  • These videos are so inspiring! My daughter (6m) used her first recognizable sign today (eat) and I can hardly contain myself!! I was going to sign up for the class but I feel like we might be doing a pretty good job at home :)

  • How did you teach her how to read, how to spell and sound out the phonics of each letter? Do I have to teach my kid sign language to get a jump start on reading, spelling, etc? Do you think it can be taught with any normal kid? Look forward to hearing from you.

  • @LivieJolie7 I taught her how to read using the ASL alphabet. I started showing her the letters and when she knew them all out of order I started teaching her the sounds of the letters. I would first hold up the letter a and make the sound. When she got a then I'd move on to teaching b. Then I'd go back and forth from a and b then I would add c and so on. It takes a while but it's worth it. She loved playing spelling games using her hands.

  • absolutely adorable!

  • cute

  • i love this my daughter was diagnosed to be hearing inpared she has a grandma who is complete deaf so i started teaching her sign she is now 2 and can sigh a few words any tips on how i can get her to understand and sign more?

  • @tjjb20 For your daughter I would just use sign language with her like you would use English if her grandmother is deaf. With her now at this age you should introduce signs for words/things she is interested in. If you are reading a book show her the signs in that book etc.

  • She Sooooo CUTEEEE !

  • cute babies! i wanna have her! :) just kidding!

  • I could watch this all day. I taught both of my grandbabies ASL, and it helps keep the frustration down, when you can understand what they want before they can speak.

Both started using sign language around 10 months and it just escalated from there. It does not hinder their speaking ability.

You have done a fantastic job with your daughter.

  • Wow! How did you do to show her all these signs???? She's still so young! I'm impress!

  • She is Awesome!! Kids are smarter than alot of people realize..you just have to take the time to talk and listen and you'd be amazed how smart a 3 year old is.

  • When she says NOOOOOO to "change"... that's the cutest thing in a century.

  • Iiiiiiiii'm jealous. I am in hs and the language I decided to take was ASL, but its harder to learn once you get older! both of my sisters sign, too, so my nephew knows quite a bit. its funny, if we ever have extra time in class, all of us are like "can we watch a fireese video pleeeeease?!" to our techer, our class loves her! :)

  • @kimberlyn258 that is so cute! I love that your class asks to watch the videos :)

  • This is so cute, she is such a great teacher! And she's so enthusiastic about it too =)

  • She's adorable!

  • Shes is so cute when did she start to learn?

  • @PinkyBearLover She was 9.5 months when she started signing. I started teaching her when she was 4 months :)

  • she's a clever girl... i loved watching all the vids... i dont have kids but i will definitely teach this.

  • im sorry but why do u teache them if they knows how to talk

  • @aenglot they can learn to sign before they know how to talk. It helps reduce their frustration (and ours as parents) because they can tell you what they want through signs before they can say it. It also helps when they start talking and they aren't clear. Plus, it's a great second language to have.

  • @aenglot they can sign before they can talk so it helps to reduce their frustration until they learn how to talk.

  • She is such a clever little girl! You must be a great mum! It is very cute watching her look at the cards and do her wee signs! Awesome to watch..i had never seen a toddler do this, but have heard a lot about baby sign language!

  • your little girl is so smart. im so surprised she knows all of this stuff. ive been watching lots of your videos. so inspired - big fan :D

  • Your amazing! Im 17y/o & fluent in sign. my mom never taught me at a young age... i had to learn it on my own! My dream is to either be an interpreter or a teacher for deaf education. My 26 year old sister is pregnant and Im going to teach the baby ASL, this is vital in my case because if I ever decide to adopt a deaf child, as cousins they will be able to communicate. Im doing my sr project on deaf ed I could use some help. I know sign & D/hh people, but know absolutely nothing on deaf ed

  • This video is tremendously sweet.

  • Wow, I watched Fireese videos and i've learned a lot. I have a 2 year old son, is it too late to teach him? i really what to learned and teach him sign language. Thanks again, you are an inspiration. God bless you!

  • Hi! I'm really inspired by you, I watch fireese videos. I have a 2year old son, and i really want to teach him sign language, is it too late for my son to learned? Thanks! God bless you and your family.

  • @Greatfumom Thank you! It is never too late to start :-) My daughter is 4 and a half and still loves to sign. The alphabet is a perfect thing to start teaching your son.

