  • @Zfagster what the hell?

  • Spending warm summer days indoors

    Writing frightening verse

To a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg

It's lyrics like these that just keep me coming back!

  • This track never fails to make me smile...no matter how shitty my day is...I get some weird looks when I have it on the i-pod walking down the street geiining like a loon:)

  • 'If there's something you'd like to try, if there's something you'd like to try, ask me i wont say no how could i?'

    - Erm well Morrissey erm ....... i wouldn't mind trying veal?

  • @TheScoreygoalgoal ahahahahaha

  • this song never fails to put a smile on my face

  • One of the best political songs disguised as a love song ever written.

  • pose moi la question

  • "If it's not love, then it's the bong that will bring us together."

  • ADORABILE!!!!!

  • ASK ASK ASK ASKKKK !!!!! (8)

  • 1:30 - 1:40 descends into a melancholy mood that reminds you of the days when you believed in Love and were not afraid to experience it.

  • So, if there is something you'd like to try, Danilo, ask me I won't say no, how could I? </3

  • sSHY IS IT NICE SOOOOOO PIPIS SMITH PATRA GRECE MY FIVORITE BAND

  • thegoodteacher(dot)com

  • ASTHMA I WON'T SAY NO, HOW COULD I

  • wow i'm shy but I put on a confident front. Because of this song i'm going to put my insecurities aside and ask a girl out tomorrow.

  • Esta canción le sube el ánimo a cualquiera!

    morrisey eres grande :DDD

  • is wonderful. I love all of them. Brings me great satisfaction

  • I think its cool they got Annie Lennox to pose for that picture.

  • Lovely pic of Yootha Joyce from George n Mildred :)

  • Nature is is a Language. can't you read?

    love that quote <3 1:41

  • makes me cry for some reason.

  • Who says the smiths music is miserable and depressing??!! Listen to the joy in this song:)

  • @thetwanger84 Well if you listen to the lyrics very closely and especially if you can relate, then this song can be depressing. :X Well, melancholy, at least.

  • Shit, I can't find one song of the smiths that it's not good...

(and I thought it was the bond)

  • ITS BOMB. NOW STOP YOUR FUSSING.

  • @BAMchelsea WORDS TO LIVE BY !!!

  • Bons Tempos...Velhos Tempos...

    Saudades!!!!!

  • woooow i thought it was the bond... :/

  • Rather ironically, it seems to be the bomb that's keeping this page apart...

  • It's the BONG

Morrissey couldn't keep his hands off the kush.

  • Marrrrrrrrr

  • for some reason, I find that little break in the song at 1:30-1:40 absolutely amazing

  • Uplifting song

  • @David me too

  • it's le bon... simon le bon.

  • I always thought it was "bond" until I learned the lyrics in full.

  • this is from louder than bombs

  • this song should be enough to end all war and forever bring world peace (if only everyone knew about it)

  • anybody who puts yootha joyce and charles hawtrey on an album cover as well as the lyric'' writing frightening verse to a buck toothed girl in luxembourg'' gets my vote every time. genius.

  • Apart from anything else such as the historical context of the Cold War in the 1980s, Bomb makes sense in the song because it is referring to extreme shyness and embarrassment only being overcome by imminent nuclear destruction. It is a variant of 'what would you do if you only had three minutes to live'. Throw caution to the wind I hope!

  • Search:

'A Smiths Tribute Band- Ask Live '

For our live version of this song. Thank you

  • LMAO :-P ;) xx

  • Morrissey true star...I recall this being on top of the pops and the words just cut right into me..

  • "Shyness is nice, and shyness can stop you, from doing all the things in life you'd like to" - I'm so shy and it stops me from doing so many things.

  • @rcurly11 I'm shy to! It stops me from doing so much I wish I could do!

  • @rcurly11 it sure didnt stop you from posting this comment

  • Comment removed

  • @rcurly11 Think with me. You need to enjoy life, the things you do now ain't gonna affect on the important things of your future, like your job or who you'll marry with, those are important things, now, it's just a "training" and it's a very, VERY superficial time. I used to be shy, now i do whatever i want. Do it too, you like someone? go there and tell the person! This moment will never, ever come back, and i bet you don't want to have regrets when you remember of it in the future. :)

  • @rcurly11 Likewise =/

  • @rcurly11 same, I try not to be but it's not that simple, you can't just say that you won't be as shy, it doesn't work like that :(

  • @rcurly11 i was that way all my life. you miss out on a lot. there are things you can do to change, ask me if you want to know.

  • @rcurly11 me too dude...

  • @rcurly11 too shy kajagoogoo

  • @goawayandmakemyday Well, Morrissey's lyrics are often cryptic, so no one (except Morrissey himself) can be sure of their meaning. He's always liked to let people find the meaning by themselves, I guess.

