Apart from anything else such as the historical context of the Cold War in the 1980s, Bomb makes sense in the song because it is referring to extreme shyness and embarrassment only being overcome by imminent nuclear destruction. It is a variant of 'what would you do if you only had three minutes to live'. Throw caution to the wind I hope!

That was certainly something I used to say quite often in the seventies and eighties when I met people who would constantly say that, for example, men would never change. I always found it odd that they would say this to me, and in search of agreement, since I AM a man (mostly).