  • is sidney your child too? just curious.. btw i admire you being Firesee's mom.. I'm just a 16 year old lady,, and your an inspiration.. ^.^ maybe if i grew up and hav my own bunch of kids,, i will definitely teach them SL too..(y am i thinking about havin babies,, im just 16.) btw.. ur a great mom,, but my mom is great too.. LOL.:)

  • @inlove15mwah Thanks :-) Sidney is my friend's son. I know have a little boy who is almost one. It's nice to hear a 16 year old say that her mom is great! :)

  • This is amazing such a clever girl you have you must be very proud!

My baby is 3 months is this too early to start? I sign when I talk is this the best way?

  • @romesblood Thanks! I started with both my kids when they were 4 months old but you can start anytime! If you go to my channel there is a link to an article I wrote about how to sign with your baby :-)

  • She is so smart! I wish I could do that!

  • shes an adorable and an intelligent baby! i want a daughter like her

  • Your daughter is very smart an so cute. I have watched a lot of your videos an would love to teach my boys. i have been tryin to teach my two sons ( ages 1 & 2) signs but its not working out very well, they don't seem to pay much attention. They get side tracked very easily. how did you manage to get her to pay some attention an pick it up? :o)

  • @LaurasLucky Thank you :-) I found two good times to teach her at that age. One was during meal time when she was sitting in her high chair. She seemed to be more focused then. You can teach them food signs. Another time was when we were reading books or playing with toys. I would show her the signs in the book or the toys she was playing with. The important thing is to be consistent. Every time you say a specific word make the sign. You can also take their hands and show them how to make it.

  • Woow! U have such beautiful, smart children!

    Congratulations (:

-Are u a sigh language professor?

  • @cuteada123 Thank you :-) No, I'm just a teacher with a degree in ASL

  • I just started signing with my 13 month old and he's picking it up so quick! I have to hurry and learn more signs so he has something to learn. How in the world did you teach her to read so early? What was your daily routine like- I want to copy you! :)

  • @considereden I started teaching her the ABCs. I would sign and sing the ABCs. Then I would hold up my hand in the shape of an A and say A, once she knew A I would add in B and go back and forth from A to B and so on until she knew all the letters. I then started doing the same thing with the sounds of the letters. Once she knew all the sounds we would then put them together. I would hold up a C + A + T and she would sound out CAT for ex. Go slowly and wait until they have each step mastered

  • frieese is so cute and such an awesome vocabulary for an 18 month old. i love how well signing work for kids to talk to us. i have done signing with all the kids i work with trough nannying and now teaching older infants in a preschool. sing language is such a wonderful tool to use with young kid.

  • What a clever little baby :)

  • Good work...keep it up. Hi from Greece.

  • Frieese is so adorable. My baby is 8 months old she is going to be 9 months old. But i dont think she wants to learn sign language she crawls away when i try to teach her.

  • @lovelyxxlife You'd be surprised at how much they pick up even if they aren't sitting and watching you. Fireese didn't sign back to me until she was 9.5 months old and then at 11 months her signing exploded. Keep it up and be consistent! :-)

  • she is soo adorable!

  • What a wonderful idea! My baby is almost 9 months old. Is it too late to begin baby sign language?

  • @madmadameminx no it's not too late at all!! It's the perfect time to start :-)

  • soooooooooooo cute adorable!!!!!!!!!

was she the small girl that was 1year old and was explaining the signs????????

  • @bchap09 yes she was :-)

    Thanks!

  • is that other baby your too

  • @MtDewLver no, I was babysitting him for my friend. I now have a little boy who is 6 months old and Fireese is a GREAT big sister :-)

  • This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Wow!

  • thats so cute!

  • This is a good thing to start teaching a child young sign language. My grand daughter is 6 months old and we are already teaching her sign. My daughter, her mother, has progressive hearing loss and is already completely deaf in one ear. We want my grand daughter to learn now so that it will just be a second nature to her.

Any baby can be taught to sign if you work at it.

  • ours, that amazing!

in Brazil, children under 1 year now learn to speak Portuguese fast

my 2 twin materials learned to talk to 11 months

  • Very gifted =)

  • That is absolutely amazing!

Congratulatioins on such a cute, intelligent little girl, and God Bless!! :)

  • Fireese is not only adorable, she's intelligent! Congrats to Mom and Dad (if he's still around) to be able to she Fireese the language signs!

  • She's amazing and I'm glad to see that she remembers the signs to. I watched your first video and thought it was amazing. You have such beautiful children. May God bless you and your family everyday!

  • that is amazing, not only does she know sign language but she is teaching it to another baby, you must be very proud ofur daughter

  • i like that the older one is teaching the younger one =]

  • can she read in this video? or she saying the words by the pictures? im impressed!!

