dood...im sorry man.....but when i heard you say that the drive doesnt stay closed and then actually watching it open and close like that i just busted out laughing!!! lol im sorry but out of ALL of the problems that an xbox360 has and it does that...lol....if it makes you feel better one of my spare 360s drive doesnt respond at all lol
The problem with this drive is: The drive can't really close itself, and for safety of the components like the motor or the belt. it will open itself again. cuz it may be blocked by something
To fix this is to remove the belt and clean it and put it back in or take a close look to that mechanism if it still wont work.
Whats wrong is that after you close the tray the piece holding the lazer and the disc spinner isn't poping up to read it or try to play the disc so the tray decides to open again not finding the lazer
my cousin had this problem. he would just hit the xbox when the tray was closed and the light was flashing. this would fix that for him but i am unaware if that will fix yours as well.

its the small rubber band that opens the tray. Its dusty and is slipping on the wheel (weird squiky noize you hear). Remove front cover, open tray, take couple of pincers and remove the rubber band. some light is handy. Wash rubber band with alchol or something like it. Let dry. Put rubber band back with pincers. First on small wheel, than on big wheel. Now the problem is gone for a couple of weeks.
Remove the front cover of the xbox. Open the disk tray. Take a couple of pincers and remove the rubber band. Then i washed it with some alcohol and dried it. I put the rubber band back with the pincers. First around the small wheel, then the big wheel. Put the front back on and the problem should be gone for a couple of weeks. Then you have to do it again.

just buy a new dvd drive m8 and swap the firmware bord frm the old 1 to the new 1 make shure its the same drive as the old 1 aka samsung hatachi ben-q r watever and that shud fix it however if the firmware bordi broken you will need your new drive flashed this can b a pain if you dont no how to do this i wud get pro to do this
if you place your finger on the optical head when the disc bay closes, what will happen? If the light tries to shine and the disc (if there was one there) spins for a split second, that would mean that the head is not coming up enough to meet the cd. That should mean that there is either a spring or a motor problem located under the optical head...I would think. I'm having a very similiar problem with a DVD burner. I'll let you know what I find.
Peel off the label on the top of the drive. There will be a plastic disc covering the magnet. Heat the disc with a hair drier, then use a knife to pry it out. Lift the magnet straight up.
@DWells55 Do you have any idea where I can get one of those plastic pieces attached to the magnet? What happened was I didn't have the tool to remove the piece, so I tried to remove it by hand and, it kinda broke lol, pretty stupid thing to do I know lol. The drive works fine, but I'm just kinda worried that sooner or later it may cause some damage to either a disk or the drive itself.
@xXxLAMBOFGOD12xXx Your best bet would be to check out the xbox-scene forums and go to their B/S/T (buy/sell/trade) section and put in a want to buy request for one. I'm sure there will be someone who has one.
hey buddie i believe the problem is something to do with your drive belt. the squeek is it somehow rubbing on itself. not entirely sure how to fix it but from knowing the problem u may be able to look over it.
when it says opening hit the top of your xbox usually upon doing that the xbox will open if that doesnt work maybe its a internal error and taking it about and looking at it may help
So the 360 suffers from the RROD, E74, Disk tray problems, Power brick failures........ Microsoft sure has hosed the public with this peice of trash, lol. Great games, shitty system.
my xbox just got the e74 one red light one how can i fix it my self so i dont have to spend a hundred to repair it i got another way to get one for free but if i can do it myself ill do it
On the bottom of the tray there are small plastic stops that tell the drive its fully closed. if they are broke or bent outward( from pulling on tray) they will make the tray eject automaticly. simply bent the plastic stops.

Free Energy is real but the coverup is strong, if you are interested in a REAL free energy machine then
just search for the LT MAGNET MOTOR in the youtube video search , it is probably the ONLY working magnet
motor out there. Join the free energy revolution!!

maybe the track/gears are off and the xbox thinks that the drive is not closed all the way. that could have been caused by dropping it.

its in mode b flash your drive
gunter999255 3 years ago
Nope, I updated the description a while ago describing the fix.
Also, Mode B only lasts as long as the system is powered on. So power cycling it would've fixed the problem.
DWells55 3 years ago
Check to see if the plastic arm that raises the laser mechanism broke or got misaligned.
If it is not that, extract the key and flash it in another drive to make your life easy.
