Kris is my hero from my teenage years. I saw him live in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1974 (with Rita) and he was just wonderful. Such an amazing poet... I would love him to come back here.
THIS MAN IS PURE GENIUS,RHODES SCHOLAR,FLEW CHOPPERS,DAD TAUGHT LITERATURE AT THE POINT.HE IS A WALKING CONTRADICTION.LISTEN TO THE WORDS.........FROM THE ROCKIN OF THE CRADLE TO THE ROLLIN OF THE HEARSE,THE GOING UP HAS BEEN WORTH THE COMING DOWN.....ABSOLUTE GENIUS
Love this. Reminds me of seeing him in Bakersfield. Absolutely spellbinding. I think I even enjoy the solo Kris of today more than I did the earlier years with his whole group. Just Kris, a guitar, and harmonica...it just doesn't get any better than that.
I like this way of performing.....a small support staff...no big band....no flashy lights....no stage dangers.....just good honest music. And the ticket prices can be more reasonable this way.
there may be better guitar pickers than him and there may be better singers than him, but as soon as he starts singing, he's got me by the guts. With every fuckin song he sings
He is without a doubt the best songwriter EVER. Can't sing for shit...but that makes you love him. Aside from the writing talent..he's just one of us sobs.
@kenmackie Bob? Who the fuck is Bob? Surely not that inarticulate retard Bob Dylan? And the only Neil ever worth a listen was Mr. Diamond. I guess you should apologize to Willie for putting him in a retard sandwich with that statement.
@kenmackie Sorry, I didn't realize that we were going to talk about every other fucking singer in the world. Yes, Willie can sing. Bob sounds like a dying mule. Neil is just another shouter, but entertaining. Janis rocked. Waylon sounded like an angel. Rablin Jack Elliot was fun to listen to. Hank Sr, well, was Hank Sr. Hank Jr can freaking sing. Do I really need to mention them all, or can I just comment on Kris? I mean, since its a Kris video.....?
The sob can't sing and he can't play the guitar but he's written some of the best songs ever written and I've gone to see him 3 times. What a talent!!!
that makes my heart sad to hear you say that about the singing...his style is perfectly suited to many peoples taste .. I love to hear him sing, for hours me and my husband listen , his pitch is impeckable,,,, did I spell that right? His timing is hauntingly correct,,, his music is so good it sends sparks down my spine.....his lyrics are my inspiration when I write, I could only dream of being so clever. I don't mean to offend you ,,, I just had to rebut,,,,,, :)
Hey, you didn't offend me. I love him. Have seen him in person 3 times. That gravely voice he has always had works even better in his old age. But I still say he can't sing or play the guitar. Doesn't mean he's not a great entertainer......
Born in June 1936....he has been around a while....I like a low budget performer who doesnt have to take a band or ...just an acoustic guitar. Europe stil loves him.
Rhodes scholar, Capt. and helicopter pilot in the USArmy, when he opted out of the army, they offered him a position as Professor of English Lit @ West Point. Thank God he turned them down and continued writting some of the best country songs ever!
I agree. It would have turned out much better had it not been so windy and cold. By this point in the show, I was shivering so bad that I could barely hold the camera. I actually dropped it half-way through "Me and Bobby McGee". I was soooo pissed.
a correction mr "lewspade"....Mr Kristofferson is the "Greatest" songwriter of our times, the prior being "psalms" by "david" No one would have ever heard of many "singers's" (ie Janis Joplin) if Kris Kristofferson tweren't around.
Janis Joplin was famous while Kris was still flying fighter-jets over 'Nam. His greatness as a writer, though, has certainly helped many known/unknown singers for many years. Certainly, the greatest country writer of the modern era!
Which he spent like they was goin outa style-- And he keeps right on achangin for the better or the worse, Searchin for a shrine hes never found-- Never knowin if believin is a blessin or a curse, Or if the goin up was worth the comin down-- Chorus: Hes a poet, hes a picker-- Hes a prophet, hes a pusher-- Hes a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when hes stoned-- Hes a walkin contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction, Takin evry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.
The first time I heard Kris sing was like 15 years ago when they played the isle of wight concert(1970)on tv and he was heckled off the stage. Well those idiots didn't know what they were missing. Kris is a great song writer, thanks for posting this video
A friend of mine attended the Live 8 concert a few years back in Toronto. He was in line waiting to get a beer when he heard someone say "Boy, did he ever butcher Janis Joplin's song!!" LOL!
Kris Kristofferson is pure class. This man is like a rock, and he is so fit! 72 years, but he looks and sings like 20 years younger, for my opinion! I saw him in concert this July. It was like I met an old friend!! He likes his fans and he lets them know!
Arguably, one of the greatest songwriters ever, I admire but don't get overcome with his singings but the words are fantastic. Enjoyed him in the movie CONVOY.
I rank him amoung my all time favourite singer/songwriters, along with Lightfoot, John Prine, Arlo Guthrie, Dylan, and Willie P bennett. His early albums were superb. Saw him in the 70's and am going to see him again this august. Can't wait. His lastest album with the song this old road sounds like his old stuff.
Among others, yes. Here's the opening spoken part of this song from the album it first appeared on ("The Silver Tongued Devil and I"): "I started writin' this song about Chris Gantry, ended up writin' about Dennis Hopper, 'n' Johnny Cash, 'n' Norman Norbert, Funky Donny Fritz, Dudley Swan, Bobby Neworth, Jerry Jeff Walker 'n' Paul Segal. Ramblin' Jack Elliot had a lot to do with it."

I fell in love with Kris when I was just twelve or thirteen. At almost 50 I just love to watch and listen to him sing. Thank you for sharing your videos. I saw him in Iowa 2 years ago. They were very vigilante about no cameras or video taping. I am so glad some one could. I enjoyed this concert as much or more than any others I have seen of him. Thank you again.
I'll be seeing him Easter Sunday night in Killarney, Ireland. He's on a European tour at the moment. Just can't wait!!!Have seen him every Irish tour, and he just gets better with age.

I can totally relate to that. I was right up front and when I wasn't videotaping, I just sat there in awe with my face in my hands. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was brought to tears more than once that night.
Great songwriter and great voice. He won a poem contest in class when he was a kid. he won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and could have made 4th place too but they didnt want him to win them all lol. Something like that.
