I'm from London but recently moved to the US and they don't have the continuity announcers here (and they've got shitloads of announcers, but that's another matter), and trust me mate, it's much better to have those continuity bits. It's not uncommon to not know when the show's started, because there've just been 6 minutes of adverts and there's no continuity announcer... hell there's not even a continuity graphic.

Oh are they called continuity announcers? I learned something new today - thank you Ginger Chris blog. In the US, they've started fast-forwarding the credits while they're teeny tiny (to make room for the huge graphics and only have credits take up a milisecond of time) so they squeeze every drop of advertising time into the breaks.

By the way, I love the song. You should play that as your new blog theme. Although the old one is quite good as well. xD

We don't really have continuity announcers in the US. There's stuff like that occasionally, but it's sort of rare. We just get scrolling text across the bottom of the screen during the show that's on telling us what's next.

The scrolling text must be annoying. British TV is getting slated because channels are trying so desperately hard to keep you as soon as a show finishes, hence the continuity announcers. But in the US, it seems they don't even wait for the show to finish.

I don't know who gets the worse deal.

It really is. And we get the huge graphics as well, I try and block it out though. They don't care if they interrupt what you're currently watching, as long as you stick around to watch the show in the huge graphic's scrolling text. :(
