Just for your information, Rhydian's second album sold more than Faryl and Paul's second albums. Rhydian's was 6th best selling classical album for 2009, while Faryl's was only 18th.

Well,one year on, RHydian(nov release) has sold 600,000+ albums, fastest selling debut album for 2008,a second album is in the making and his 2009 SOLO tour is sold out. Leon(Oct. release&discounted in 3weeks) sold 100,000 albums got dropped by label.His tour didn't sell, got cancelled and re-sold as SameDiff&Leon JOINT, that didn't sell so got cancelled. SD sold 100,000 albums (like Leon, lol) and got dropped AFTER him.

Multiple, nationalistic votes don't equate to sales, that's clear from XF4! A sob story can only take you so far (and in Leon's case out of the Top 40 in singles and albums within 4 weeks. Totally unprecendented failure from an X factor 'winner'). TRUE talent will out...and we will see in the week commencing 24/11/08 what REAL talent XF4 unearthed. And it wasn't the 'winner'....

Rhydian is very versatile, which will get him far in music. He even pulled off Pink without making it into too much of a gimmick! Leon - he has a fair enough voice but it shouldn't have won him the title.

The difference between Leona and Rhydian is that Leona is confined to only ONE style of singing, whereas Rhydian can do ANYTHING. His training as a classical opera singer allows him the technique to interpret properly any music.

Is their anything special about actually winning the show these days? Rhydian has got the same record deal as winner Leon Jackson. Last year, Ray Quinn and Ben Mills both got contracts. Don't know if Sony BMG will allow Rhydian to star in The Phantom of the Opera, but if they do, he will have come out with alot more than Leon, even though he was only the runner-up.

schp. The way Rhydian's deal is structured has not been reported. I can't recall any X Factor/BMG deals being detailed out.

A record deal mean no up-front money for the artist, the lot going to production and marketing. This used to be typical indie practice, for today I don't know. In theory all the up-front money can go to the singer, the company having to recoup its costs on sales. I would be surprised if that has happened...

It's the music biz, even £1 million can be quasi-fantasy.

Indeed! I always thought it was a bit of mad scheme... the artist ends up paying for the marketing, recording and promotion of the album our of his royalties. He might have been better off turning down all the contracts offered, and getting investment into a record company of his own, as many other artists are doing now! :)
