Those who were complaining that they weren't getting help need to learn from the majority of louisianians who were helping themselves and their neighbors during that crisis instead of complaining. My wife was alone in our house because I was helping others and even though her and all my neighbors were completely blocked by fallen trees and could not leave their neighborhood, They all got together, cleared nearly 20 trees and invited everyone to homes with generators.

Her house went up to the roof line. And you are wrong about uptown not having water to the roof line. Earhart blvd (which is poor and Uptown) had water to the roof line.

Uptown technically goes all the way up to I-10 and Carrolton, and actually there are 900-1200 square ft homes right next to where uptown square was. Hell I used to walk from audubon park to earhart blvd for work every day, so it isn't that far. Only 2.11 miles. mapquest it. It just looks far. Denver is ok i guess. Red Cross helped us out after the Hurricane. I lost my job due to the storm

My job was in new Orleans east and it was destroyed so after the storm, since my house was flooded, and it was too crowded in my parent's home we decided to temporarily stay in colorado. I use to ski here. We were in a hotel for 4 months. Red cross gave us clothes and food. And the hotel let my wife and I and 3 golden retrievers stay for free the whole time. I got a job here with DHS soon afterwards. Only problem about here is NO SEAFOOD AND NO POBOYS!!!! I WANT MY HOT SAUSAGE!!! WAAAAAA!

I have never evacuated from any hurricane that hit New Orleans and the worse flood I have ever seen in New Orleans is one that slightly went over cars, not houses. That is why most homes are raised. I am a proud Lousiana Native and Though I live in Colorado for work, my heart will always be there. I travel all over the country and everywhere else is boring when compared against the Southern Louisiana Culture

You are correct. The Nagin is one of New Orlean's best mayors even though I disagree with his "Chocolate city" comment. He cleaned up New Orleans. He was responsible for getting rid of most of those projects and cleaned up some of the bad politics.
She failed to do so. It is the governor of every state that make the call on whether or not to dispach the National Guard, not the president. If she would have dispatched them when the Mayor was screeming for help, a lot less people would have died.
Plus, those who try to blame Bush for problems with Katrina needs to look at the Democratic Govenor in office during the Hurricane. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco who was the govenor at the time had the full authority to send the national guard to help those at the convention center and superdome.
I was in New Orleans During Katrina and did not evacuate. I was a reserve Jefferson parrish officer on duty helping those trapped in their homes during Katrina. I know personally that Bobby Jindal was in Baton Rouge at the time coordinating the rescue effort and Harry Lee was in Jefferson parrish doing the same. Those who say otherwise were not there. As far as Jindal's work as govenor, He has been the best govenor Louisiana has had in a long time.

The ground here in Louisiana is old compacted sediment from the river flooding and is thus not very dense. Being a very "water rich" environment, subsidence occurs even faster.
The area is sinking. How do you think the levee heights "sunk" ?

2 - 3 months before Katrina, investigators concluded and the local news wrote a story about the coastal area of Louisiana and the levees of New Orleans. The report basically said that the coastal area of Lousiana was considerably eroded over time and that a hit would be significant. They also said that at the time they were built, the levees would only withstand a level 3 hurricane; however, they said that after erosion, the levees could now only withstand a level 2 or lower.

"Katrina" lasted longer than one day. "During Katrina" could mean anything from the day the storm hit, to when the levies failed, to the days and weeks of search and rescue efforts. Besides that, Jindal NEVER tried to take credit for the Sheriff's decision, he merely applauded the decision and derided bureaucracy. Oh, but I forget, liberals love bureaucracy.

Here is a funny thing. Those who were complaining that they weren't getting help need to learn from the majority of louisianians who were helping themselves and their neighbors during that crisis instead of complaining. My wife was alone in our house because I was helping others and even though her and all my neighbors were completely blocked by fallen trees and could not leave their neighborhood, They all got together, cleared nearly 20 trees and invited everyone to homes with generators.

Of course, you were uptown and lucky not to have the water we took and to even HAVE generators
-- unlike uptown, the people in central city, gentilly and New Orleans east had water up to the rafters
My house was in Gentilly, right off Elysian Fields - where everyone's generator got drowned
You also can't clear trees without power tools
I'm sure they helped uptown right quick - as usual

lol you think the neighborhood had city Help!!! wrong. It was the neighbors who cleared the trees NOT the city or government. People got out chainsaws and pickup trucks and cut the trees and dragged the cuttings to the curb so traffic can flow. They did not wait for Help. They help themselves

I know that uptown didn't have city help -- though it has in the past
But come on, you know as well as I do how much wealthier and better prepared uptown is -- especially around the park where you and all the bluebloods lived
Not to mention how Uptown took on A LOT less water than the rest of the city. You guys weren't stranded on your rooftops like my nieghbors were. THEIR chainsaws and pickup trucks were DROWNED and even the curb wasn't out from under the water for 3 weeks in Gentilly.

