for me,a 43 year old with musical interests ranging through skinhead/punk(cockney rejects, joy division etc),ska/mod(madness,who,jam etc),rock(led zep, pink floyd etc),folk/country(johnny cash, dylan etc) and many other classic performers(beatles, stone roses, buddy holly etc), i consider this piece(the ninth) to simply be the finest music i have ever heard.
I have a very eclectic taste in music , but this must surely top the list of human artistic achievment. I think we decieve ourselves if we think that (technical inventions aside) we have surpassed or even equaled this .
Oh yes - what a complete joy to watch Bernstein - his level of energy - simply amazing. I wasn't aware that different conductors conduct this symphony differently until I listened to about four different conductors. For example - the last little part of the ending with the flutes - some conductors do something a little differently with the flute riff at the very end – emphasis on the flute riff as Bernstein or almost whispering rather flat flutes. Of course, I prefer the emphatic flutes.

This music just cheered me so much that I recovered from being sick. It just inspired me and gave me strength and I know that I will be strong.

Checkmate...
William Steinberg conducted the Beethoven 9th finale at a breakneck speed, faster than any version I've seen or heard.
The ARTS network, which airs free in some cable systems, often airs the performance, and it's a wow!

The piece has an identification at its end.
I think it is Vienna.

will it be that somebody can raise the part that it lacks of the fourth movement of this version of the ninth symphony?
rodrigoperez16 1 year ago
Yes, Aimer196, it is quite superb. Bernstein was at his best here, along with the orchestra and soloists.
