Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
I used to have a nice clean copy of this on VHS. It got stolen and I could never find it again. I wish I could find a perfect copy. Nice to see it here though.
Hey, clip was first played on Old Grey Whistle Test television program. Lp's didn't use to have video footage, editors chose odd films to back music up on TV (see also Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells on the program with German ski film).
No wonder, beat & film don't always match!
It's still amazing how much of a kick start the clip gave Pink Floyd's art work later.
The dance in the animatics dont fit in the music... when i hear one of these days, i see a rise of a new nation who is at war with an older nation.... then it escalete, the tension starts to build. So finally one leader says "One of these days i'm going to cut you into little pieces", a fierce battle between the two sides starts. The guitar solo represents the one who is on the winning side. And the song ends with an result with both sides dead.
I first discovered this song on my way home while coming down off my first acid experience. My friend described it as the most intense song he had ever heard. At the time we agreed it was the best song ever made even though it had no lyrics. Of course then came "one of these days I'm going to cut you into little peices!" Anyone know where I can find this on DVD or even just better quality?
Pink Floyd 1971 album "Meddle"; their 1988 album "Delicate Sound of Thunder" and/or their 1971 DVD "Live At Pompeii" (fantastic live experience) and/or their quite recently edited DVD "Pulse." Best, KennethVJ
its not one of these days its pink floyd. Every song they made is a feeling or cluster of them traslated into music, the fact that pink is controling your emotion based on what they were feeling when they played the song thats whats intense
LMAO i saw this at a movie house in cleveland, part of the fantastic animation festival... stoned out of my head of course... first time i ever heard this song.. of course i went and bought all the floyd albumbs up to that point... it was 1975 i believe
Not what I would have thought of synching the song with. Pink Floyd's other film stuff done with Storm Thorgson and Gerald Scarffe is much better. I think this may be from a BBC tv show called Old Grey Whistle Test.
Pink Floyd actually provided music for a Ballet company in France in 1972. I've seen some pictures. Very odd, it was Pink Floyd's usual stage show of the time except the stage was lined with dancers in tutus.
I've seen this a couple of times on VH1 Classic, it works much better on TV and actually fits the tune very well. It reminds me a little of the Let Forever Be video in the way it flows.
I've always loved this...it's music and video you think couldn't go together, but they do and it looks so weird...who says you can't dance to Pink Floyd? :)
This was done by a French dude, wasn't it ?

Surely the boys had a look at that and thought...that's pure shite. The ballet dancers ruin the song.

I love how you get a fraction of a second of Rick Wakeman's back at the beginning of the video. It must have been a tough choice to tape over that.

Hello! I can recommend these following solutions:
Pink Floyd 1971 album "Meddle"; their 1988 album "Delicate Sound of Thunder" and/or their 1971 DVD "Live At Pompeii" (fantastic live experience) and/or their quite recently edited DVD "Pulse." Best, KennethVJ

Sorry, Floyd fans, but although Pink Floyd is my favorite band, Achilles Last Stand is the most intense musical experience I've ever had too.

By the way, the title of the animation itself is called "French Windows". I have the film on 16mm in my collection. It was produced by Ian Emes.