    This is wonderfull!!

  • thanks :-)

She just knows the words because of the pictures. She didn't start reading until she was 2.5 years.

  • wow. 2.5 years old and knows how to read? amazing...I wasn't interested in school or in learning for that matter, so I started to learn how to read at 4. But I thought we were asked to memorize the reading book, my tmom didn't realize it until 5. Great teacher :D

  • You are a good Mom! How wonderful to realize these little beings are smarter than most people think! This is such a good way to help them communicate as soon as is possible. Thank you for your work!

  • Je suis vraiment impressionée ! Bravo !

  • Holy crap your daughter is smart!!

  • I wish I had the time to continue signing with my daughter. Once she started talking at about 2 1/2 years old, I stopped the signing. I also had to go back to work full time, and school full time, and I'm a single mom. But it was great when my daughter was a baby, she could tell me what she wanted! It was great! I'm glad you have posted these videos, if I ever have more kids, I'm going to keep up with the signing well in to the toddler years.

  • sooo beautiful smart young lady:) l hope she will be always like that.u must be proud of urself and ur little lady

  • OOH! Your Daughter is Adorable!!

    Shes soo Smart too!! :)

  • How did you come up with her name? Like where is the origin from, it's really cute and unique but I've never heard it before. I wouldn't be surprised if she taught ASL when she's older, she's very good at it - she knows more than I do! Haha.

  • Thanks :-)

Her name is made up. It's a combo of Fire and Ice, a balance of two things. We wanted to spell it phonetically so people could pronounce it. We also wanted to put Reese in there so she could go by that if she wanted to.

  • She is so lovely little girl. Learning so hard.

  • She is so amazaing little girl.

  • is this proper sign language? or have you made up your own hand signs for different things. if you know what i mean?

  • This is ASL, proper sign language.

  • Shes amazing!! she can even correct her mum and shes only 18 mounths most babies/ toddlers just go with what ever their parents say but for her to correct her mother like that is amazing! beautiful little girls there :)

  • I'm actually learning sign language from her! She's soo cute!

  • I know! I wouldn't totally buy a video called "Learning Sign with Sidney." :)

  • Oh, how cute! She's a little darling!

  • kool she looks like my littel second cousin 2years old

  • i love how she says apple and cracker she is the cutest little girl god bless her

  • Beautiful little girl. God bless her. She is learning well. Great job mom.

  • I'm actually learning some sign language from your daughter! She is an excellent teacher! :)

  • love it!

me and my baby sign and it is adorable!

  • shez sooo smart.. and adoreble too.. am ipressed with her work.. and more impressed that u wud take the tym to teach her.. it dznt luk lyk ts taken yew for ever tho.. shez verry smart.. if i had kids one day.. i wud suure use ur refrence to teach them.. ts gdd cz they can communicate with us in emergencies.. gr888 vid.. keep it up XOXO

  • i think she's avarage, ur baby can do this too!

  • that was really good! she's very smart and pretty too. it's great she's learning signing

  • I'm so impressed! I wish more parents had the time and took the time to spend this kind of time with their children and taught them such valuable things.

  • She's great! We taught our Down's son ASL from the day we brought him home and he could communicate effectively long before he could speak. Coupled that with teaching him to read and at age 4 he could read at a typical second grade level. It's amazing what children can do....if we take the time to teach them.

  • that is so cool and they are both adorable

  • This is so wonderful and adorable I wish I could learn sign language

  • this is amazing, i dont have a baby ..yet, but will be trying to elarn the signing for when i do

  • Hi :) I am very keen to learn sign language and baby sign. A little down syndrome girl began at my preschool so I learnt a lot of american sign as she knows over 122 signs! However American Sign is different to NZ sign isn't it? What do you recommend as the best way to learn for adults?

  • Hi :-)

Yes, NZ sign language is different from ASL. The best way to learn is to try to find a course that you could take. Because there are probably fewer online resources for NZ sign language your best bet would be to find an in-person course. Check your local hearing society.

  • How is she doing now? =)

  • She is good, she is helping me make a signing dictionary that I will be posting here soon. She's getting big but still loves signing! She is also reading at a 1st grade level at three and a half.

  • omg! wow! thats amazing! shes a very smart lil girl..good job!=]]

  • she's so adorable and smart, i ove her already! upload more okay

  • Oh, that is just so incredibly adorable! :D You have a beautiful daughter, and it's already clear she's very smart. :) I've sat for parents who've taught their children sign language, and it makes it so much easier to communicate with them. When I have kids, I'll have to learn sign language myself so I can teach them, haha.

