i just watched this video on video music box on saturday and had to watch it again. i"ll take doug e fresh leather suit for some skinny jeans ANYDAY.Support this man and this chicken and waffles spot in harlem...peace
I was like 7 when this came out and it was and still is on point, good music for real. I just had to school this old head on where the Dougie dance came from. There is a video on here of Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air dancing to Teach Me How To Dougie and it says that is where the Dougie Originated, LMAO.
@Realnaijaqueen I know that my generation wouldnt be anything without people like doug e fresh, dr. dre, ice cube, nwa, slick rick, run dmc, notorious b.i.g., tupac, or any other rap legend, if they never rapped i dont know wat music would be like today
The Dougie didn't start in Dallas, Texas...it originated right here with the real Doug E. Fresh. Everything else is just a spin-off. Give credit where credit is due.
Today's "rappers" need to take more notes from joints like this from back in the day! Notice how the lyrics flow so effortlessly with the music, and how the beat is so on point and makes you want to actually DANCE! These were the good ole days of hip hop! (Sigh) Nas is right.......!!
@Realnaijaqueen LOL, well I guess everything goes around and comes back around in another form. I saw a video with MJ's moonwalk in the 1930's but it was somewhat different.
@Realnaijaqueen And our sample generation is? When this song came out my dad was like... who the hell is this dude remaking Keni Burke and Heatwave? lol There is nothing new under the sun... let the kids have there fun!
@ednoroirika Yeah every day it amazes me how nothing is really new. Some artists are good at adding their creative touch and making it their own while others can't do it.
@ednoroirika I guess your Dad, like many, didn't know that sampling has existed for a long time - and while not all samplers use a turntable and sequencer, they are "sampling" (or in cases outright stealing), i.e., Elvis, The Beatles, and other white rock groups that sampled Black Musicians and didn't even credit them; Jazz musicians who when improvising, would use each others' riffs, and several others. The difference now is that much of today's music is mind-numbing, imbecilic, minstrel drivel
@itube612 He was no doubt on point, but then again, alot of rappers were hot back then! I'm tryin' to figure out what the hell happened to hip hop today!
@Orbot Technology is what changed hip hop, samplers, notably akai, became a centerpiece of the studio, hip hoppers and rappers jumped on the new kit, they most likely spent so long messing around with the sound and samples the raw nuts and bolts of hip hip - the beat and the lyrics took second place. This tune is '88, in '89 Jungle brothers released 'done by the forces of nature' the azimuth of all hip hop and technology. As you say, what happened after the 80's?
@bobadigilatis I'll say this is what happened after the 80s: a bunch of IG'NANT (pun intended) white execs and ig'nant non-white execs and their lackeys, started commercializing what was said to have started back in Central Park in the 70s(which actually has roots in ancient times, but that's another discussion entirely), and they diluted it, distorted it, and mutated it into the garbage that pollutes the airwaves today. At the same time, they locked out and ex-communicated the originators.
When Dougie E Fresh asked me to Choreograph this video at the World in NYC I had no idea how that was going to happen. Two days later Lionel C Martin the director called me & asked if I was available to choreograph a video for Dougie. This was my first choreography job as a teenager I had no prior experience just a great desire to freestyle. None of the dancers I hired showed up so I had to work with the extras to get the crowd moving. Glad people still doing The Dougie!
@invincibleironman3 I don't mean the dance, I mean where it originated from. Look at the comment I responded to and the comment he was responding to. You'll get what I mean. I'm not referring to people who grew up with it. I don't know who Drew Stanton is but I'm afraid that if I do learn who he is it will further illustrate my point. Heck, even some people who know who Doug is or those who only know him as "beatbox guy" don't know about his signature dance.
