  • It was in April, 1979 that it peaked as a single at #3; it was originally published as part of an album back in 1974.

  • On this date in 1979 {Jan. 27th} "Music Box Dancer" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; it would peaked at No. 3 and spent a total of 20 weeks in the Top 100!!!

  • What a shame that music like this cannot get into the top 40 charts any more. This instrumental hit the charts when I was in sixth grade and I remember it so well. Now all you have is the filth of the rap/hip hop music making the charts. How sad.

  • this song should be taught to all beginning piano players.

  • awesome!!!

  • Wow!

  • One of my fav songs of all time. Brilliant.

  • Omg growing up my mom would play that music piece all the time.It brings back memories. She passed away 2 yrs ago.Rest in piece mom love Amanda.

  • @JBFANFOREVER2012 omg i meant peace.

  • @JBFANFOREVER2012 I see people all the time bringing up how this song reminds them of times with deceased relatives, especially parents. My Dad passed in 2003, and I think that I develop thoughts of driving through the countryside, in peaceful settings with him, and if done as a video, this song would be great in the background. This is one of 5 songs that can make me cry on the spot.

  • nice video :

  • @Dananeeri I appreciate your comment ...

  • @Dananeeri I had sheet music to this way back then in school I played the flute. I loved playing this song over and over

  • One of the most beautiful instrumental music I've ever heard.

  • This is absolutely amazing. I love it!

  • Hi, I made of a video of it 'Frank Mills- - The Traveler', and uploaded it. It did upload but I can't find it. (first time doing this)

  • I googled old Frank Mills music and found it. It's called 'The Traveller'. Another one I liked on an old cassette tape (mid 1990's) I had is "Rose Island Days'. I don't have the tape anymore but had downloaded onto a computer file, which I still have. I'll have to figure out how to upload 'The Traveller' with Pics.

  • I have this song on my iPod

  • @maddy2410113 Thanks for your comment

  • Sorry, going off topic a bit. I have a favorite of mine from the mid 90's that I haven't found on here. Frank has a female singer with backup. It starts > On my love the days are shorter now. I'm a traveller and I must be on my way. Sail awayay, sail away. Anyone have this one??

  • @chuck8917 At least you know who sings it would be easier to know which song is the one looking ....Or if you could spend a little more than the lyrics of the song???

  • @chuck8917 Enya ?

  • @TheKoga1955 I never did know her name. I had the song on a cassette tape I bought at that time, and which I now have on my computer. I'm gonna work on trying to make a video for here in the next few days. Thanks for the interest!!

  • One of my alltime favourites! Beauty in sound:)

  • Remember hearing this blasting out of the Volkswagen Beetle my neighbor Jason's dad drove. Man, his dad was a DICK in every sense but possessing one and his mom always seemed like she was stoned. Being the late 70s/early 80s, 'tis possible. He was cool but his parents, yeah . . . assholes . . . completely.

  • Such a great song (:

  • HEY, THIS IS THE SONG THAT DEWEY PLAYS IN THE EISODE: REESE JOINS THE ARMY! I FOUND IT!!

  • I remember my grandmother having this song on a record, that I absolutely loved listening to-way back when. I remembered the name of the song, but never knew who the song was by. Doing a YouTube search brough me to this link. THANK YOU to the one who posted this, I LOVE IT!!!

  • Amazing what music can do !

  • Yes that is what I was looking for that the Ice Cream Trucks keep playing. Thank you!

  • 30 somethng years later and it still makes me feel light. It's like a little fantasy in 180 seconds.

  • This was one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano as a girl, and I have always loved it.

  • If I am wrong, I'll be thrilled! I looked for Frank Mills obit online, but could'nt find anything! If you're still with us, Frank, hurray! My apologies! I definitely heard SOMETHING on television. I wonder if it could have been Frank WILLS, who reported the Watergate burglary?

  • @sixtiesrockboy Frank Mills is still around and performing. He turned 69 on June 27, and last year he performed in several Canadian Christmas shows.

  • @immunocop Thanks, Immunocop! It's nice to know that at least SOME of the people from my past are still with us. Every year, I lose more of them, and one day, THEY will lose ME! Such is life and death. Some day, everyone that knew and remembered us will be gone also. Then, unless we're famous, only a gravestone will tell people that we ever lived!