  • this is very very cute! Sidney seems more interested in the cards she's dropped all over lol! but this is soo cool!!!!!

  • yes.. this is normal for this age, right? because the play for toddlers is called Parallel Play.. they play beside another baby, not "with" the baby.. =)

  • Is Sidney your child too? If so, why did you decide not to teach him sign language too?

  • No, he's a friend's son, we were just babysitting him and Fireese starting teaching him sign language (totally unprompted by us). It was so cute we grabbed the camera and started taping. I would teach all my children sign language!

    :-)

  • Absolutely adorable. And what a unique and beautiful name, Fireese. :) What does it mean?

  • Thank you :-)

We made up the name... as a teacher it was hard to find a name I didn't associate with a student (good or bad) :-)

It is a combination of fire and ice, a balance of two things like yin and yang. We spelled it the way we did so she could use Reese if she wanted something more common.

  • I've always wanted to do make up my children's names, and hope to when I have children. Hopefully what my husband and I come up with is as successful and pretty as yours! :)

  • WONDERFUL NAME!

    And very well thought through!

  • so cute. and he might pick up more than it appears because kids that age often do, especially learning from another child

  • That is so great! My daughter, who is 17 months, does this same thing every time we go to the library for the baby story time. She steps up to the librarian reading the book, signs whatever is in the book, and then proceeds to try to teach the other babies in the class. It is the most incredible thing to witness.. I share the wonder and pride you must feel for your little girl.

Great job and keep it up!!

  • She is soooooo smart and cute too ;)

  • OMG!! CUTE!!! =D

  • Oh my GOODNESS! I don't even know how to do sign language and this little baby is teaching it! Wow. SO CUTE!!!

  • wow when I had kids.. I hope I could do the same... she is so smart ^_^...

she is sooo cute when she does the "help"sign ^_^

  • omg that is sooooooooo cuteeee!!!!!!! lol

  • this has to be the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I wish that I had known more about this when I was teaching my 11 and 5 year old as babies. My 11 year old still has problems reading, and I think that if I had known about this when she was a baby, maybe she would be a better reader.

  • You can still try to use the ASL alphabet with your daughter to help her learn words and sounds for improving her reading skills! I used it with my grade 8 students who were having trouble in those areas and the improvement was amazing!

  • although the baby boy wasnt concentrating at all.. but she's still showing the baby boy with those cards.. so adorable..

  • cuuutteee

  • she is so smart!

  • Fireese and your teaching sign to her should be an inspiration to all parents. it's amazing to see a child so young signing.I learned to sign at college and both my children can sign.

  • im expecting a boy and im six months i cant wait to teach my son, just to let people know a good place to buy your sinecards is at borders.

  • shes amazing and cute

  • ur child is phenominal omggg god bless her litl soul uv inspired me to teach my child to sign :) thnks

  • She is so adorable and smart! I need to teach my futre baby this.

  • People looked at us like we were crazy when we started teaching signs to our son (now 13). Believe it or not he signed his his first sentence at 6 months old! He heard the bathtub running and signed "Sissy bath." His sister was upstairs starting a bath. Very cool!

He taught himself to read at age 3 and I think learning sign early stimulated his learning to read so young.

  • she's so cute!!!!

  • I have recently become interested in baby signing, so much so that my Mum kindly bought me some signing books for chldren and babies. Some of the signs are different to yours though... such as the mother and father signs. I am wondering if this is right as I want to learn the RIGHT WAY not the wrong way. Am I doing right by reading these?

  • I see you are from the UK, correct? If so, you'd be using BSL which is totally different from ASL the language you see me using with Fireese. I'd stick to using the BSL signs. Feel free to email me anytime with questions!

  • Wow! My sister sent me a few videos of you and your daughter and I am so amazed! I have a 16 month old and while he knows some words and he does know how to sign 'eat'...this is INCREADIBLE! How young did you start teaching her? You must be very proud! Have you been teaching any other children? Wow, she is so adorable and smart! Happy Holidays!

  • Thank you :-)

She was 4 months when I started signing to her but she didn't sign back until 9.5 months. She understood the sign much younger. She still loves it!

  • I love flashcards. :) Yay to baby teachers!

  • where could you get sign cards?

i think those are so cool!

