  • The designer of the original Enterprise went to a convention and was asked to judge a 'starship building' model contest. He gave first prize to the guy who made the most unusual Federation starship because he said "That was the one guy who thought outside of the box and made something new. These other guys just copied and did the same thing." So Kudos for thinking outside of the box!

  • Looks sexy. Don't let Abrams near it.

  • She uses a High Frequency Virtual Subspace Wormhole Induction Drive, AKA Warphole Drive. Think ST:TMP wormhole VFX, only prettier. It means creating a fast succession of small wormhole-like phenomena to tunnel by. As many things Trek, it is suggested that subspace makes producing wormholes easier (as seen in ST:TMP). The "virtual" would mean that it is not quite a true wormhole, so travelling through them takes a bit of time. I rather bypass current canonical drives, they are such a mess.

  • "Mirror reflection set to maximum Captain!" :)

  • @beakz She's from the Mirror Finish Universe :D

  • very nice sleek design. warp 9.97? Or Trans-warp able? very agile :)

  • Immune to all weapons manufactured by ACME.

  • Meep Meep!

  • COOL SHIP DESIGN! REAL SLEEK!

  • Well, that one would make sense for a border patrol ship :D The Coyotes are Deep Recon/SpecOps/Emergencies Very Fast Scouts.

  • You commission a U.S.S. Tweety Bird and I'll be happy.

  • すばらしい!!

  • She'd look great among the stars, their light reflecting off of the hull

    Nice job

  • ACME products will never stop her.

  • The USS Coyote was the prototype.

  • @escifi Very cool ship design and industrial replicator design. Keep up the awesome videos.

  • So is there a USS Wiley Coyote?

  • You should see the names of the Ships in Iain Banks' Culture novels :D

The GSV Of Course I Still Love You, the GCU Just Testing, the LSV Serious Callers Only… and the infamous Gravitas series. USS Roadruner is… just… tame! :)

  • i like it but..... uss roadrunner? really!? guess i'm to nitpicky for my own good..... I thought the i.d. on the front of the ship was to big, mine as well put a "eat at joes" neon on the front of the ship. technically this was great, the shuttle pod was pretty cool too. doing a great job though.

  • The series' writers and science supervisors have to deal with this kind of thing: how to make the Federation not that powerful, for them to have to struggle against difficulty and produce drama.

The ST:TNG Technical Manual authors, Sternbach and Okuda, constantly point out such things. Sometimes they can't avoid inconsistencies, but in general they place interesting and reasonable limitations.

  • Uh, it just occurred to me when you mentioned "industrial replicator..."

Why doesn't the Federation have millions of ships? Couldn't they make one pretty quick with a replicator? TBH a ship is not significantly more complicated than an omelet if you're starting completely from scratch.

  • great to someone using imagination and effort to actually look forward in star trek instead of looking back to the yawn days of kirk and spock or the yawn post TNG era where some varient of enterprise e is ready to blow up some yawn alien outpost

  • beep beep

  • Yeah: although windows are an excellent scale indicator, the hulls not having them feel to me like more protective. Also, with Holodeck tech, you don't need them, really.

  • Unwindows?.

  • where do u get the programs to do that stuff

  • Very shiny! Shiny is good. Though the neck linking the top section with the stardrive seems too thin to really be structurally sound...even by the usual spindly standards of Federation ships. Any torc while that ship is maneuvering and it should just snap apart. And that long flat section extending from the back of the top section just makes it look all the more top heavy. It's more like two ships docking together rather than being a whole ship.

  • USS Roadrunner vs IKS Coyote. XD

  • Future Era? Looks more like the alternate timeline.

  • A Federation Starship...if it was designed by Apple.

    That's not a bad thing.

  • How about the Sonic the Hedgehog :P

  • "Disturbing"?

  • lol, sorry dude but this thing is hideous. Apart from the very disturbing fact that it is glazed, and the other very disturbing fact that it lacks windows, its shape is absurd and cartoony. This looks as much like a Star Trek starship as an elephant looks like a hummingbird.

  • That is impressive!

  • The idea of a replidock is not far fetched. There is an ENT episode where a kind of replidock repairs the NX01 Enterprise. Furthermore, it has been rumored that the dominion built their Jem'Hadar fighters in sections in a smaller spacedock using modular replicated sections. So it is a great idea for the future in addition to the amazing starship itself.

