Festivals like these were one of the first reason I got sucked into the beautiful culture of Japan. The ones here in Chicago don't stand up at all to them; except the Taste of Chicago, which is overcrowded always on the hottest days and expensive :\.
Thanks for another slice of the paradise that is Japan Jenn!
はじめまして。 I was watching some videos of Arashi and ended up here after watching all of your videos at once (well that sounds creepy or at least strange, ne?). And now I am hardly thinking of subscribing to your channel because I like the way you are and the way you present Japan. Actually I am learning japanese and have been curious when you decided to leave America and go to Japan and how long it took to learn the language. Imho your japanese is really really good. よろしく ね。
One thing I've noticed about "traditional" or "folk" music is that no matter what part of the world it's from, it tends to feature clapping and/or slapping as an element. That was fun, nice job covering the festival!
nihonjenn, what type of camera are you using? I notice the fireworks picked up really well on it. I ask because my camera is from 2004... so it's a regular dinosaur ; ) and I'm in the market for a replacement. The need isn't dire at the moment, but I'm trying to ask around...
Who were the the people that I heard speaking English, during the fireworks? The festival---parade, things for sale, eating, fireworks---looked like I would have really enjoyed it, btw.
Very nice festival apart form the Manikins, this isn't the february festival when your supposed to acare the little kids LOL. Also noticed the jvlog symbol :D
Forgive me for asking such a boring question but can you tell me what camera you used. The quality of the evening shots is superb; the colors of the hanabi is very well defined. While I'm at at: please let me also know what software, etc you use for editing your videos. Thanks, Richard from Oregon.
Jenn-san, I was curious. Did you happen to see any other gaijin from America or Europe or Australia at Matsuri? Moreover, how often do you see other foreigners in your town on a day to day basis? By the way, it looked like a wonderful time. Hope you had fun! :)
@countumga Yes, other ALTs came from different areas. Of course I know all of them so it was nice to hang out. I never see other foreigners in my town though, unless I bring them.
LOL, the very begining was like the movie 'children of the corn'. It's funny how peoples reaction to fireworks is such a universal language. Oohhh...aaahhh!
I absolutely love summertime festivals in Japan. We have so many of them here it's fantastic. I will have to get some video of them when I go too! Sadly, however, I have not been to any yet.
lol Those mannequins are terrifying!! lol And the costumed dancers were pretty funny :) Thanks for showing us this!! My first host family participates in their town's fall festival every year and showed me a lot of pictures of it :) I wanted to see what a festival was like!! So thanks :)
It looked like it would be soon raining - luckily it didn't rain during the matsuri! Could you join a group? I hope to see you one day as a member of the parade wearing a yukata!
By the way I was hungry after having watched your video!
@nihonjenn Thats good that you know everyone and the town is small! because being some where like that alone could be kinda sad at least i think so. I guess there are not many foreign peoples there neither so you probably stick out like a sore thumb(=
Holy funny costumes. Nothing says classy like a homemade Power Rangers costume. Did you try and get pictures with them? Nice turnout and looked like it was a lot of fun. The music in parade reminded me of festival we had here. Another great "Hokkaido Fox" production -_^
I guess Hokkaido is the place to be during the summer time. I saw people wearing jackets, so I'm assuming it's not scorching hot and humid like it is down south.
@rossexton I had a blast~! Seriously, the festivals are so much fun, a mix of food, fun, and friends. I love experiencing the traditional aspects of Japanese culture at these events too, such as the dances. And well... that yellow ranger... haha I've introduced her to western style food and now she can't stop eating! Good thing though... Japanese girls are TOO skinny. :P hehe
i was just about to say "those manicans will give you nightmares" and then you said it!!! haha! does the pink ranger know she's about to get eaten by jaws? the food is the best part of any festival... anywhere in the world!! looks like you had a blast!! thanks for sharing! ^_^ OMG!!! stay classy!!! LOVE! maybe i should start saying "thanks for dropping by!"
@hoosierhana It's a mind meld we have going here Shanyn haha. ;) I tried to warn her ya know... but she didn't heed my words. I'm not exactly sure if she made it out alive... :( I have a total blast. (I always eat too much though haha!) You should definitely get yourself a catch phrase. :)
Nice and interesting video! Haha Dancing power rangers! Your town looks so beautiful and serene.Ugh you made me hungry for fresh takoyaki and all I can get are the frozen ones which aren't so good or drive an hour away. >.<