  • @R50605 It is bomb, the implication is that if people cant love each other then the ultimate consequence of that is conflict, in the eighties it was assumed this would be world conflagration.

  • it says on the fucking screen its bomb

  • It's "bomb".

And it stands for "sexual attraction"

"If it's not love then it's the bomb (sexual attraction) that will bring us together"

    Great song, btw.

  • @R50605 It could, but it could also be about human nature. "If it's not love, it's the bomb that will bring us together", this could be talking about the nuclear crisis of the 80s; if it's not love, humans will love each other at end, just before their deaths.

  • @goawayandmakemyday The bomb will "bring us" together in death

  • yootha joyce <3

  • mmm! this would be a great song for Fallout

  • @jaredong all fallout songs are from the 50s. it wouldn't fit the timeline.

  • huevon huevon huevon huevon jajajajajajaj

  • This song is very inspiring, I think the most important thing about is it is the message.

  • another amazing track from morrissey.i adore him.....ask me,ask me,ask me

  • Ugh, a Cure video in the recommendations...

  • the best song ever. am i right or am i wrong? it's got it all

  • It's BOMB.

Read the bottom line in the picture.

  • MARR....UM DOS FILHOS DE KEITH RICHARDS.

  • Joke 1.Que não é mais engraçado

    2. Bem, eu pergunto

    3. How Soon Is Now?

    4. Você tem tudo agora

  • The Smiths, the only band/artist that explain me. It feels like they are me.

  • @CoQ10z it's the BONG that brings us together, the Smiths used to blaze it up hard

  • killer guitar riff. as usual by the best.

  • @Pyr0love fucks sake, THE BOMB. ARE YOU DEAF

  • @CoQ10z I think they were saying 'bong' as a joke... since bongs do tend to bring folks together haha

  • @CoQ10z sorry, but it just makes more sense as bum...

  • It's bond.

  • @9499295 Bong.

  • the bomb that will bring us together

  • how could I

  • So was ask only mixed by someone else or was it also written by somebody else other than our dynamic duo.

  • @Pyr0love

    ROFLMAO

  • lol xD

  • "coyness is nice and coyness can stop you from saying all the things in life you'd like too"

  • You bollocks it dosen't say Bong.

  • @TheLovelove1 I can't believe people think it's the "bong" -___________-

  • I love how it's written "THE drums" and "THE bass guitar" on the cover of the single :)

  • great song shame they (not Johnny Marr) messed around too much with the mid 8 in the mix tho

  • Thanks RR. You made me listen to The Smiths once again on Youtube!

  • la-la-la-la-la-la-laaahh-dummmm......la-la-la-la-la-la-laaahh-dummmm......la-la-la-la-la-la-laaahh-dummmm......la-la-la-la-la-la-laaahh-dummmm......

  • "bomb" is "the carnal love"

  • ohhhhhhhhhh yes

  • As someone who grew up in the UK in the 80s, I can tell you that "The Bomb" was understood to mean nuclear war. I don't know what @Timmybear is smoking.

  • "Take me out tonight take me any where i dont care, driving in your car i never want to go home and if a double decker bus crashes into us to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die..." -The Smiths, this is real music

  • 80's YEAH!

  • aw man that guitar (L)

  • to be honest 'the bomb' makes more sense since it was the eighties and the threat of a nuclear attack was on everyone's minds. as much as everyone would like it to the 'bong' just isn't as interesting, relevant, or witty.

  • sick

  • I still love it.My mom listened to this when she was an teenager. Now its me.

  • Well.....I guess it's handy to bring together a whole bunch of people just so you can just bomb 'em up in one go instead of wasting maney and precious time chasing down each person and setting up bombs in their cars, houses, etc.

  • @jrmetmoi - I believe the intent of the line about 'if it's not love, then it's the bomb that will bring us together' is that if we don't learn to get along, destruction is the only alternative. That was certainly something I used to say quite often in the seventies and eighties when I met people who would constantly say that, for example, men would never change. I always found it odd that they would say this to me, and in search of agreement, since I AM a man (mostly).

  • ask me,the bomb that wil people bring together?a shame..

  • ask me

  • show de bola essa bons tempos ke ñ voltam mais...

  • in the video to this one of the chaps has a bomb in his hands the bomb meaning he drops the bomb and even though he cant give his love to her this makes them closer , its up to the listener to decide what the bomb is!

  • im pretty sure he says bond not bomb...

  • I will play this song to my girlfriend tonight in the hopes that she will give up the backdoor.

  • my favoraite smiths song...today

  • Just a darn right FUN song. What a joy the Smiths are!

  • gotta love those chiming riffs compliments of Johnny Marr!

  • amaaaaazing !

