Kurdistan was always part of Iran from the time Cyrus (Kurosh) united the Persians and Medes untill the time of the Safavids.
However the Ottomans took most of it during the Safavid era and after the world war 2 Europe split Ottoman Kurdistan between Turkey, Iraq and Syria.
Iranian Kurds are still in their original place.

I admire Kurdish culture and history, they were one of the key contributors to the Iranian empires/civilizations. Kurds were the main element in the Sassanid empire before the Arabs invaded Iran with its capital Tisphoon (near modern day Baghdad). Kurds, Persians, Azaris, even Tajiks, all share the same Iranian language roots, the same Nowrooz, similar foods, unified history throughout time.