  • Very impressive. Perhaps another 50 years in the future ahead of Janeway, Sisko, and Picard's time. Additionally, I should think that by this time Starfleet would have perfected the Quantum Slipstream drive which I assume would be included in this amazingly sleek and futuristic design. Impressive. Nice work.

  • cool ship.

  • so cool...

that all I can say....this video was so cool to watch.....

  • why does it have it`s name in big letters on the aft of the saucer section?

because all you`ll see of this ship is it`s ass.

    MEEP! MEEP!

  • an excellent ship just dont take it into a planets atmosphere lol looks like the saucer section would snap off. still defiantly follows the styling changes seen in the sovereign and prometheus classes.

  • I like the main deflector, warp nacelles and pylons. The 'saucer' is just too darn awkward and bulky for my taste.

  • Pretty sleek.

  • nice work! but what an ugly starship! haha :D

  • Beautiful! I love how everything is so glossy and bright, as opposed to the "gritty" look that so many animations of this type have these days. This honestly is the best-looking Trek/starship CG I've seen on youtube! The camera loves your ship!

  • Amazing video! You have mad skills friend!

  • LOVE it, man!

  • Awesomely done!

  • I bet she runs circles around the USS Coyote.

  • Captain Bugs: Space.....the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Roadrunner. It continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no Looney Tune has gone before.

    Meep! Meep!

    *Jumps to Warp*

  • Congratulations!

Very well done. Your way ahead of all the rest.

Space is not empty, the rest are still flying oil refineries thru space and it wont work.

    Again beautiful.

  • :D Actually, I'd need a fourth speedy animation character: I've got the USS Coyote, the USS Roadrunner and the USS Gonzalez :P. Who else is there?

(By the way, I sort of did an infodump (-ish) at the other movie clip page)

  • BEEP BEEP!!

Sorry, someone had to say it. ^^

  • and u people thought JJ Abrams's version of the Enteprise was worse XD HAH.

This new class of federation ship to me is quite exotic and strange at the same time but other than the shape of the saucer section this looks quite neat for a ship of its time

  • Kudos for at least not kitbashing parts of known Trek ships like many people do. Nice video.

  • It could be that the hull plating itself is the emitter. OR it would be neat also if it was just an extension of the sheilds. Its an energy field afterall. Perhaps the field can be focuse and projected as a phaser beam. Then you could be firing from literally ANY vector. Just sayin... :P

  • I like your idea of Phaser hull plating. I've always thought that it would fit the general evolution of the phasers. First we had the Phaser cannons, then the phaser banks, then the phaser strips. The next likely advancement would be that the phasers could be emitted from any location on the surface of the ship.

  • ok.. one question. usually you can see the weapon mounts, like the Ares, along with the enterprise J... if was after them, wouldnt you still be able to see the weapon mounts, phasers, torpedoes, you should do a weapons test..... that would be sick, with tri cobolt torpedoes, white ones.. hehhe

  • @Lightris Sadly, the modeler I used to build that ship was a solids/surfaces one, and it seems I managed to turn some of the objects uneditable. My intention was to buid some torpedo tubes in the stardrive section's underside instead of the usual positions in the neck or the "saucer", sort of like the Andromeda Ascendant's ones.

  • @Lightris The orange pill in the neck would be a Genesis Beam emitter, for Gunbuster-like anime-style spectacle. Phaser-wise, all hull surfaces would be phaser emitters, so I ought to see how to translate the usual phaser emitter charge VFX (the bright points of light converging along the phaser strip to the actual beam emission point) into a two-dimensional one (some kind of converging pattern on the hull surface).

  • @Lightris One thing I'd want to try is doing phaser beams and the like mostly by hand instead of purely via 3D elements or After Effects plugins. Years ago I did a small space battle sequence with all energy beam shots done in Photoshop frame by frame (including flares, electric discharges, near-whiteouts and such), and I got a real nice old-style look with lots of energy, very Eighties-Scifi :)

  • @escifi - Well, since this is a "futuristic" Federation Starship, you could get away with saying that the phaser arrays and torpedo bays could be either cloaked, to conceal the number of arrays and bays, or they are shielded and could be unshielded during combat. I remind you of the shielding on the futuristic voyager from the episode, "End Game"......

  • awesome.

