  • It just wouldn't be complete if he didn't have an evil look on his face when he was playing.

  • Rinat, you're sound is inspirational.

Any time I need a little help getting in the mood to practice, I watch your videos on youtube. Thank you!

  • Russian musiciants the Best in the worldt! Who dont belive-lets watch LSO principal viola! He play much worse than students from russian college (14-15 years old). But sometime life like this. Rinat -Respect!!!

  • Wow !

  • excellent presentation of your ability to impart wisdom and knowledge to the bass community. i would like to purchase one of your instructional DVDs if possible.

beautiful tone and vibrato.... intonation and execution..

question: is there a preference for how tight the bow is for different styles.. ex: solo playing to orchestral and chamber?

  • un contrabbasso con il suono da "contyrabbasso" !!!!! Bravissimo

  • This bassist is exceptional! I wish he had made them audition the soli in Mvt. III of Beethoven 5 though!

  • Awesome Doublebass sound

  • i like the accent. good job

  • fender bass is an electric instrument.. you call this one a double bass, but I'm not really sure of the brand..

  • Thanks Joe but I was trying to be funny. Maybe my humour is just strange

  • hey no worries man.. who knows.. some fellows may just simply make a double bass that goes by the brand name fender jazz double bass....he,he,he,...

  • why black hair on bow?

  • Comment removed

  • Black bow hair is more course so there is a fuller louder sound which is ideal for orchestral playing for some bassists.

  • So i heard that the higher notes [with black hair] are weaker. Is this true? I don't know, since my 2 bows are white-haired....

  • its another type of bow hair.. some say its bigger than the white one..

  • Dude this guy is a god! His vibrato is dope, THE WORLD NEEDS MORE BASSISTS!!!!!

  • THANK YOU....I like you =-P

  • 4:19 holy fuck that was awesome!!!!

  • how is his bass soooooooooooo clear?...is it steroids? dude, i could never get my notes to be that clear.......he is a boss....

  • he is the principle contrabass for the London Symphony Orchestra. he's had lots of practice

  • Comment removed

  • when hes playin the pizzicato on the tan dun piece hes plucking very low, i thought orchestral double bassists plucked highr up the neck becus it doesnt sound as percussive and sounds boomier. thats what i do anyway :P

  • look at his finger-pads!!! they are like frogs ones :) does that mean mine will be like that in a few years time? (I only took up double bass 2 months ago..)

  • but that would be good for a double-bass player cuz of the thick strings...

  • Does anyone know how many Double Basses there are in the LSO, not a lot i suppose but in my schools orchestra there is only 2 of us, there is me and my friend Kirsten. lol

  • my god... fantastic double bass... :D

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone have the sheet music that he's referring to?

  • I'm an aspiring double bassist, but I'm wondering if its normal to sit with the bass that low? I still use the peg even when I'm sitting

  • He has the nut at eyebrow level, which is very normal. He's probably not very tall. Every person is different, though. Maybe you curve your arm more, or you prefer bowing closer to the bridge, which means you'd set your bass higher. Arm length is important too.

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • Upright Bass FTW

  • fantastik musician

  • hey Mr. Naumov! nice to read you around here! =D i finally get to see a video of Mr. Ibragimov performing. He just put a big smile on my face. And what a tone! Looking forward to hear him live one day. Greetings, Joel

  • Hello!!!Mr.WACCIUWARI!!!!!!!

Have you ever listen to him in life???

    i don't think so...

    Were you in Bottesini competition???

I would like to know how you play....

talking bad about this great musician doesn't say so much about you....

  • hello i am 12 years old and i also play the double bass but im not nearly as good as you so i hope you win.

  • this guy is from the london symphony orchestra..

he is just giving some advice...

  • Dear Wacciuwari

  • effettivamente mi sembra strano anche a me!

  • wow i wanna play the bass now..

  • his pinky is bigger than his ring finger, the indicator of a true pro.

  • lol, and the gigantic callous on his thumb.

  • Definitely great advice. t'is a shame I'm not playing any of these pieces =(

    Saludos.

  • That bass is so amazing!

  • you fail

  • terribile!

  • anyway is he holding a full-size bow? cause it looked as if his holding sth shorter than that

  • wow rarely someone who would use a black bow haired bow

  • Amazing he doesnt get that shitty squicking sound whenever he slurs strings with the g string

  • where do u get other excerpts???????

  • Where can i get the individual peices for the musical aspect of the audition?

  • I've only been playing for five years, and maybe if I had got this sooner I would, but I'm not good enough to have a shot with two weeks of practice. I have to do a all-county (best players in county aged 13-14) in three days and I'm not even sure Im ready for that... maybe next time.

  • ahhh such a rich sound

but ive never seen anyone hold a french bow the way he does...well whatever

  • jazz n rock better get out from the music...

    i don't like that 2.

  • Excuse me what!?!!? NO WAY!!!

I've been playing for over a decade and have experience in brass and woodwinds as well...I honestly think that bass is the most difficult instrument I've encountered, especially to make sound pretty and legato.

