My pit bull, cookie is the best dog ever. My cat sleep wither her, my other dogs sleep inside, anyways, one of my cats was eating a mouse he caught and two raccoons cornered him. Bella cam and grabbed one by the neck and shook it to death, the next one she flung across the yard so hard it cracked the fence. She made sure he was ok and won't ket anything touch our cats but us. Haha nothing that comes into our yard with intent to hurt our kitties don't come back out!

My cat Cupcake was an outdoor cat. She use to walk me and my sisters to school. Yes, it sounds really weird. Anyways, I remember one time this vicious husky (who would always bark when anyone walked near it) got over the fence (yes it literally hoisted itself over, it was fucking scary) and came at me one day when I was walking home from school. My cat was actually there and within seconds had swiped a chunk of its nose off and scared it off. I felt protected as a child because of her. :(

Raccoons have a personality similar to a bear's They are more curious and are just lumbering around for food. Cats are more aggressive and will always readily attack, but in the end, a raccoon will most likely dominate a cat because in addition, the average coon is larger than the average house cat.

rivver60, thanks for the comment. You are probably right. Raccoons get nasty in two situations, between themselves and when cornered. The cat would never have attacked if their positions were reversed and the raccoon was in the corner. The cat is clearly aware that the raccoon had an easy escape. Also with in 2 minutes Rocky was back to finish eating. Put a cat and a raccoon in a cage and I would not want to be the cat! dst

@comdst - it depends on the size of the raccoon and the size of the cat... also if it is an "outdoor" cat which is used to defending itself. If they are the same size and it's an outdoor cat it could go either way. An indoor cat who is coddled by it's owners would probably get torn up.