I got news for you, Not all home uptown are wealthy or even middle class. My house was a 1200 square foot home. There are a lot of lower class uptown. We are just over shadowed by the large neighborhoods. Not to mention that my entire family lives all over southern louisiana. My mother-in-law lost her house in Slidell. Her house went up to the roof line. And you are wrong about uptown not having water to the roof line. Earhart blvd (which is poor and Uptown) had water to the roof line.

I know that too, I once lived in a cheap apartment right on St Charles ave, by De Le Salle.
Earhart blvd? Please... no one really considers that Uptown, though it technically is. Hell, I think most people don't really consider anything north of Claiborne as part of Uptown. And Earhart is still pretty far away from the area around Audubon park, where you were living.
So, you're in Denver now, huh? How's that? Red Cross helped to put me up in Portland Oregon after the storm.

I went to school at De La Salle, which I hated and decided to go to McMain instead. Yes Earhart is Uptown. Uptown technically goes all the way up to I-10 and Carrolton, and actually there are 900-1200 square ft homes right next to where uptown square was. Hell I used to walk from audubon park to earhart blvd for work every day, so it isn't that far. Only 2.11 miles. mapquest it. It just looks far. Denver is ok i guess. Red Cross helped us out after the Hurricane. I lost my job due to the storm

I went to Brother Martin and we whipped DeLa Salle butt. My mom taught french at Mercy Academy by Holy Name and then she taught at Cabrini (I always liked the girls at Cabrini WAY better)
Yeah, can't say enough about the Red Cross. Portland is a great town. I wish I could have stayed up there, but my dad had a stroke and I'm the only sibling without kids so I had to come back and take care of him.
NOLA's not the same - don't think it ever will be.

My job was in new Orleans east and it was destroyed so after the storm, since my house was flooded, and it was too crowded in my parent's home we decided to temporarily stay in colorado. I use to ski here. We were in a hotel for 4 months. Red cross gave us clothes and food. And the hotel let my wife and I and 3 golden retrievers stay for free the whole time. I got a job here with DHS soon afterwards. Only problem about here is NO SEAFOOD AND NO POBOYS!!!! I WANT MY HOT SAUSAGE!!! WAAAAAA!

My house and business was destroyed, but I was stupid and under insured. Hey man, you know how to cook? Think about opening a little cajun type restuarant up there -- call it Vic n' Natlie's or something. the seafood would be frozen but the people up there would love it way more than Long John Silvers

By the way, from broadway & st charles to Earhart blvd is only 26 blocks. Count them. Hell Notre Dame and St. Mary's Dominican high school (as yuppy and uptown as a high school can get) in only 4 blocks away from earhart. My sister went there. (yes she is a yuppy). I should have been raised in harahan by the way i was. I was trash to my sister's friends...lol

I have never evacuated from any hurricane that hit New Orleans and the worse flood I have ever seen in New Orleans is one that slightly went over cars, not houses. That is why most homes are raised. I am a proud Lousiana Native and Though I live in Colorado for work, my heart will always be there. I travel all over the country and everywhere else is boring when compared against the Southern Louisiana Culture

The original location of "New Orleans" (the French Quarter) is Above sea level. Here are some more educational facts. It wasn't Katrina that flooded New Orleans the way that it did. It was the lake and the broken levees.

another thing that gets to me is that they showed only the black people at the convention center. What they didn't show are the hundrends of white people who were there as well. I know they were there because some of my relatives were there.

You are correct. The Nagin is one of New Orlean's best mayors even though I disagree with his "Chocolate city" comment. He cleaned up New Orleans. He was responsible for getting rid of most of those projects and cleaned up some of the bad politics.

She failed to do so. It is the governor of every state that make the call on whether or not to dispach the National Guard, not the president. If she would have dispatched them when the Mayor was screeming for help, a lot less people would have died.

Plus, those who try to blame Bush for problems with Katrina needs to look at the Democratic Govenor in office during the Hurricane. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco who was the govenor at the time had the full authority to send the national guard to help those at the convention center and superdome.

I was in New Orleans During Katrina and did not evacuate. I was a reserve Jefferson parrish officer on duty helping those trapped in their homes during Katrina. I know personally that Bobby Jindal was in Baton Rouge at the time coordinating the rescue effort and Harry Lee was in Jefferson parrish doing the same. Those who say otherwise were not there. As far as Jindal's work as govenor, He has been the best govenor Louisiana has had in a long time.

And there it is the one thing you dont hear about is the Governor and I use that term loosely when I refer to kathleen. Nagin gets a bad rap and he was actually a decent Mayor until the chaos of katrina overloaded his circuits and he lost touch with his sanity.

Its the governments responsibility to serve its citizens. If the government doesnt care about the citizens and doesnt act in the citizens best interests, then it serves no purpose, and we're paying them tax dollars to do nothing.