  • Whoa... It's like the Abrams aesthetic carried forward to the 24th century... I'm rather impressed.

  • Now I've seen alot of YouTube Star Trek animations but this out does them all 100%.This starship looks like it would exsist in the 25th early 26th century.Nice very nice.I hope you have a video of this one jumping into warp.

  • @thoughtfinder Thank you for your kind words. Funnily, I was just doing some tests trying to replicate ST:TMP's warp drive effects, as I love the rainbow-coloured tunnel of streaks and the Enterprise's light trails (those are hard to do well).

  • WOW This is excellent work! If I had Adobe AE this is the kind of stuff I'd like to be doing!

  • NICE presentation. Beautiful rendering and the way you presented the ship was perfect, along with a fitting soundtrack. I almost thought it was an in-game movie from a Star Trek video game or something...

  • NICE!

    Wave of the future...

    Of,um,the future...

    :oP

  • Very very nice. Love all of it.

  • Nice.

  • That was a gorgeous ship! I like your vision of future starships. Thank you for sharing this.

  • It SHOULD meep meep when warping out! :D What I'd want a 25th or 26th Century Federation and Starfleet is to lighten up, stop being such Shakespearian drama queens and hace FUN.

  • Not much, really. The 3D app I use is an oldie but goldie called Electricimage Animation System. It's a bit limited bells and whistles-wise, but it IS fast and scales very well with multicore systems (I have a 2006-class fourcore Mac Pro). Those renders I would start them all at night and check the next morning how it went.

I am thinking about doing a short combat scene, to see how phasers and shields could look like in such an era.

  • WOW! Is that yours? how much time has it took to finish the render??

  • this is verry nice but i would take the words roadrunner off the back it looks like a bumper sticker. but verry verry nice. could you put it in some kind of action to see how it wouls look and if you do please let me know about it. thank you

  • this the best animation work i have seen since Final Fantasy back in 01. Never mind what the others may say; i have found that those who can't do what you do find all kinds of things to complain about. So keep perfecting your craft. And i'll see you at the movies....

  • Those would be the two dark blue elements at the back of the neck. You can see them active in my "(01) Dark nebula" movie. As this would be a "future Trek" ship, they are not classical inertial confinement fusion engines but non-Newtonian ones (holograviton/fractional warp/whatever based). I've got lots of technobabble about this ship somewhere: I'll try to rescue it and post it.

  • Cool ship, but where are the impulse engines?

  • Thank you all for your comments. Now, let's see if I stop procrastinating and create some new scenes (I am quite bad at modeling so it is like pulling teeth)

  • when it goes to warp does it go blt blt beep beep first?

all jokes aside awesome design and graphics and still captures star trek spirit, well done!!

  • That is one sweet looking ship!

  • The Cardasians have a new secret weapon, the Wile E Coyote class battleship, manufactured at the Acme Shipyards.....

Different design for a starship, neat!

  • reminded me of wall-e :)

  • not a fan. in fact a waste of 45 sec of my life (fast forwarded it and shut it off)

  • @SPCB25 Wow, way to be a complete dick! Congratulations!

  • beep beep beep beep beep beep beep

  • ugly ship is not Star Treck like

  • Very good!! Original model, good animation, good camera moves...love it, we need more stuff like this out there =)

  • Shes a beauty!!

The Hull reminds me of the head of an Alien from Alien

    Nice work!!

  • Awesome.

  • You are far bolder than me :)

OK. Perhaps the biggest limitation would be how fast you can train people to get your new ships crewed, actually (although there is the issue of starship sentience: perhaps they don't need much or any crew at all, but that wouldn't be conducive to a Trekian universe, so we need reasons to keep the old conventions).

  • I disagree, I think it should be able to replicate a whole ship pin one go. For one thing, it's awesome, for another, I read that description for the ship and it fits the tech level. Also consider the fact that you're basing quite a bit of the tech on mastered genesis device style tech, so from that perspective one pass replication is the only way to go.

    Awesome ship.

  • Thank you. Certainly, having the capability of replicating whole starships in one go would be a bit too stupendous, so one could conceive some limitations requiring doing things by stages. At the forum where I first posted this design I wrote some treknobabble describing how things would work in these future starships. I'll copy/paste some.

  • Cool, its an odd thought of trek so far in the future they can replicate whole starships.

The designs pretty cool as well :)