  • this guy is awesome

  • O_o ... I hope that was sarcasm.

  • lol i recorded it on electic bass. they will probably ignore it. im so rebel...

  • ROFL. Dude, are you kidding me? Double bass is extremely difficult.

  • amen to that

  • Haha, when he was saying about getting the section to play together I was thinking of my last section leader, she would have made any drill sergeant happy, but damn did we play well.

  • wow this guy is amazing.

I would really like to have a go at auditioning for this Eroica for Internet thing (lol, the internet part is kind of demeaming to music but hey, whatevs).

Can anyone tell me where to go if i want to find out all the other people's audition vids?

  • Nic tips ... I'm prob no going to try to participate ... I'm not quite good yet ... I've been playing for a quite short time ... but ... I'll surely use ur tips to pratice

  • my bass wasn't around by the time of this recording so I borrowed this on which now belongs to netherland phil, and claimed to be gofriller.

  • Do u know anything about this instrument?

  • No it's because you are dumb.

  • That is very beautiful! I thought basses have more slope on the top. Is this an unusual type of bass? Can someone tell me about it?

    Thank you!

  • its one of the highest quality basses...i had a lesson with the principal bassist of the la phil, dennis trembly, and he had the same kind of bass the only diference was that he had a low c string so he play with a 5 string.. beast

  • Thank you!

  • great player

  • I Like the way this guy plays, kinda reminds me of a "Hal Robinson" style player

  • wat is wrong with his beard ???:

  • thats a russian beard

  • Amazing bassist. I'm a freshman bassist in high school. :) I wish I was as good as you.

  • what if i have an electric bass?its almost the sam only smaller

  • negative

  • Though the fingerings are similar, the sound in an orchestral setting is COMPLETELY different dear. Great for jazz and rock though.

  • He's a great Double Bass Player. He reminds me of the good old days...

  • i like his right hand bowing technique. great balance, control, and flexible movement of the fingers.

  • he has a nice full sound.

  • Wow he makes me want to play french bow...

  • Do you play german bow? My friend said it was eaiser than french. I play french bow and my hands get so tired after 1.5 hours.

  • I just started playing bass. I have a german bow but i have to play it in the french way because thats the way we learn to hold the bow. I have to get a bigger bass and i will have a french bow and i am so excited

  • Sweet. I think its funny you use a german bow frech style. I like to hold the bow like a 2 year old holds a crayon and call it an american bow hold. How long ago did you start bass?

  • I started this school year. I got my 1/4 bass today and i love getting to play the french bow the french way

  • haha u gonna play the french bow the german way? damn a 1/4?? dats tiny

  • Cool! 1/4? That seems tiny. I play 3/4 typically.

  • 3/4 that seems huge. Ok i am tiny

  • LOL

  • french bow to me is harder becasue i dont have as much control as a german bow. but becasue of playing french bow i have a massive muscle between my thumb and index finger =)

  • Seriously! The french bow makes my arm tired more probably because it's harder to control. It's a pain to deal with during concerts.

  • Wonderful.

  • what piece is this

  • Does anyone else notice that bars 113 116 are missing when Maestro Dun conducts the silent version of the bass part? There is also a bar that gets cut during the editing of the video before 104. This does not happen during the version with audio. Can someone double check this?

  • That bit from the ninth is one of the greatest moments in music. Excellent choice.

  • BASSES are so awesome. been playing for 8 years.....awesomeness. just the depth and range of it...wow.

  • Work on fucking yourself.

  • oh that's real mature kapineapple.

  • i do . it's coming slowly...

  • im just startin doubble bass but i have a lot of experience by playing the guitar for 5 years and the bass guitar for 3 and the violin until grade 1. do you think double bass is moderately easy?

  • Wow! you are awesome!! you must be from another world or something!! GOOD FOR YOU!!! hahahahaha

  • To be decent at bass is easy...it's one of those easy to learn but incredibly difficult to master instruments. I've been playing for over a decade and it's incredibly challenging.

  • you don't rule captain...why don't you make a video for another country let's say France.....

  • What are you talking about? Why France?

  • There're two main types of double bass bow, French and German.

The French bow is like a large cello bow, held with fingers and thumb opposing, whilst the German bow is much bigger (picture a hacksaw) and you hold it making a fist, sawing at the strings.

    Ish.

  • ah like that:). I looked that up right after my comment! Didn't realise that you were talking about that though. Thx.

  • the german bow is better for getting the depth needed in sound but for speed i would go with the french bow

i have been playing the bass for 7 years and have recently switched over to the german bow because it allows for more control

i still have yet to meet another female bassist in my age group(16 years old..=p)

anyone planning on doing this let me know... maybe we could practice sometime...hahaha

this is going to be challenging

  • I play double bass also. Thanks for the advice.

  • Beautiful Bowing, Excellent-Rolling stone.

  • i love the slow camera pans of the bass. so seductive. i mean, look at those curves and tailpiece. oh - the excerpts are nice too. :)

  • where do you get the other excerpts from plz.....

    I love YouTube

  • exelentee!!!!!!!!!! I like
