • Nope, the expansion pack isn't required.. The expansion pack makes the graphics sharper though.

That sticker came with new N64's ever since they were first released. The jumper pack is a placeholder only. No N64's that I know of comes with the expansion.

  • n64 games go up to a higher resoultion than ps1 games.also the quake 2 version on ps1 had high picthed sound effects.

  • i think this version is better than the ps1 version because the music adds to the atmosphere and everything good awesome

  • this and the first quake should be be for the virtual console

  • if you have an xbox, just buy quake 4, it comes with a port of the pc version on the bonus disc, way better framerate and graphics than the 64 version.

  • I failed so bad at this game, lol.

  • I hope you have the expansion pack for this. I think its one of the few games that used it.

  • This game Goldene eye n Perfect dark were the best games for the n64

this game brings back memories i would always remember the black circles floating around some of the dead bodies trying to pass for flies lol

  • Comment removed

  • Steal the Bacon!

  • one of the best n64 games :}

  • I've only played bits and pieces of the "real" Quake 2, but after beating the N64 version it was evident to me that it was a castrated version of the original. No ducking, no hubs, no cutscenes, no ability to carry and use items later, none of the original music, and completely different level design. It was fun, sure, but it wasn't anything like the PC version.

  • I had this game on N64 a few years back. It sucked. The PC version looks 100x better. I also had Quake and the PC version slaps the hell out of the inferior N64 version. Also the PC versions of both are superior to the console verions, yes that goes for the ps1 as well.

  • What level of difficulty are you playing this on?

  • is this emulation or on the n64?

Is there sometime lag in the n64 version?

  • This is the actual N64. I never emulate. I don't recall any lay whatsoever on the N64.

  • No lag, it's just the shooting animations are missing a few frames...

  • Troubling to see the level design has been butchered. The areas are far too cramped and claustrophobic in contrast to the PC's open world, expansive architecture. If this was necessary to compensate for the N64's hardware, that's one hell of a limitation. No metal soundtrack? Disappointing, I wonder why they tore out the inventory system. Nevertheless it will be interesting to see how the game looks later on.

  • I don't know why they did that either. Maybe they were trying to make it more scary. IDK go play it on PC and Playstation, because they screwed this one up.

  • compared to psx version

    LOOKS LIKE SHIT

i really thought i would look better due the n64 specs are superior

    BUT IS SHIT

  • I had an original Quake 2 cd but it broke :(

but now i have Quake 4 special edition, which contains Quake 2plus its 2 expansions ^^

  • LOL the AI was kind of aimless. I loved N64 at the time but we've come a long way since.

  • Just love the skies on this port of Q2

  • I still have this game! I dug it out last week, man does it bring back memories.

  • i know

    :)

  • I LOVE NINTENDO 64

  • me too

  • the n64 version of Quake II looks alot the old doom games. i maybe because the gun and monsters are 2d. looks like a great classic

  • the gun ur carrying is 2d but the monsters r'nt???

  • Emulators just don't feel the same as the originals and can be very tempremental regardless of how powerful your pc is.

  • Hey dude are you using your real N64 or an emulator??

  • A real N64. All of my videos are on the real consoles. I never use emulators.

  • What's that for? he was only answering that guy's question.

  • there are some differences to each port

N64: features a bit lagging animation but blazing fast load times new lighting effects and completely different levels

PSX: full-motion video opening similar to the original PC version smoother graphic details and some levels that are in the original PC game

  • This is my favourite multiplayer game on any console at any time. It is even more enjoyable than Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The comedy factor in this is simply brilliant!!!!

  • oops (easy) is : FBBC VBBB FBBC VBF7

  • Ultimate gaming treasure on n64 !

load game do not use controller pak enter FBBC VBBB 7VBC 3BB5 rocket only time challenge.

    FLBC ZBBB FLBC ZBB9 (medium)

    FVBS LBBB 7VBC 3BB5 (hard)

  • Quake 2 N64's gun models where more true to the PC version. As well as the enemy models.

The sound and such as well were all from the PC version.

I have the PSX,N64 and PC version.

As far as weapons and such go for me, the N64 version looks and feels more true to the PC.

