Go to "The Pretenders - Middle of the Road" to get it - looks like a club scene where a guy introduces the group. It's from 1984 and says "The Pretenders 1984" at the beginning of the video.
Yup! Although The Replays did stray into R'n'R, Blues and R'n'B (not the modern stuff) but with a doowop feel. Check out Rama Lama Ding Dong and Shout! Shout! Knock Yourself Out! - both Top 20 hits in the UK and Europe.
Thanks for the knowledge! Maybe you can also tell me what happens at the end of The Pretender's "Middle of the Road" (a personal favorite) video when chaos takes over?
It looks like a traditional punk invasion. All the rage at the time. Even the police turned up - and I don't mean Sting and Co. This is not the original Pretenders line-up. I think that's Robbie MacIntosh on guitar. But on bass is definitely Malcolm Foster who played bass for the Replays on their second album Rock it to Mars. See the Replays'Martian Hop - although you don't see the band there is a version with them in the background and it is Malcolm on bass.
If you remember the original song, you'll recognize right away the "PREEMA" (as in Donna) emphasis instead of the Dion-like "PRIMA"... in the Rocky Sharp & The Replays" version. I guess they're not old enough to have listened to it as many times as we did!
Does anybody have the reved-up turbocharged version of this song? Little Steven played it on his Underground Garage some months back (end of July 2006) but he never gave the group name.

I could enjoy it if they`d sing it live, instead of all that playback cheats.

with that coreography and those dresses, they don't need to sing live lol

The Dion version was a great example of the artist copying his own hit.(Runaround Sue)
Takes real talent to do that

It's not age it's because they are from Brighton, England, and sing with a different accent.

Really - I'd never heard of them until I searched. Other than the aforementioned, they don't sound British - I wouldn't have known. Thanks!