  • Depending on how motivated you are you can make your own (I have a video that shows you how will all the files you need) or you can go to most book stores, they should have some signing cards. I like the ones from moco baby.

  • sydny is like, yummy chew on stuff

  • SHE IS PRECIOUSSSS!

  • Aww your babygirl is such a darling! Very smart little teacher she is!

  • wow

  • who is sydney

  • He's my friend's son. We were babysitting him when Fireese pulled out the flashcards :-)

  • Very nice

  • your baby so smart I have never seen a baby the smart !!! good job keep teaching your baby more and so,so cute!!!

  • I am amazed at this. WOW you have done a great job as her #1 Teacher= Mom

  • her voice is so cute

  • OH so cute. You can practically see her brain ticking over as she looks at each card :D

  • shes sooooooo cute !

  • Your daughter is adorable and super smart!

I would of never thought of teaching a baby to sign language! Its just so amazing how young she is, and how well she can sign. You and your baby are an inspiration! I know now that when i start a family i would love to sign with my kids!

Thank you so much & God Bless you and your beautiful daughter!

  • i luv video ! hugs

  • Great video my friend, and great job!!!Will

  • Aw she is cute.

  • omgsh she is so smart!

  • she is soooooooooooooooooooo adorable u did a very good job teachin her and it looks like she's doing a very good job on teaching sydney NICE WORK

  • BABIES REPLACING TEACHERS!?!?! WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO! lol jk. She is soo adorable but its so sad it seems like yesterday i was just watching her as a baby on youtube :) shes amazing. I hope she becomes a kid genius when older and gets a good scholarship.

  • it makes me cry she grew so fast

  • Absolutely AMAZING! My sister is trying to teach her daughter to sign, shes having some problems but is doing quite well. Just amazing! Good job!

  • so cute....wonderful job.

    God bless you.

  • wow your baby is amazing!...btw how did you come up with the name Fireese? I luv it

  • Thanks! I am a teacher and it is hard to pick a name that you don't associate with another child (either good or bad). We threw around a bunch of ideas and really liked the ying and yang of 'fire and ice' together. A balance of two things. When we put the two together we liked it but didn't like the spelling. We also wanted to give her a more common short form which is why we spelled it with Reese in it (like Reese Whitherspoon). So if she wants a more common name she can use Reese :-)

  • i love 51-56...cute :)

  • funny and cute keep it up and they'll be interpreters!:))

  • your baby is amazing! how did you come up with the name Fireese??.. Ilove it

  • when i saw ur video 3 months ago i started teaching my leah the abc ..

u can see the video in my page..i thought it was gonna be a great idea she even does the i love sign lol..is so cute! she is 4 months now and she does the abc all the time!!

thanks for posting videos that actually are worth watching!!

  • im amazed by ur daughters speech its so clear, my son is 18mths now and his speech is good but your wee girls is gr8. do u think by teaching her 2sign helped her speech also?

  • Thanks :-)

I do think it helped in some ways. I did a lot of research on signing with children and all of the research shows that it can help increase language development. I even used it with my grade 8 students to help their spelling skills.

    Laura

  • she nodded when her mom says u r a gud teacher.. so cute..

  • I'm loving your videos, thank you so much for sharing! My 2 year old didn't say much and I think it was because a) big brother spoke lovingly for him... and often lol and b) he would get frustrated when I wasn't understand him. So, I began signing to him and the progress is amazing! He trusts that his needs will be met thereby reducing his frustration and now is stringing together multiple words and this all started within weeks of signing to him. Your videos are teaching me many more signs!

  • Thanks for sharing! That is amazing :-)

    Laura

  • Veryy Good Love It.. Thumbs Up....

  • That is so cute. I love how she teaching....how she gives Sidney the notecard for "baby."

  • I bet that other baby feels stupid.

  • This is so adorable ^.^ I tried to teach my baby brother to sign when he was younger. He eventually picked up 'mother' but that was it. I only got to visit him every other weekend and now I barely get to see him once a month, otherwise I'd continue. But I love seeing it in action, children are open to so many things with their mind.

  • Hi :) Fireese is so adorable!

I was wondering, if you put two signing babies together and don't prompt them, will they sign to each other spontaneously?

  • Thanks!

I've heard from daycare workers that this does happen :-) I've only see my daughter when she picked up the cards to teach Sidney the signs. I didn't prompt her to do this, she just picked them up and started signing with him, that's why I grabbed the camera.

  • such a sweety!

  • wow! your baby is so smart!

    what books do u use?

  • I like Dr. Garcia's Sign with your Baby book.
