Funny part is about these motors are they are very tough and almost bullet proof up to mid 300's. Problem lyes in the ECU. Its one gig away from being AI and likes to think on its own, which isnt the best thing for it. There is a local guy who slapped a Borg Warner of some large size to his Stock MZR and almost cracked 500 hosre. Its not that the engine cant handle it, its the Tune that has to be spot on to eliminate KR and keep fuel and timing where it should be.
@tommyblunt if you read the comments below you'll see this was a customer's car whom we built an engine for. typically when a rod bearing is spun, the head and block are fine. you could machine the crank, though i'd honestly replace it.
My Speed6 did the same thing, where did you take yours and how much did it cost to fix???? Mines been in the shop now for 10 months because I dont have $4k and my mechanic is a fucking idiot!!!
@nickthastick i run Protege Garage. we offer replacement engines and replacement engine parts. The engine we sold this customer made over 400 wheel horsepower
@ProtegeGarage if u offer replacement parts from ur shop would u happen to have just a replacement variable cam timing actuator or variable valve timing actuator for an 07 mazda 6 2.3? as ive been finding in my readings, i cant find just the actuator anywhere.. everybody wants u to buy the whole kit thats like $400+ and that involves extensive work to replace all of that instead of just the VVT.. please help with thanks from houston with no car now and hardly any money being unemployed soo long
Its those Boost spikes (peak torque) that happen so quickly due to the turbo being fairly small, that cause the rods to bend in this type of situation, a bigger turbo with less boost would make more power, and with a smoother tq curve, and it would actually be easier on the engine, and run cooler
the accessport "pro tune" on the car was completely out of whack with the wastegate table data values. the car would spike well in advance of 30psi under various load conditions. as i said, not my car here, and the customer was not at the time understanding how bad that kind of thing actually was. a pro tune setup by another technician and a built motor with big turbo is now in the car, and its doing very well with stable numbers and operation.
Mine was stock and slung #2 through the block @ 76k. I was just sitting in the driveway.. click click boom

just replay the rods/bearings/maybe valves if they got bent and I think your engine will be ok?

:( poor MS3 thats why i wont tune mine
LFADRIFTER 1 year ago
@LFADRIFTER modifying and not tuning is precisely what lands you in this predicament though. i presume you meant you're leaving the car stock
ProtegeGarage 5 months ago 3
@ProtegeGarage Exactly...
If someone knows what they're doing, a tune means eliminating KR via editing fuel trims and such.
I've got no idea where/why people get the impression that tuning = physical modding

Boost spikes? Didn't take the exhaust into account or the waste gate was malfunctioning or the vacuum hose to the waste-gate solenoid fell off.

That doesn't sound good.

was not my car, customer saw spikes of 25psi and once 30psi. it was tuned by an outside source, i feel there were holes in the tune.
ProtegeGarage 2 years ago
how much boost were you running? and was it tuned for the amount of mods?
