Bob Marcucci, (who co-wrote the song along with his partner, Peter DeAngelis who both owned Chancellor Records) passed on March 9th in L.A. Bob also discovered Fabian and Frankie Avalon. Nothing like that South Philly sound from the late '50s~early '60s.
Bob was 81 and we just don't have talent developers like him anymore.
Just loved this little "ditty." Just a fun, innocent song from a time that those words accurately described as well. America was still innocent; in the not too distant future the world and our perception of it would change. The early 60s all was well by 68, sadly, we began to learn about h---. Thank you for a post to remember innocence by.
It's a mystery why two of the best girl-group voices (Clark, and Brenda Reid of the Exciters), didn't attain more success on the charts than they did. Too bad Claudine Clark became a one-hit-wonder...but WHAT A HIT IT IS!!! It's a true classic.
I can relate to not being aloud to go to party. I don't know what is like to wake up feeling like P Diddy or have I ever got a poker face or any of that crap.
Back in 1958 there was no group called the Detroit Spinners. The Spinners that came out of Detroit led by Bobby Smith wasn't formed until the 60's and they never sang with Claudine Clark. I believe the group that backed her up were called the Spinners but as far as I know, who they were is still a mystery.
I was in college then; and although i went to every R & B show that came through town and absolutely loved R & R in high school, I was immersed in other things/music/theatre in college, so my R & B days were limited to those shows in high school and stuff on the radio (which, of course, I LIVED by!!). What fun to hear the FUN music of our youth.....
This song came out when I was five. It was one of my favorites because it reminded me of my older sister who was a teenager at the time and who was always trying to get our mother to let her go to some party or other.
My elementary years at Glenwood in Winder, Georiga before I moved to Brooklyn...listening to this song on a Nashville station that played soul music in the early sixties.
Well she might be a one hit wonder but what a hit it is. FIRE IT UP, GET ME ANOTHER BEER AND PLAY THAT SONG AGAIN ......... and shut up while it's on .....
This was my all time favorite song for many years--it was released the summer that I turned 13. Almost made it to # 1 in Pittsburgh, but "The Locomotion" kept it from that spot.
I graduated from high school in 1962 and clearly remember hearing this at my neighbor's graduation party. It had a good beat and you could dance to it. I hear it and am tempted to start doing the Mashed Potato with its easy beat.
I love the mashed potato! "The Mashed Potato started a long time ago, with a guy named sloppy joe, you'll find this dance is so cool to do, come on baby gonna teach it to you" WOO! .....And I'm only 14
Listen to girls just wanna have fun by Cyndi Lauper and you can hear licks very similar to this great oldie-it may be a "one hit wonder"but it lives on!
This song is part of the great sound of the 60s, similar to the music of: The Orlons, Barbara George, The Exciters, The Essex, Jimmy Soul, Major Lance, Maurice Williams etc. Just good old rock and rock music at heart, need I say more. Oh yeah Claudine would take it to the number five spot on the billboard charts in 1962 and yes a great party song!!
Summer of 1962 memories are filling my mind, What a great song. It was very big on American Bandstand. I can see Geri Ianetti and Richie Cartledge dancing right now.
We would get out of school at 3:00PM and all meet down at the local Soda shop that sold the best Cheesburgers and fries. Not the crappy tastless paste tasting shi? that you get served now.
We would put a dime in the jukebox and dance to this song for hours.
What a gas it was back then...not a worry in the world!
This song reminds me of my sister. She was on restriction for something, we had a 2 story house, she was sitting upstairs in her room looking out her window, looking at the lights from the high school football game and playing this song over and over.
I have the party lights in my back yard red blue and green thay are solar lights and i sing this song every time i look out side i also have a set in my front yard i just love that song when i was a teenager,I SEE THE LIGHT'S I SEE THE LIGHT'S I SEE THE PARTY LIGHT'S
Wow! I remember when me,my sisters, mom and dad used to go into our basement and party. That was back when people had house partys. Remember the red light and the slodrag? The twist, monkey, watusi, mash potatoes and the jerk. Those were good fun times. Thank God I had them.
I grew up in the 60's and this was jus one of my many favorite songs...brings back tons of pleasant memories...those were the good old days...thanx for posting it!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm 13 and this song helped me get over a serious mescaline addiction

Does anyone have any idea where CLAUDINE CLARK is now? I heard she wrote a rock operetta. I'd like to track it down.

@Bebop956 She's 70 yrs old now, but you can Google "Claudine Clark Fan Club" and you might be able to contact her though that. Good luck.

Yes, girls just want to have fun--and so do guys! But. did she mean to make a scene about her anger, or simply a public display of her love?
VinDcator 1 year ago
@V Not "make *a* scene" : "make *the* scene". No anger or love, just frustration, not being where the action is.
