I think that people can't defend illegal download and fansubs or scanlations every person out there that is doing that are scum of the anime fandom because these creators work hard and their put blood and sweat into the stuff they create and they don't get paid much for it and they still do it for the fans and some idiot out there have to steal their work and provide a free service without the creator's blessing and then try to defend it is really just stupid.
Purchasing something used is NOT contributing to the industry. You are simply adding to a black market economy. The creators and companies involved don't see a dime and the originals had to come from somewhere, so the original was purchase.
For things that are out of print and has no chance of being released with a translation there is no harm in the fansub. How could there be?
I think really it's a big give and take. Companies need to rethink some of their choices but as fans, we do have a bit of responsibility to help supply the industry.
If we don't support (and I'm usually not the type to go buy anything since I have the internet) anime and even manga won't be around for enjoyment.
Yes, it may seem like they're trying to obtain sales but honestly, think about it. How are you suppose to enjoy the things you love when you have barely any support behind it?
Geneon isn't gone. Geneon USA is. Geneon makes the actual anime and Geneon USA just sells the stuff to America. Geneon USA going bust isn't that big of a deal, and Geneon proper is going to still be around for a while.
Watanabe Is My Hero...He Has Done Some Of My Favorite Animes. Why Should People Ruin Something He Worked Hard On. People Who Attacked Him Can Go Screw Themselves With Chopsticks
I agree. Seriously, "screw Watanabe"? Hell no, leechers, Watanabe's done far more for anime than people like those guys have, and if anyone should be crucified, it should be them. Geneon disappeared, ADV's pretty much relying on Funimation now, and now I hear Watanabe got yelled at? That's it, my sympathy for "download only" people just VANISHED.
Unlike our friend "Greg" you can find out that the industry is adapting. Its not crashing, its converting. That can be painful for diehards like Greg, but "industry" is already taking advantage of services from fan subbers "Dattebyo." Working on full legal products, and he thinks these people have no place in the industry.
I also didn't say Naruto. If you looked on their site, Dattebayo has done professional work, but they declined to mention which series they subbed (professionally).
ooh dear again someone that just doesn't read their comment through. if you havnt noticed the changes in the industry then seriously you need to! its not a freaking fantasy happening in some far off world its happening right here! right now! and how can you say 'the ship isnt sinking ever' uhh kinda is mate, do you think these people make this stuff up to be naggers um NO they are just trying to help everyone including u to see that we are all in danger of losing what we all share and love.

Sorry young one. You are just another underage b& that has never heard of sensationalism, time to get in touch with reality.
Yes there are fuckheads out there that blow things completely out of proportion and scream "FEAR FEAR. IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING THE SKY WILL FALL!". Greg Ayres is one of them.
young one? hm that's new. yes it is true that often people over react to things, but even if he is over reacting does that mean its okay if you steal, and sub and what ever else. so if the whole system were crashing it would be not ok, but since you think hes 'over reacting' that makes this all ok? The heck?

He is overreacting. The date of this con and the NOT CRUMBLING factor of the anime&manga industry proves it.
The whole system should crash if it can't sell its own product to consumers. Either the product being sold is garbage or someone is assuming the product is worth alot more than it actually is. It would be NO different selling physical goods. Not my responsibility to keep bad business practices afloat. The system is meant to adapt to what the consumer wants.Not us adapt to what they want.
You and people like you are nothing more than thieves. You should be in jail. If you think stealing anime is ok then you think stealing from people on the street is ok. A crime is a crime.
Anime is a niche hobby in the west, and to some people it's just a fad that is outstaying its welcome. You're based in the UK, so you've probably gone to HMV and seen anime bundled with martial arts flicks. That tells you all you need to know.
If people continue to illegally download anime or watch it streamed, the demand for the DVDs will go down, and the industry will start to decline because it lacks its lifeblood.
"They crucified him on the internet" Of course they did, it's the Internet. Try to go on /b/ try to get some sympathy, see what you get.

1: you can continue trying to sell anime in the same format on the same medium and supposedly crash and burn...or
2: sell in newer mediums and formats, and make money
or your choice
3: bitch about people at your circle jerk panels to try and "save the industry" through appeals to emotion

Did you not just hear this guy say that they allow an episode a week to be streamed on the website from the actual license holders.
How about the fact that you can find an OFFICIAL direct download of Death Note on the OFFICIAL website for $1 an episode.

Dattebayo isn't subbing Naruto for Viz. They did the right thing and said "Viz is getting their act together, we're done here."

@vash4me
I know this is an old comment but Dattebayo has never subbed anything professionally. That's just a service they provide.
DrunkSamurai 1 year ago
@DrunkSamurai
Well, this may be just an troll, but Dattebayo *has* done professional work, you've just never seen for whom.
vash4me 1 year ago
@vash4me
Dattebayo stated it? Then it was probably a troll.
DrunkSamurai 1 year ago
@DrunkSamurai
Most people who know Dattebayo know about their professional services.
If you haven't explored that far on their site...
meh I give this troll a 4/10 - (be more subtle next time)

@vash4me
You're a fucking idiot who doesn't know what a troll is. Just because Dattebayo says they have done it doesn't mean it's true.