  • could listen to the first 7 seconds all day

  • I'am gonna "ask" her thanks for the advice Morrissey!

  • MORGASM!

  • Eargasm.

  • The 12-inch version of this was the first Smiths record I ever bought. I was visiting my auntie in St John's, Newfoundland, and I visited the best local record store. No regrets. Absolutely no regrets.

  • oh gosh beautiful song that i can relate to!! "shyness can stop u from doing all the things you'd like to. so if there's something you'd like to try, ask me, i wont say no, how could i?" ---> i wish i had one such person!!

  • I love the bass line in this one, sounds like you should skip along to it lol.

  • Hilarious !!! 420 all....Cheers

  • @CoQ10z That Lady is the one and only Legend Yootha Joyce AKA Mildred Roper .. *Bows to YJ*

  • it,s the bomb...we were still living under the threat of nuclear war...actually one of wittiest songs ever

  • 7 people missed the like button.

  • Oh man, I remember buying this and playing it for my then girlfriend. She loved it. Wow the magic of music right there!

  • Actually it's bond and bomb, they're both used! I looked it up years ago after me and my friend had the same arguement.

  • thanks for sharing !!

  • @Pyr0love hehehe

  • What a fantastic video! Long live The Smiths! Stop by our channel and check out our cover of HOW SOON IS NOW. We are an Electro/Alternative band from London called Time Tourists. :)

  • Heard this song as I walked into a Radio Shack today....brought back some good memories!

  • Nice to see Kirsty Maccoll doing the backing vocals on this track!!

  • 5 people dont wanna ask!

  • loka

  • la wea volaaa me encantaaa

  • Morrisey is my favorite asexual<3

  • where the fuck did he get bond from....pillock

  • @CoQ10z I love the fact that - because you've pointed out his mistake - it's there at the top of the comments for everyone to see, too! (Where the hell did he get "Bond" from in the first place anyway?!)

  • nice...

    smiths here i come!

  • chiedimi chiedimi chiedimiiiiii.....;-D

  • @obsesivefunatica I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BONG! :LLL

  • @obsesivefunatica this song is from the album 'louder than bombs' so it makes sense..

  • @obsesivefunatica its bomb you flid

  • I absolutetly love the break at 1:30.

  • ...ciao Mildred !!!....:)))

  • I had no idea that this is what Colin Meloy was covering in his solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live! It kinda did remind me of The Smiths though. I need to get to know ALL their songs! They're amazing!!

  • ''writing frightening verse to a buck tooth girl in luxembourg' ....one of the best lines ever written in any song.

  • shyness is NOT nice. Shyness can stop you from talking to girls. Wich sucks.

I'm shy, and I hate being shy :(

  • @CoQ10z Firstly, I'm not a blonde, you silly person. And I could have said far worse than "silly," this is the internet after all. I already said I felt foolish, so there's no need to call me a buffoon. It was a simply light-hearted comment (hence the smiley face and the word "silly") about a song I still really love, so there's no need to get spiky about it.

  • I grew up listening to this! So glad to find it here.

  • ask me, i wont say no, how could i?

  • I love england, the britishs have the best song :P

  • @captainjotaro There are great songs from other parts of Britain. Britian = Scotland, England, Wales. United Kingdom = Scotland, England, Wales & Northern Ireland. Please don't mistakenly carry on thinking that 'England' and 'Britain' are interchangeable. You are negating my culture and upbringing (as do so many other people). If you want to hear some brilliant but criminally underrated bands, then check out Orange Juice, The Bluebells, The Pastels, Hipsway and Popup. For starters.

  • @hennaG2 Sorry D: !!! I like bands from scotland too

  • @captainjotaro I'm sorry too cj. I must have been in one hell of a bad mood when I wrote that. But it does annoy me when people confuse 'English' with 'British'. Glad to hear you like some Scottish bands - which ones?

  • @hennaG2 Simple Minds

  • @captainjotaro Great band. One of my favourties.

  • @hennaG2 Yaaa for me is the best band acually :D

  • @captainjotaro They were my favourite band growing up. My whole family (parents and four sisters) were all big fans. I stopped listening to them for years and am now just getting back into them again.

  • @hennaG2 For me is the best band from years 80 :P the smiths is awesome !!! and anothers bands from scotland heheheh !

  • the BONG is what i thought xD

  • @91Kickflip lol :)

  • i thought it was "then it's the bond that will bring us together"

  • @Stromeh Illogical.

  • I want a Smiths shirt. So bad D: They don't sell them in the South? LIES.

    Ohmygod I want one :/ I love them <3 ^-^

  • Yeah it's bomb. If we don't start loving each other, the bombs are coming basically

  • shyness is nice, and shyness can stop you

  • The 'bomb' will unite us in death. It's one of Morrissey's frequent and direct references to death itself.
