A friend posted this on Facebook...sorry to say, I had never even heard of the song before.....but I have been a Grace Slick since the beginning of the Jefferson Airplane. Hmmm...guess that tells ya how ancient I might be. This version of hers is The Best!
I've had the album Conspicuous Only in its Absence since the seventies and this song has always blown me away. I never knew anyone else recorded it until I was walking around the Goodwill Store in Cumming GA (which always plays oldies on the PA) and heard this song by someone else! Needless to say I was groovin to it and everyone else was pretty oblivious to it. Found out later it was The Jaynetts. Never know what you'll find at the Goodwill Store. But, Grace, yours will always be the best.
First heard this in the 70's. I still have the double album set. Now I listen to the cd--the trippy organ run is fabulous!! Thanks for the upload. Great remake of a great song.
@beat1866 fuck off with this fuckn' bitch who calls herself "The60sForever". You have just commented on this fucking video to appear to this bitch! So, I wanna appear too!
Before the Airplane she showed her vocal chops with Great Society. I've remembered this song since it was played way back, Mr. Peabody. Now it's available to all. Nice to have the opportunity and choice. Net freedom.
Funny callng this Indian-influenced West Coast psychedelia when except for the organ it's pretty faithful to the original, recorded a few years earlier by a girl group from the Bronx.
Pretty fun that everybody's calling this Indian-influenced psychedelia when it's a cover of a girl group song done a couple of years earlier by a group from the Bronx.
Great. And an interesting organ solo for the time. Very Rick Wright with the Indian scales. Unusual for West coast psych anyway, but this is before Floyd cut any vinyl, and even the Beatles had only just gone Indian.
Thanks for this Magdalena. It's particularly interesting to hear this early example of Indian-influenced psychedelia. The mid-60s was a time when people were exploring a variety of options. How easily we took it for granted. it will not come again.
Originally NOT a psychedelic song, but now when I hear the other version, I always think of this one. That Grace Slick and The Great Society album was a classic. Hey, pass that thing over my way...
Although the original "Sally" by the Jaynettes is more haunting and mysterious this version roooocks... Very interesting what Grace does vocally with the song...
This band had neither the most talented musicians, nor were especially disciplined ... but wotta sound. And with Grace Slick on vocals ... a slice of history worth re-discovering, lo these many decades later.
When i here the word beauty.the first thing that comes to mind is grace slick.

This is one of her best songs! The background music starts to sound a bit like the Doors but it's really cool. Her voice is great!

I still love this, too. . . haven't heard it or thought of it in 20 or 30 years, srsly.

Boy, did they cover this one!! I've always loved this version. Also worth checking out is the Pentangle's version on "Basket of Light", 1969.
P.S. Grace also plays organ on this!!
