How ironic - I feel quite the opposite! I thought LWW was a superior movie in almost every way. It certainly was a better adaptation, IMO. But I must check out your later reviews to better understand your point of view :)
I was a big fan of the harry potter and lord of the rings books and films, I never read Narnia. I decided to see the movie just to check it out. I thought it was a good movie, until I read the book. Then i thought it was an ok movie. I became a full fledged fan, read all the books, and waited for Caspian similar to how you did
Saw it 5 hours ago! Whew! You said that the theme of FAITH was portrayed better in the movie than in the book? How so? I found that theme mostly absent...with the lack of the scene about following Aslan and gradually being able to see him. Because I think faith is the essential allegorical theme of the Prince Caspian book...and it wasn't made clear in the movie. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this topic!
They made a really big deal at the end of their only hope being that Aslan would turn up. And I loved the scene (that was not in the book) where Susan asks "why couldn't I see Aslan?" and Lucy responds "maybe you didn't really want to." And then there's the scene where Peter tells Lucy "I wish he would give me some kind of proof."
Peter decides to raid the castle because he trusts himself, not Aslan. After it goes badly, he learns humility and to have faith in Aslan.
Yeah, but to me it didn't really seem like they believed Aslan would turn up. Peter was just kind of saying he wanted proof flippantly, not like he actually /believed/ that Aslan would give him proof. I like how Peter has to sort of repent and have faith in Aslan at the end. But I feel like the Christian themes of the book were skipped over, and this movie wouldn't really inspire people to dig deeper into the sort of spiritual themes like LWW would. Anyway, I still loved the movie. :)
Oh yes, they certainly didn't believe it at the beginning. That scene with Peter showed that he was going to do the right thing and depend on Aslan even though it didn't feel right.
What scenes from the book do you think should have been included that would've made it more Christian?
Oh, I would have liked to see at least a hint of the scene where the Pevensies gradually begin to see Aslan. And some of the argument between Caspian/Trufflehunter/Cornelius and Nikabrik/hag/werewolf before the White Witch scene. (It hints at Lewis's apologetics and beliefs.)
The scene where some of them can see Aslan was in the film. Peter says "why wouldn't I have seen him?" and Lucy responds "Maybe you weren't looking." Which is true. Peter was depending on only himself.
And I love the scene where Susan says "why couldn't I see him?" and Lucy says "maybe you didn't want to." I would say they took the idea in that scene from the book, and expanded it through the whole film. Up to the very end of the battle where they finally see him.
I... didn't need to be so scared. The moment I saw that amazing camera work, the music, the whole *feel* of the horseback chase at the beginning, I leaned over to my mom and whispered "I'm in freaking love with this movie."
Congrats on seein it! You've done a really good job keeping everyone posted and excited about the movie. Looking forward to seeing more of your thoughts soon.
I'm gonna see it in like two hours wooooooooooooo! I'm so excited I've been watching these blogs since the beginning and they're one of the main reasons I'm this excited about it (also because I'm a big fan of the books) further up and further in.
Here in the Dominican Rep I'll have to wait til May 29th :S!!!!!!! but, I think the wait will be worth... If you liked it I'm sure that I'm going to LOVE it, so, glad it was better than LWW..
IM GUNNA SEE IT IN LIKE!!!! 3 HOURS!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH sorry, ive been freaking out all day!! i cant control my excitment!!
Glad you liked it, Brian! It means I'll probably I'll like it, too. LWW was my favorite movie (even better than LotR in my opinion), so PC will more than likely be my next favorite movie! ^^V
Unfortunately, we have to wait until June 24th to see it in Ireland, which sucks. I'm really angry at it! Glad u enjoyed it Gpuddle! I know how much effort you have put into these videos, and I'm kinda sad it's all coming to an end now. I hope you Do something like this for VOTDT!!
I'm excited...but none of my other friends want to go with me. :( Alas, I have to wait to see it or see it alone. LAME! It looks like they went more of a LOTR route then the book, or am I crazy? Like they deliberately made it look more like Rings.
i'd say that all the intense narnia fans are going today so i'm gonna hold off til the weekend. can't go tomorrow because of a jazz showcase i'm in (drums!). so i'm going sunday. can't wait! i don't think i'll be as critical as you but still critical. you think it's good, i'll think it's great, people who aren't critical at all will think it's bloody amazing. either way, i don't think anyone will be able to really say this is a bad film.
I'm seeing it at 12:30 in DLP! Woot! oh, and my Dad and I thought LWW was absolutly the greatest film ever. The execution scene made him cry, and movies don't do that often. In my mind LWW did everything it needed to and more, and the statue scene while rushed was still good.
the bear did actually put its paws in its mouth during the Miraz, Peter fight watch in the background

Both Narnia movies, i think, were really well done and great.
jeepman91 3 years ago
wen they make books into movies they sometimes have to add more coz the movies too short.
dashindayna123 3 years ago
The first one was much better. Only Disney can screw up a movie with romance.
And they didn't follow the book at all.
