I think this is beautiful. I LOVE this. ^_^ My 18 year old brother showed me to tons of musicians. I owe it to him. :D If I didn't have my older brother I wouldn't know any good music!
"Your flag you flew so high..." is just an incredible and unexpected finish to the song that reminds of Springsteen's versatility and ability to surprise.
Maybe it's been mentioned before but this song sounds EXTREMELY similar to R.E.M.'s song At My Most Beautiful. Surely i'm not the only to notice this. I still like this song though
beautiful song from Bruce with a hint of Warren Zevon type lyrics and a sprinkle of Brian Wilson influenced harmonies make this song shine right on through. And if you listen real close...this song might just be singing to you. So turn it up!
Its about the loss of civil liberties in this country.
And the last line of the song is, in my opinion, one of the best lines ever written... "Your flag that flew so high, it difted into the sky"...so powerful.
thx tf. 'fingerprints left on file' means they can track you down I guess. Bush is not popular now but he did a good thing by removing Saddam Hussein. I had a Kurdish friend in London who lost all his family by a blatant genocidal act of Saddam. We as allies (Australian) may have caused problems in the middle east but if Muslims have too much power they will take over. 1000 mosques in the UK even though they represent only 2 % of the population, however, no churches in Saudi Arabia.
I used to believe this but you have to understand that it was not Bush who removed Saddam it was the American soldiers. Bush was is able to declare that the lives of these citizen soldiers is worth less than the death of this tyrant. After much thought on the issue I cannot understand why any government should ever be given this right to make these decisions (at least in regards to offensive wars). We dont have this right as individuals, so how can a collective body such as a govt?
Its called for the greater common good...majority rules. Soldiers take orders, they dont make them! I dont believe in our system or our leaders & its why I have never and will never vote. People that have jobs working for the public make more than twice as much as the public they claim to serve.
There is no such thing as the 'common good' and majority rules is the same as dictatorship, except that instead of tyranny of one you get tyranny of the many. ...Soldiers take order but they should not follow them if they are immoral!! ...Vote libertarian!
you voted for bush or didn;t vote you aloud this goverment to get away with there criminal actions and you have to look in the mirror and see whos at fault
Unfortuneatley I voted for Bush and am ashamed (I wouldnt have voted for Kerry though...would have voted third party) but people need to realize that our civil liberties really first started to be eaten away under FDR and then slowly over the years things got worse and worse and Bush has just become, what I hope, is the last straw...doubt it though.
left clumsily at the scene....

@jizzninja If this song makes you think of Christmas you've missed the point entirely. Rather perhaps the alarm bell at the beginning
is supposed to make one think of an Emergency...9-11.

My 2d favorite song from Magic after "Summer Clothes:" Very Beach Boys-like. Why didn't he do it on the tour? I think he only did it once.
