between the basic marine and basic army infantry, basic marine wins because of better marksmanship. However once you take a step up to Special Op groups like Rangers, SF, Force Recon (or MARSOC now) etc Army takes the cake. Rangers best light infantry in the world.

@rketer ok, im not saying they cant, but they are officially certified at a longer distance than standard US army infantry out of OSUT. and thats a very big reason. Yes there is more, but id say that this is a major reason alot of people conceive marines to be better. Plus they shoot anything that moves, even rocks.
However I think that any army spec-ops (Rangers, SF, 160th SOAR, etc takes the cake over Marine MARSOC, and Marine task forces.
@back211, your talking about the USMC quals in 500 meters while the army does 300 meters. The Army BCT doesnt have to qual in 500 meters, but we do shoot them for practice- targets that move, while we are out of breathe from sprinting full gear up hill. Its called Firing under stress or stress firing.
@rketer BTW the only ppl at ranger school that found it "good ol fun" were the batt boys and the one marine. All the NCOs and some officers not in ranger batt, had a hardass time during night landnav. Just saying
@back211 Ranger school is the US Army's premier leadership course. Though it is run by Tradoc, its no joke. The Marines who attend Ranger school aren't ordinary Marines. The USMC doesnt send just any POG or washed up Marine. They send in their best, who deserve or win a chance at Ranger School from competitions. They are usually from the Recon Community.

@back211 lol how can you compare MARSOC to RANGERS... MARSOC is special forces... Rangers are specialized infantry... You could compare regular Recon to Rangers. MARSOC works with SOCOM, Rangers are not special forces by any means..... Now on to army taking the cake.... and even the regular Recon Marines receive more training than Rangers... 3 months boot, 3 months infantry school, 3 months recon training, and one month specialized school (diving, jumping, survival school), or all three
@spaceman8988... Actually for Recon Marines it's, first 3 months boot, then they have a 13 week basic recon marine course, then army airborne school, ranger school and then SERE school. Force recon goes to navy dive school which is a hard school, dive school army and navy are the most dropped out schools in the military. And Rangers are part of JSOC, sooooo you can do the math on that one!

Recon Marines never go through army ranger school... EVER. They also go to SOI like I said which is a three month advanced infantry course before they enter, BRT or MART... also the schools they take after that are optional, as you can pick one school minimum and the others you dont have to go to...

Everything they do, the rest of the US Army Infantry does. The only advantage they have is that they have priority in slots for schools. But we do have all those schools!!!
Question for you: MARSOC stood up in 2006(right?). Is there a Marine Special Operations school yet? Or are they still training off the Recon school?

@rketer ok, im not saying they cant, but they are officially certified at a longer distance than standard US army infantry out of OSUT. and thats a very big reason. Yes there is more, but id say that this is a major reason alot of people conceive marines to be better. Plus they shoot anything that moves, even rocks.
However I think that any army spec-ops (Rangers, SF, 160th SOAR, etc takes the cake over Marine MARSOC, and Marine task forces.

The Army BCT doesnt have to qual in 500 meters, but we do shoot them for practice- targets that move, while we are out of breathe from sprinting full gear up hill. Its called Firing under stress or stress firing.

@back211 Ranger school is the US Army's premier leadership course. Though it is run by Tradoc, its no joke. The Marines who attend Ranger school aren't ordinary Marines. The USMC doesnt send just any POG or washed up Marine. They send in their best, who deserve or win a chance at Ranger School from competitions. They are usually from the Recon Community.

@back211 lol how can you compare MARSOC to RANGERS... MARSOC is special forces... Rangers are specialized infantry... You could compare regular Recon to Rangers. MARSOC works with SOCOM, Rangers are not special forces by any means..... Now on to army taking the cake.... and even the regular Recon Marines receive more training than Rangers... 3 months boot, 3 months infantry school, 3 months recon training, and one month specialized school (diving, jumping, survival school), or all three

@spaceman8988... Actually for Recon Marines it's, first 3 months boot, then they have a 13 week basic recon marine course, then army airborne school, ranger school and then SERE school. Force recon goes to navy dive school which is a hard school, dive school army and navy are the most dropped out schools in the military. And Rangers are part of JSOC, sooooo you can do the math on that one!

Recon Marines never go through army ranger school... EVER. They also go to SOI like I said which is a three month advanced infantry course before they enter, BRT or MART... also the schools they take after that are optional, as you can pick one school minimum and the others you dont have to go to...

@spaceman8988 Sorry to jump in so late on this, but I do have to defend the Army. Rangers arn't specialized Infantry by any means, but they are apart of JSOC on a regular basis. Everything they do, the rest of the US Army Infantry does. The only advantage they have is that they have priority in slots for schools. But we do have all those schools!!!
Question for you: MARSOC stood up in 2006(right?). Is there a Marine Special Operations school yet? Or are they still training off the Recon school?
