  • @architectus777 This is really very helpful. I got a lot out of this video!

  • Awesome!

  • This is absolutely great, many thanks for sharing!

  • Screw bob I hate that guy. Na seriously though was interesting and helpful thanks

  • Yo man fuck bob. Lol thanks was interesting and helpful

  • Did he said underlining instead of underlying?

  • Sub me for the upcoming Woods Show, which will serve as a platform to exchange ideas in regards to stories. If you sub me as a fellow writer, I will promote your channel at some point on the show.

    Cheers

  • My apologies if you've already answered this, but is "Write Great Fiction: Character, Emotion, Point of View' the correct name of the suggested reading? I can't find that exact name. Can you provide the name of the author? Thanks in advance! By the way, AWESOME series of videos... even the first round. (I've yet to watch the new and improved version. )

  • ***SPEAK LOL, Im typing on an Android keyboard, everyone, please excruse all typos and lack of punctuation. Writting is God.

  • @treid100182 I get it, but be careful. There is a temptation to be different for defference sake, I learned that lesson 67 chapters ago, and breaking the mold with something that is simply different and nothing else, well, that's not the essence of writting. You always spreak from the heart, but, there is a science to everything, and even free thoughts must follow SOME basic language to be cohearant. Good luck out there.

  • @architectus777 thanks. For what its worth, I would advise to any other aspiring writter to not be afraid to draw inspiration from other works of art. A very big problem I had when begining to write was the fear of plagarizm. Avoiding similarities with other stories is simply impossible, you really just have to take a theme or an idea and make it your own, and develope your own schematic before following someone elses guidelines or suggestions. GL.

  • Does it work when a character does not know the goal? Even with plent of reason or explaination, the main character does not know what they are working to acheive. Would this work with plenty of clearly guided sub-plots?

  • @majicjhonson The psychology behind good story telling is we care about what the character strongly desires, so long as the writer gave us reasons to care about the character. But if the character is content, then it will be hard to keep us interested. The character needs to want something and needs to try hard to get it. So long as the character is always trying to get something they strongly desire, we will be interested. So the ultimate goal they are going toward need not be known.

  • Actually this dosnt seem to make sense if you haven't been to uni

  • @treid100182 shut up

  • Jacks desire.. Is because somebody raped his sister!

:O Went pretty dark there for a second.. LOL!

    Awesome.

  • what if your main character doesn't have a desire in the beginning of the story (you know just doing his job and enjoying it.) but rather later in the story he learns what he really wants.

  • @Kingaskong1234 Often times desire and need aren't the same thing. The character desires the hot chick in school, but what he needs is the more nerdy chick that sits in the library. She will truly make him happy. But the character needs a goal, something he wants, something he is trying to get, or the story goes nowhere. The goals can change throughout the story.

  • @architectus777 but the main character in the story as well as most of the other younger main characters don't have an overall goal, it's more like in the beginning of the series they are sent on missions, while a mysterious figure constantly visits the main character telling him things about the main characters forgotten past. I don't want to go in deeper than that i feel like im spoiling the story.

  • to painful to finish the first video

  • excuse but i'am writting a fantasy novel based on a game and i was wondering if you could give me a few tips and pointers or tips on how to prepare my story becaues i'am a little lost on expressing myself atm

  • trid 100

nobody forced u 2 watch it. if u dont like this then just ignore n leave.

the truth is u r being jelous coz this vidio is helping lots of people to know the structure of story.

  • FUCK THIS GUY!!!!!

"I wanna learn from people who have won awards?" WTF?

Just like the Oscars, Grammys, Academy Awards...it's mostly based on sales, and the award usually goes to the most talentless of the bunch.

Substance is everything and the true artists break the mold, which, in the literary world of the 21st century, will likely go unnoticed.

AWARDS really don't amount to much OTHER THAN SELF-GRATIFICATION.

  • @treid100182 Everyone has an opinion, but that doesn't make them correct. I tend to believe that those that get so emotional tend to be incorrect in their arguments.

  • @architectus777 and I believe that believing that being emotional tend to be incorrect to be callow--the speaker is merely the carrier, and truths are there whether the messenger was emotional or not. And besides, coming from a writer, how can you degrade someone being emotional, that strong belief, and say it to use it to improve one's work? Hypocrite evident.

  • @CrabTastingMan I'm not sure exactly what you're on about to be honest. However, being a writer doesn't automatically make you an emotional person, no more than being in the Mafia makes you Catholic.

  • Hey man, thanks I will use all your useful informations to make my movie!! ;D

Thanks a lot, I added the video to my favorites :]

  • All I can say is Thank You so much for enlightening me with your inspiring wisdom. You see I am merrily a child with an overwhelming imagination and I admire all aspects of the art of writing and literature. Unfortunately, I'm not to good in writing an actual story, I have the imagination witch allows me to create the most intricate of stories, but not the slightest knowledge in how to actually structure my ideas. Thankfully I happened to come upon this brilliant video. It really helped me in

  • 2 yrs in prison!!?? (he should have killed bob)

    :o)

    5stars

  • @00MORDRED i thought the same thing.... at least bob will get butt raped in prison

  • you didn't put the authors of the books - there are a lot of titles out there that are "between the lines"

  • @Xelanderthomas Between the Lines by Jessica Page Morrell. The Anatomy of Story by John Truby.

  • @architectus777 Thanks. You are fast. Great series of videos

  • I've been writing for years and I really have to agree that these strong foundations are very important. Alot of my old works suffered because they went nowhere. Thanks for this. I look forward to more.