The PSX version's weapon models got a rehaul, and the textures look kinda grainy IMO.

The models on it are not the same as the pc as they are in the N64.

  • yeah theres only slowdown at every fucking close up shot

  • I didn't mind this port at all. It was a good distraction while I played it (recently), but overall, other than a good 4-player gaming session, it's pretty average.

    So... fun, but average.

  • i like this game. . .it's still a good port. it has good control, but it does have some slowdown to it. however, it's still fun to play.

  • your aim really sucks

  • c'mon, he plays better than I do! lol

  • It is a pain in the ass trying to aim on Quake 2 for N64.

  • wtf r u twalkin bout hes like the fps master its probably since he plays so many different ports of this the controls r kinda weird

  • Yeah some controls on console ports are just plain bad.

  • yo why is it that when my friend gave me this game on computer, i played it and the levels are different compared to nintendo 64 version.

  • Because, besides a level or two, the N64 version has completely new levels.

  • Someone needs to port these levels. I'd like to play them, seeing as Q2 is the only quake I beat until about 4 months ago.

  • oh and the animations where not all choppy.

  • this version is more of a mission pack then a actual game, but its good though. but i just noticed somthing weird, when i had this none of the goodies glowed and everything looked alot crisper.

  • For someone who seems to love quake, your command over the character's aim and movement sure is weak.

  • I BARELY play this version. I found it very boring and daunting.

  • thats how i fell about quake 1 on n64. Not fun as much as pc version

  • im sry but you suck id own you

  • it had the best graphics on the 64

  • Ay, I thought Quake II 64 was nice. Better than the mess of a port for the PSX. You can't even swim in that port!

Quake 4 was pretty cool, by the way.

  • What do you mean? You can swim in the PSX version. It has dual analog too. It also has hubs instead of standalone levels, more music, more graphical effects, more enemies, and runs smoother. The only drawback is the loading hallways, but they only load for about two seconds.

  • Yeah, I know, I blundered. I didn't play very far into the PSX version and didn't ever see a waterlogged area where it should have been (particulary in the sewer in level 3 where you swim to find that secret area).

    My bad. :D

  • No problem. You should check out my Quake II PSX vids to see more of the game. ;)

  • "Power Amplifier?" WHAT THE FUCK? ITS FUCKING QUAD DAMAGE!

    They fucked this up.

  • Yeah, Quake II for the N64 is its own beast.

  • whats the better quake saturn quake 64 quake 2for n64 or quake 2 for psone

  • i mean whats the best port of quake 1 and whats the best port of quake 2

  • Quake for the N64 is the best console port of Quake 1.

Quake II's best ports are either PSX or XBox360.

  • then i guess ile get quake 64 ans quake 2 for psone because i dont have quake 4 i like the classics

  • Buying Quake 4 for the XBox360 is worth it for Quake 2 alone.

I've played through Quake 2 multiple times, still have yet to play through Quake 4, and it's still well worth the money.

  • or get the pc special edition since it includes quake 2 and its 2 expension

  • i played this game and own it, only it didn't lag as much...

  • the texures for 64 are higher res the pc is pixelated

  • Not if you run the PC in OpenGL mode which is through your video card. That gets rid of the pixels and smooths and clears every texture up.

  • and quake2amx mod makes it even better

  • PC verion rocks your socks.

  • i have always wondered why they used sprites for the weapons and why the enemies had less frames and death animations. also disappearing bodies is wierd on this port.

  • I might buy this game in the near future, it looks very cool and it's different from the PC and PSX version.

I know this game supports the 4MB expansion pack. Does that help the choppy firing animations?

  • Nope, it just makes the game slightly sharper. In this video I'm using the 4MB expansion. Kinda sad, huh?

  • PC version is better

  • is it true it runs in 24 bit colurs with expansion pack?

  • Probaly Not As Good Graphics As Turok 2 But Still Better Quake Than The Ps1 Go 64

  • this game used too be like crack to me! lol

  • the only reason why the level are diffrent is because ur looking thru another soldiers eyes(ur no grunt anymore) so yeah

  • The weirdest part about the N64 version of Quake 2 (and the original quake on the N64 as well) was that it had loading. I'm not quite sure why.
