  • @bbeinecke1 District Attorneys generally have authority to prosecute crimes that occur within their respective counties. I have this authority with regard to matters such as burglary, robbery, homicide, etc., that happen in Travis County. The Texas Water Code gives the Travis County DA somewhat different authority and responsibility. It provides that certain environmental violations are to be prosecuted in the county where they occur or in Travis County. So, for example, a company that allows…

  • @bbeinecke1 ..heavy metals to spill into the waterways of Brazoria County can be prosecuted in Brazoria County or Travis County. Our full time environmental prosecutor has filed over 50 cases to date. Some of those offenses are alleged to have occurred here in Travis County and others in places like Beaumont, Port Arthur and Ft. Worth. I always discuss these cases with the local District Attorney. Sometimes the local DA wants to participate in the case and sometimes the local DA doesn't want to.
