The Americans did not rely on tanks to win its battles. It used its Air Force to pound the enemy army to destruction. It had thousands of Aircraft to do it.
@HiPaZeRo You are misinformed. Like the german stuka the americans and british had aircraft dedicated to destroying german ground forces.They controlled the air in the later war years when they invaded western europe to evict the german forces.
T-34 had 1.5 inches of frontal armor sloped at 60 degrees to make it 3 inches of armor it was the first tank to incorporate sloping armor which is used on all modern tanks. The tanks also traveled at 35mph and had a high velocity 76 mm cannon.
The Sherman tank was not match for the German tanks even with a later upgrade to a 76mm gun it still could not stand toe to toe with the German tanks. Its only advantage was that it was made far more numbers then the Germans could kill. It wasn't till late in the war when the Pershing tank arrived did the Americans have a level playing field. although only 20 Pershing's saw service during the war.
@1ordequis Sherman tank was a medium class tank and never meant to stand toe to toe with any later 1943' German medium tank not in it's class like the Panther. Why are you comparing a 33.4 ton medium class tank introduced in 1942' to later generation german medium tank which weighed almost 49.4 tons and heavy class tanks like the Tiger ? It was more than a match against Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank which more over 8,800 produced were produced . The Pershing had no effect on US winning the war.