  • We lost Frank Mills about 15 or 20 years ago. Early this year, I lost MY Music Box Dancer in her sleep. In my mind, I picture a celestial piano being played by Frank. My own angel is bedecked in gossamer wings, and listening intently, as Frank plays Music Box Dancer in her honor. Two angels, one a musical genius, and one a beautiful princess! Each gave joy and love to many. RIP, dear ones!

  • I was always told the ice cream truck played the music when it had run out of ice cream...

  • @54MURAI I think your parents made it up to not buy you some.

  • What an awesome, catchy tune.

  • Ice Cream Truck music!

  • gen·u·ine

That's all I have to say.

  • Is very pretty.

  • i prefer it over "turkey in the straw" as far as ice cream trucks go.

  • This song was a huge hit in the eighties on the rock and roll charts no less.

  • Ohh that's right, it's a common ice cream truck song LOL. I always used to think the blasted tune was so annoying as the truck would play it again and again and again, but in moderation it's a very nice song :)

  • This song caught my attention in the first ep. of Winter Sonata(Korean drama). I don't recall having heard it before but I knew the tune, I'd love to be able to play this on the piano someday although I don't play at all lol.

  • I was in 3rd grade when this was on FM radio; I had just started taking piano lessons, and I had an "easy" version of this classic. So I learned it and decided to show off at school one day ... and another girl came right behind me with this, the original Frank Mills version, which she had picked out flawlessly by ear. (And she was only a 1st grader!) ... That was my first brush with the critics

  • やっと見つけた保留音。

  • the ice cream man on cape cod plays this. everyday.

  • @Merely That's funny... I live in Bourne and I just heard this song today from the ice cream man. It's been a long time since I heard this song so I had to go on hear it again.

  • @CapeCodGirl77 funnier STILL is i watched "kill bill" (vol.1) last night and guess what? ice cream man plays this song.

  • Great piano melody - remember learning to play this as a kid :)

  • This song brings back many fond memories of my childhood!!

  • @chelseane2007 Me too :)

  • DL, your story literally brought tears to my eyes.

Elsa, I too have been searching for this music. I've always known the name as I loved it so much as a child. I think I may have even had it on a music box. :)

    Thank you for uploading.

  • I actually have this music box! It has a little horse that goes up and down on a mini platform that you see at carnivals. It's all white with pink and blue flowers on its saddle with yellow ribbons and right behind it stands a little mirror. My mother got it for me when I was just a little girl. I'm glad to know that I found out what the song is called :D Thanks for putting it up!

  • One of my mom's favorite songs. She passed away last March.Everytime I hear it,I think of her.Still miss her so much.I'm 45 and it's still not easy.

  • I thank my MOM for introducing this song when I was a young child

It was a FAVOURITE of hers and QUICKLY became a FAVOURITE of mine

    I LOVE the PIANO

  • had to look this song up.....in Fargo ND the ice cream man (the dude in the little truck) cruises neighborhoods ......always tuned.....always playing this song.....have to wonder about the psychological damage that may be occurring to the young drivers.....holy cocoa puffs.

  • This song always takes me back. There is something about it that just makes you feel good inside.

  • At 2:46, the poor dog having to wear a tutu :P. But great song!

  • As a child, I dreamed of being a ballerina. I saw this in a ballet and it moved me. It is my favorite music box tune. I have three, all Music Box Dancers!

  • SHUT UP!

  • man. that tune would bring a tear to a glass eye...its pure magic.

  • @tomahawkbungle Couldn't agree more! I'm 38, and male, and this is one of five songs in the world that can tear me up.

  • "All these weirdos, and me getting a little better every day right in the midst of them. I had never known, never even imagined for a heartbeat, that there might be a place for people like us."

    — Denis Johnson

  • This was one of my grandma's favourite songs. She died here at home Tuesday night, June 28, 2011. Thank you for your posting, now we can play it for her at her funeral. Your story is wonderful and so strangs how it relates to mine. Blessings to you.

  • Just beautiful.

  • Meine Omili hat dieses Lied immer wieder auf Platte gespielt. Ach was war das für eine schöne unbeschwerte Zeit.... Da fühlt man sich so geborgen (bin BJ 1973).

  • I love this song. It was hitting the Top 40 charts when I was 8 years old.

  • My grandpa used to tell all his kids and grandkids if they could play this song he'd buy them a piano. I love this song!

  • this used to be my favorite song...

