Algorithmic synthesis or not, it's still great, and I wish I had me one of these time to time. The closest I have at the moment is a Kawaii PH50 plugged into the MIDI port on my 486. :P
@manuelink64 The easiest way to think of LA synthesis is a very short recorded sample of an instrument attached to a generated waveform. This means that patches take up extremely little space but still sound convincing - as human sound recognition is heavily influenced by hearing the attack of a sound.
@manuelink64 Then I'm glad we 3 have an agreement. But: This is LA synthesis, not FM synthesis.
LA synthesis consisted of 4 parts per patch that could either be analog or sampled, this was controlled by 13 structures defining how the sound was to be designed, just like the DX7's algorithms... You had up to 256 sampled waveforms that was basically just plain sampled instrument waveforms and sampled attacks of real instruments. The magic happens when you combine those 4 parts into one patch.
YES! blast from the past! I love the ol' 90's slap bass cheeze.. i remember being SOooo excited when i got my SB16 first working and got to hear this..
Well, it starts with the USB to MIDI interface from the computer going to the MT-32, the audio signals then get sent from the MT-32 to the Line In socket of my computer via a cable, and the video camera is using the Line Input as the audio source instead of the microphone.
Absolutely, I hate the Microshit softsynth built into Windows, although I love old MIDI synthesizers, such as the MT-32 and the old OLP2 SoundBlaster cards. Aahhh, good times.
@HarryMatic well, the SoundBlaster wasn't even a MIDI synth it was a FM synth that used software to convert the MIDI signals to directions on what to synth.
sounds like the actional thing! It sounds like its Simcity 2000 :-)

@xan1242 thanks for the correct info, it's LA similar to Sample-bases synth?

@manuelink64 Yes,it uses PCM samples as well.

I'll never get rid of my Roland LAPC-1! Passport.mid and Canyon.mid never sounded better back in the Win3.1 and Win95 days.

How did record it? Did you connect.... a Roland MT-32 to a Computer, and a Computer to the Stereo?
And than how?
Or maybe I'm just stupid

The MT-32 is quite a different animal from the Microsoft MIDI synthesizer, isn't it?

That's pretty cool! I have an MT-32 as well, though I'm not very good at programming it. How did you map the voices so accurately?

After running the General MIDI patch, I swapped around some of the patches in my MIDI file editor, Cakewalk Music Creator.

i've only heard this on FM synth on PC, then on Microsoft/Roland synth on PC, your sound module makes it sound even worse :P (BETTER!!!!)
