@rugbymason League was proffesional before Union, introduced interchange before union, Sin bin, video ref, the banana kick, cross kicks for wingers, rush defence, flat backlines, second-man plays, dummy runners. all these tactics were used decades ago in league and union is just recently copying them and you say you learn more from union!?lol Union is only 'popular' because interest arises when national teams play. and people go for their nation. and UNION IS SOFT!! just admit it geez lol

@rugbymason I've played both codes too, and for well respected clubs aswell and honestly I don't know what level of league and union you played but league is much more physically demanding. You can get through one complete offensive set of 6 and one complete defensive set of 6 in one minute. Keeping in mind your role in both aspects also set plays that you only have seconds to prepare when the opportunity arises, plugging gaps, looking for them too, all this in 60 seconds or less. times 80 lol

I played union for 6 months and nearly got kicked off the team for passing the ball. swapped to league and lost 3 stone and that was 7 years ago, now im 16 and have been signed for wigan warriors, union cant spot real tallent

Rugby Union where "the action doesn't stop" that's very delusional my friend. The only time Rugby union is reasonable to watch is one team is clearly superior to the other, then they take a few more chances, otherwise because of its rule set, it's a safety first slow borathon.

The six tackle rule vs the recycle rule is a critical difference. In RL you are guaranteed that possession, which allows you to set up and try exciting plays, and allows players like Benji Marshall, Jared Hayne, Inglis, slater etc etc the canvas to weave their magic. In RU the constant fight for possession, means you are rarely guaranteed it, so it becomes a kickathon or when it is run it is kept in tight so as to have the numbers for the eventuating ruck/maul...lame soft charges result..

In Australia, the only country that has given RL an even run against the power and manipulation of the RU, the people have long spoken. Few watch RU, even under 21's RL can beat Super 14's for ratings, and RL test matches outrate Trinations. Why is this, because of the magic on the RL football field, not the incessant boring contest for the ball. Which then means you need to have players whose skills relate to this contest, fat/big-scrum and tall-lineout useless non footy players.

Why is RU more popular worldwide, well do some research my friend, it's called power,influence, money, manipulation, nothing virtuous you will find. The spread of the game like soccer and many others, was on the back of the British Empire. After the split of the Rugby's along class lines (you know rich & powerful vs working class) RL was banned in the ARMED FORCES, and in PUBLIC (elite) SCHOOLS and UNIVERSITIES, and blacklisted by MONARCHY, inwhich fueled RU's very modest spread.
RL absolutely massively squashes RU in Aus in all aspects, TV, crowds, media coverage, merchandise,internet activity etc etc, to even begin to argue this point is ridiculous. So the people have spoken on which is more entertaining. Quoting one game against the reality of the situation here in Aus shows you as,really, a massive 1 eyed simpleton me thinks. I'm sure Trinations was entertaining for you & the modest amount of people who watched with you...but not for the majority.

@nickojb7 he didn't play to well against England but was awesome againt Scotland. His off loads are something else! Didn't see too much in the way of defensive prowess!! Then again it was Scotland! He has had to adapt his tackling to actual tackling rather than shoulder barging!!

Dunno if you got a reply mate, but he primarily played at second row, but was known to occasionaly creep to the centres due too his clubs lack of outside backs at the time. It's also noteworthy that he was usually best played at impact off the bench, his fitness wasn't a problem it was just that he could cover so many positions and be so good at them at the same time.

@rugbymason League was proffesional before Union, introduced interchange before union, Sin bin, video ref, the banana kick, cross kicks for wingers, rush defence, flat backlines, second-man plays, dummy runners. all these tactics were used decades ago in league and union is just recently copying them and you say you learn more from union!?lol Union is only 'popular' because interest arises when national teams play. and people go for their nation. and UNION IS SOFT!! just admit it geez lol

@rugbymason I've played both codes too, and for well respected clubs aswell and honestly I don't know what level of league and union you played but league is much more physically demanding. You can get through one complete offensive set of 6 and one complete defensive set of 6 in one minute. Keeping in mind your role in both aspects also set plays that you only have seconds to prepare when the opportunity arises, plugging gaps, looking for them too, all this in 60 seconds or less. times 80 lol

I played union for 6 months and nearly got kicked off the team for passing the ball. swapped to league and lost 3 stone and that was 7 years ago, now im 16 and have been signed for wigan warriors, union cant spot real tallent

but still, a good super 14(or 15) game is still more exciting than a good nrl game. . because league is so limited with a stoppage every tackle and only 6 tackles allowed and then a kick on the last, all the tries are predictable.

The six tackle rule vs the recycle rule is a critical difference. In RL you are guaranteed that possession, which allows you to set up and try exciting plays, and allows players like Benji Marshall, Jared Hayne, Inglis, slater etc etc the canvas to weave their magic. In RU the constant fight for possession, means you are rarely guaranteed it, so it becomes a kickathon or when it is run it is kept in tight so as to have the numbers for the eventuating ruck/maul...lame soft charges result..

u say it becomes a kickathon, did u watch this years tri nations? or super 14? teams now know u must run the ball and be expansive to score tries and that comes down to the new law variation at the ruck.

In Australia, the only country that has given RL an even run against the power and manipulation of the RU, the people have long spoken. Few watch RU, even under 21's RL can beat Super 14's for ratings, and RL test matches outrate Trinations. Why is this, because of the magic on the RL football field, not the incessant boring contest for the ball. Which then means you need to have players whose skills relate to this contest, fat/big-scrum and tall-lineout useless non footy players.

Why is RU more popular worldwide, well do some research my friend, it's called power,influence, money, manipulation, nothing virtuous you will find. The spread of the game like soccer and many others, was on the back of the British Empire. After the split of the Rugby's along class lines (you know rich & powerful vs working class) RL was banned in the ARMED FORCES, and in PUBLIC (elite) SCHOOLS and UNIVERSITIES, and blacklisted by MONARCHY, inwhich fueled RU's very modest spread.

I've played representative level at both union and league and I would say they are the same levels of 'Softness' people constantly argue over which is the better sport and it's personal choice why criticise people for liking one over another? You learn skills from both that you can use in the opposite. Also for reference, Union was professional long before League, League players where considered criminals. Dummy Runners, Second hand plays? Also from union, compare videos from 80s

I played U16 Queensland White last year..
I didn't come through the ranks with them but I did play with what I believe to be some superstarts of the future. I did the same for union except I played red ( Also I will add that 7 of the boys played on both teams..) Also for reference im currently in my final year of school weighing up options, No offers as of yet but I can dream ;). By the way dude why take things so seriously? @nickojb7 he didn't play to well against England but was awesome againt Scotland. His off loads are something else! Didn't see too much in the way of defensive prowess!! Then again it was Scotland! He has had to adapt his tackling to actual tackling rather than shoulder barging!!

Dunno if you got a reply mate, but he primarily played at second row, but was known to occasionaly creep to the centres due too his clubs lack of outside backs at the time. It's also noteworthy that he was usually best played at impact off the bench, his fitness wasn't a problem it was just that he could cover so many positions and be so good at them at the same time.
