Great scene great movie! Delves right into the heart of Americas drug war, crime and punishment, and the brutal reality of the drug trade. Discounting all the moralistic BS about right and wrong, the bottom line is always about money. And cops and law enforcement are just as dishonest, corrupt and ruthless as the people they supposed protect us from.
"i dont give a fuck about no police then and i dont give a fuck about no police now..sheet!" thats why denzels the greatest actor of our generation. fuckin amzing delivery. makes me want to throw coffee at every pig eating po-po out there.
@Hellblazer311 respect, how would it look if he just goth is than stepped out? He'd look like a puss. Also, he took care of his town. He couldn't just turn his back on them. He was a criminal but he still had a sense of honor.
@NuJoiseyMAN i think it's because on some level he respects what richie represents. remember frank valued honesty and integrity, two traits which richie, atleast in his job, seems to value as well
@spliffster88 Roberts seemed to have something personal against him. "do you really think putting me behind bars is going to change anything on em streets?" Roberts knew he wasn't really changing anything, it was more about bringing Frank down then doing good for the community. Roberts was fine with 'business returning to normal' which only restores the old drug dealers. It was about personal accomplishment for him, not public service.
@NuJoiseyMAN Roberts isn't fine with business returning to normal, in this scene he's basically telling Lucas that he can put him in jail for the rest of his life unless he provides the names of other drug dealers( which Lucas does). Roberts doesn't have a personal grudge against Lucas, later on he becomes Frank's defense lawyer and gets him a sentence of only 15 years
@NuJoiseyMAN that's not true buddy , First of all he was trying to stop the blue magic drug (100% pure) business which was the greatest selling and lowest price on the street, secondly he proved Frank by arresting all corrupt cops which were involved in traffic drug business which means he's not in their kind, thirdly later on like cntstndya says up there ¨he becomes Frank's defense lawyer and gets him out a sentence of only 15 years¨ I think if he had something against him he'd be still in jail
I think Roberts had enough evidence, for someone to carry the case against Lucas after being whacked. Plus he woulda had added time on the 70 years as well, he is in his 40s, he pretty much did was nicky barnes did, gave up people. Only diff is Frank Lucas can still show his name and face in public, Nicky Barnes cannot and is still hated in Harlem.

Russel Crowes worst fucking performance ever. Why the fuck would they cast him for this role? Jesus it mad no damn sense to me. Should of been Sean Penn or Nick Nolte. Washington on the other hand has "Deniro syndrome" in that he is the 'Denzel' in every fucking movie hes does. The love or hate black man. This was a good movie though. Josh Brolin should of got an oscar for his crooked SIU role.

You know what confuses me about all these guys? Why don't you just quit after you've made a couple of million?
I can't imagine I would continue to risk my freedom after I was a millionaire.
Same with the guy from Blow, George Jung.

I really think this scene is a classic. The best part is that this is the first time these characters meet on screen and its 15 minutes from the end.

Dear Crowe: "please teach me how to make the other actor change levels 6 times, while you stay at the same level and win?"