  • All I really want to do is to write and keep journals of my days haha

how would I make my days sound alive,

    and vivid sort of speak?

  • I have to comment twice bcoz of character limitations :-)

@architectus777 - awesome job, please try to upload video for

    - how to develop unforgettable characters

    - how to write punchy dialogues

Thanks you very much. Saving this video to my favorites..... cheers.....

  • First of all, this is really good that you uploaded this video. It will really help lot of aspiring writers.

When I was watching this video, two stories came in my mind which describes perfectly this structure. 1. Kill Bill Volumes by Quentin Tarrantino where the title itself screams the end of the story. 2. The Pursuit of Happyness, where in the opening scene the protagonist's goal was clearly defined. That's the reason, when Will Smith got the job, I bet that anyone will cry 4 the last scene.

  • I just use a website called CHAINWRITE that allows you to write stories, switching off paragraph by paragraph with friends.

  • @Chainwrite That might be fun, but it will not really help one with formulating good stories, or sentence structure, or much of anything. We used to do that for fun on different writing forums, though. If it makes you write, that is good.

  • "Jack's Desire is to get revenge, because somebody raped his sister".

  • I Learnt

  • Can someone post me the names of those books mentioned at the very start, pls ,pls thks

  • Hey your videos are really thankful. I'm gonna look into the list of books. But can you include the authors please. Thanks.

  • hey architectus I just want to say thanks for the videos, they are supurb. I first watched these videos a few months ago on a whim on wanting learn how to write. After watching these videos it ignited something within me and so for last few months I have been obsessively learning, researching and writing. So once again thanks for the videos there've been like a mentor to me.

  • This is nice, basic information. It would be better if you had better sound quality. It's starting to give me a headache so I can't comment on the rest of the series.

  • cool il check it out. Have you any videos regarding what to do once you have a manuscript written up as in who to approach?

  • @therealothello I don't have any videos on publishing, but I should make one.

  • quick question should a best selling novel have an effective use of language or a compelling story? I think I have a interesting story but I can not help but doubt my writhing ability, not that I am a poor writer but rather I am no stephen king more of a steph meyer.

  • @therealothello Many don't have fancy language. Lots of them are just in a down to earth voice, as if a friend is telling you a story. Of course, you should write the most graceful sentences you can, but that doesn't mean fluffy.

I have a series on writing powerful sentences in my playlists, if you wish to check it out.

  • Thanks for this. I havn't actually started writing my story yet, just thoughts floating around in my head. I was originally thinking too much about the story and environment rather than the characters and what they're feeling. I didn't even have a 'main character' just lots of smaller characters that were involved in the events or the story. This has helped me compact it down and I understand my story a lot more now. Cheers! <3

  • You can message me first so I can make sure you are not a scam artist. Until then, I must remove your message.

  • "if you have a character and he has this moral dilemma but doesen't know what his goal is..."

I LOVE YOU!! XD That's what was stopping me. I was looking for "conflict" but couldn't come up with anything that fit. Well of course, if I don't know what my MC wants :P Ty!!

  • congrats you just got subscribed

  • Muchas garcias por este trabajo que es de mucha ayuda para los que estamos empezando en el arte del escribir. Thanks you by share it.

  • great video man... thank you for taking your time.

  • I love it already! This really helps! thankyou very much! :D

  • any chance of posting to teachertube? youtube is blocked by many school districts; useful information

  • @cmaas5198 Use proxy server then. Hope its not too late. lol ;)

  • Great work.... thanks a lot for sharing....

  • This video is awesome! Great Job!

  • Most of the comments/criticism are not helpful so please get the hell off the highway or else post something "better". I think this guy did a great job presenting the best of the best from his own research.

  • True. And every time the ending I had originally planned is not exactly how things turn out.

If you don't know the ending, then foreshadowing will be difficult, and will have to later be inserted. If done that way, hopefully it doesnt feel inserted. If you know the ending, the foreshadowing will come naturally.

  • I really like the way you break the information down. I totally agree with making the ending available to the writer/reader ahead of time, Kurt Vonnegut does this also. I feel like you've helped me more in these few minutes than my own creative writing workshop has done. Thanks so much for posting this and please continue to make more!

  • I can't help but picture Matthew Broderick in Ferris Beuler's Day Off when listening, you sound a lot like him. Haha. Thanks for the videos. :)

  • That's the time I heard that, interesting.

  • I disagree with your statement that you must know the ending before you start or otherwise you will just chug along and not have a good ending. That's not how I write. I write a story as I go and in doing so I suprise myself and the reader. Otherwise, the ending is often predictable or boring

  • I don't mean to state it as a matter of fact, but just that if you know the ending it is easy to get your characters there.

  • The most important thing to remember when discussing intricate story structure is to keep it subtle. I think when you begin a story, start it stupid. It should be a crazy amalgamation of cliche and then, as you sharply pointed out, and then you work from there. I WAY concur with your sharp assertion that the ending should be unearthed first and then everything before will follow. The best writers are the most manipulative.

This here is really quality material. Thank you.

  • so much rape o.0

    its a tragity aready sniffs!!!

  • Hey, great stuff! Can these ideas be applied to comic book storytelling?

  • They can be used for any sort of story telling.

  • i used this in my lesson it very good useful

  • If you enjoed it leave a comment. Also let me know what topics you would like to see in the future, thanks.
