  • hi, do you need phantom power for this mic?

  • 18 pounds is what in dollars?

  • About 36 dollars. Yes, the UK has pwned us in money. Feel the burn.

  • thank you!

  • hmmm... around 25 to 30 dollars I think would be about accurate.

  • Comment removed

  • Just double it, so it would be about $36 or more

  • Awesome! :D

  • i really need to get one of those pop screens...wondering what kind of store would sell them - us btw

  • you can get a pop shield from Guitar Center, or online you can get them on Musicians Friend. Some local shops may have them as well.

  • Oh wow, I really never know what pop screens actually DID, so this was quite informative!

  • Really great video. I never knew what those were for. I'm learning quite a bit from this channel.

  • not liking harry potter...? OH NO!

well i don't know any of the info either.. but it's fun to learn.

  • Great tutorial Paul. This is really shaping up to be a great channel.

I used to have a regular radio show in college (theme was video-game music / remixes), and we were all about our pop shields.

    ~ Jethro.

  • You mean you're NOT supposed to use a pop shield as a coaster? Oh darn.

  • haha That was a good video, Paul.

    -Julian

  • I use a sock or some nylons for my homemade pop screen

  • I've got a couple of them.

  • i am digging this nightmare before christmas poster in the back.

  • Once my family and I move house (early October) I'm planning on getting a bigger one for my wall. At the moment, we rent so I have to make do with a tiny one on the drawers :(

  • oOoOo. well I can't wait to see that one :] Good luck with moving! I know it can be brutal.

  • Hahaaa nice alternative uses you cooked up :P Great first vid, Paul! :-)

  • i'm already learning stuffz...i had seen pop shields before but had no idea what they were for. now i know :)

  • well now I had no idea I could use a pop shield for a fly swatter. See, Paul... you DO know your shit. :)

Great video, It's cool to know there are different types and styles to that breed of microphone... sometimes you sing into the front, sometimes the top.

  • Words of wisdom :D I will not use your pop shield as a coaster in the future.

  • U look like Simon Pegg

  • err... Thanks? :P

I must say, being likened to Simon Pegg is a little more flattering than being likened to Rowan Atkinson, which is a comment I used to get quite regularly...

  • having just read that I can see the Atkinson XD

  • OOOOH! So THAT'S what a pop shield is for. :)

  • You could make a popshield out of Coat Hangers and Tights if you didn't want to shell out for the expense ...

Thanks my wisdom for today - *Fangirls* I SPEAK TO YOU ON BLOGTV ... lol

  • When are you next going on blogtv ?

    ~Francesca

  • Ill be chatting tonight im sure, and Live tomorrow xD

  • Pop shield rock... just make sure when recording with friends that you don't end up hitting each other with them :)

  • I got all confused when I bought my pop sheild and ended up buying one about 10 inches too big =S

    Great video Paul =D

  • Damn, we're fast covering all the things you can possibly say about microphones - there's not much left to say in my video, let alone poor JB and Raven xD

I just hope I can cast my mind back to the half term of Music Tech AS Level that I did 4 years ago xD

  • I'm sure you, JB and Raven can think of something - you don't HAVE to talk about mics.

  • Aaah your guys' intro is jazzy.

Best "what could you do with a pop shield!" video ever.

  • Your eyes totally freaked me out when you said "Cue intro!"

Love your OurMixTap intro pic, by the way. But I do hope that wasn't one of OUR tapes. :)

Aha, now I see what the penguin thing was all about. That makes sense.

    Awesome video, short stuff.

    xox

  • Great video =)

When I frst saw that pop-shield thing i was fairly convinced that it was a giant fly-swat . . .

  • We should have used it on the evil bug on the lounge window yesterday. . .

  • if you cant afford the ten pounds for a pop shield

tights pulled over a wire coat hanger bent intoa circle!

i recorded with the same guy that recorded tom jones ( you can leave you hat on) .. and he stil had one incase he ever needed it

  • That's a top tip!

  • im full of them :P

    haha

  • Wait ... I gave this advice and Paul didn't comment me *cry*

  • Not liking Harry Potter!? Ö

Hmm I think I should get me one of those pop shields

  • That may be the best shocked-face emote ever :D

  • I love how everyone calls those things something different. JB had a diff name for them in my comments section, as did two other viewers. =) Nice demonstration though of the difference. Immediately sounded 100x's more pro with it.

  • Yeah, I tend to go with pop shield/screen and occasionally "windscreen" (though that's a car part, so it seems odd).

  • It is actually kind of bizarre how quickly you have gained such a large following on youtube.

Did you by chance seel your soul for this?

  • Believe me, no-one is as shocked by my success as I am. I'm still flattered to be involved in this channel - but I would have gladly sold my soul as well ;)

  • Nice I love this new channel. I've been playing guitar, only for 6months, but I really wanna get good. Glad you made this channel!

  • Not liking Harry Potter? Who are you?

  • I've pratically built my YouTube career on not liking Harry Potter. This shouldn't be news to anyone :P

  • I REFUSE TO KNOW YOU. haha

  • First!

  • Aw man, beaten to first on my own video :(

  • first

  • sorry, always wanted to do that