It was on a CD which is forever lost within the depths of my mom's car. My friend Mina and I never knew the name of Music Box Dancer, and we loved it so much, so I'd always ask my mom to "play the piano song again." :') Oh, sweet memories...

Mina now lives in a different state. I haven't seen her in so long...

  • My son (when he was a small child) and I would dance to this all the time, every time I hear it the wonderful memory comes back to me. He is now 43.

  • gosh this song is so happy for many of you.... on the other hand this song signifies school bells to me.... haiz..............

  • DL you are an inspiration. Keep smiling :)

  • Thanks for uploading this. It was my favorite song from childhood and it just represents eveything good about being a child to me. I used to dance to it with my sisters. I haven't seen my sisters in years and this made me cry.

  • Thanks for uploading this. It was my favorite song from childhood and it just represents eveything good about being a child to me. I used to dance to it with my sisters. I haven't seen my sisters in years and this made me cry.

  • nice music

  • This makes me so happy (:

  • my mom thinks this is sooo pretty. me does too. :)))) *giggle*

  • I LOVE this tune. My sweet grandma used to play this for me when I was a baby and small child. She played it so well and put her own spunky personality into playing it. Unfortunately she's 90 years old now and can't play. She hasn't been able to play in 10 years and then over a year ago she had a stroke and it affected her musical memory. So sad. I'll always think of her whenever I hear this. :) Lots of good memories.

  • @ACWillis79 I think about my late father when I hear this song. When your grandmother eventually passes on, how about this at her funeral? If somebody can peacefully pass on, this may be a soothing song.

  • There's an ice truck outside. Playing this song. :D

  • @ReadingWeirdo I've been hearing it from the Ice cream truck too and I decided to ask my husband and he knew the title:) I'm glad I asked.

  • My best friend use to tourture me with this song.. Now that I lost him this and a few other songs reminds me of his lessons

  • I WANT ICE CREAM!!!

  • @Madfoot713 me tooooo!!!!

  • esa rola me hacia llorar me iagino a homero sipson comiendo una rosquilla jejeje que tonto

  • How many girls of the late 70's and early 80's wanted to become ballerinas after hearing this song? I know I did, but never got the opportunity.

  • I have been looking for this for 25 years, I had it on one of my tapes from childhood but never knew the name. Today I found it. Can anyone believe how happy i am?

  • @ElseSand Same with me! I'm 38 in 2011, first heard this when I was 5, and it wasn't until I was 34 when somebody was able to match the NAME with the TUNE! Now, if I die in 10 years, I'm going to request this as my funeral song.

  • @abysmalatrocious I should hope that you don`t die in 10 years! But I think it would be a nice song to havw at the service

  • @ElseSand Yes, I can. I went thru' the same thing almost 20 years ago when I wanted the music box to put in a bear I was making, but couldn't find it...ya gotta have a name to look for a song. LOL!

  • @ElseSand I know EXACTLY how you feel! I'm 38, never could match the name with the tune (first heard it at 5 years old). By chance, I was able to get somebody in 2007 to match the name with the tune. I've been all over MBD Youtubes since, with a heavy heart.

  • @ElseSand I know exactly what u mean. Randomly heard it in the 3rd or 2nd grade in the mid '80s on the radio, never forgot about it and tried desperately for hours on several occasions to track it down on the net with no luck. In summer 2008 I heard it on the radio in Port Elgin and my friend managed to hear Frank Mills name and the title after and I felt like I had put together a 20 year-old puzzle =)

  • @davehaze712 I know I tried all sorts of combinations on the net to find it :-) In the end it was on a Compilation CD that had a title like "Greatest Piano Themes" or something.

  • @ElseSand I can! I'm 38 and have wondered about the name of this song since I was 10, and it was in 2007 when I was 34, that I was able to find it played somewhere else on Youtube, give it to somebody, and he was able to tell me what the name of the song is. He said that it's his mother's favorite song.

  • @ElseSand Me too..closer to 30 years

  • @ElseSand It is one of the pretties pieces of music indeed

  • I just heard this on the radio in the Philippines while driving to work this morning. First time in over 20 years. What an amazing musical score. Wish I had three hands to give this 3 thumbs up!

  • This song reminds me of younger days, when I still had my beautiful Mother with me! Love you Mom, and one day soon I will join you in Heaven, where there are no "good-byes"!

  • I love musics in piano

  • I think this is one of the best songs EVER. It's actually one of the best solos to learn how to play...and trust me; it wouldn't torture me to play this all day long...
