Now some 20.000 Passive Houses all around the world. Can be done everywhere, adapted to the climate, adapted to local tradition. A solution that is affordable, saves a lot of money for heating, healthy (fresh air) and helpful for the enironment. See "passipedia" in the world wide web.
Actually, if you watch the second part of this you will see that the total cost for the build came to about €150k, approximately the same as it would cost for a normal 3-bed house. But even if the costs were higher, when you factor in the money you will save in Electricity, Gas, or other heating bills... it's a bit of a no-brainer.
@brunobrowne I'm Irish and design Passive house - I agree with everything you say but the build costs don't have to be so expensive - you can build a passive house for approx 8 to 15% extra to conventional build (but next year with new regulations convetion will be gone anyway). Don't be disheatened there are ways to build eco and cheaply. Unfortunately this show never portrays that. My sentiments on the hybrid also - nonsense car!
@brunobrowne You cannot compare European building costs to American ones. These passive buildings are not expensive - and thes wont be in America, too. This is an unexpensive solution.
"Designed to minus 6 in ireland".. they might want to rethink that, this winter has been a lot colder.
