I recommend growing crops and then savings seeds from them, and then doing it again and again in your location; therefore the seeds get accustomed to your location.

You are forggeting that modern agriculture relies on OIL chemicals etc to make such high production. As soon as cheap oil is gone millions will starve it's simple, we have too many people on the planet to support without cheap oil. Also I should be planting some blueberry bushes, fruit trees, and maybe some grape vines this spring in various places. Whatever I do though I know that the main source of food will be what I store. *no loans for fertilizer and seeds
*natural disasters/floods/drought(california is having a major one now in its green belt)
*use of corn for ethanol
*Civil War in mexico
*Inflation on food that makes food too expensive for unemployed people
STAY OUT OF FOOD LINES!..VIOLENCE, RIOTS and other nastiness...Go only if safe

thanks for the response...we must take care of eachother...its more important than ever...if you live north of tennessee there is still time to start your seeds in your house...a 7 dollar floressent fixture and a 7 dollar grow bulb and 10 dollars worth of seed can save you 100s of dollars in food ..build a fish trap...there are several designs on youtube..msg me if you need clarification...ill help you if i can...pay attn. folks the government isnt warning us...so we must take care of ourselves.

Yes, I've just started today on growing some seeds indoors (these are mainly fruit & nut trees); they'll take years to grow - oh well.
I'm gonna be planting vegetables in 2 houses' yards this spring, and hopefully will be growing a whole lot of stuff on some land about 1/2 hour drive away. Also I should be planting some blueberry bushes, fruit trees, and maybe some grape vines this spring in various places. Whatever I do though I know that the main source of food will be what I store. Thanx

the nut trees and fruit trees will take YEARS to produce...grow squash, tomatoes, potatoes ...grow them in containers if you dont have space..old tires are excellent...

its craziness...you re absolutly right about peanut butter...it is the perfect food really...potentially it could have eliminated starvation...im growing food and hell i can plant it in the woods...in crawl spaces...caves...attic spaces......i still have a fishing pole and know how to build fish traps and even have an old crank phone and t-model magnito...(electric fishing)..I wont starve....I know what wild food can be eaten too...my children goes hungry because of politicians...and ...well...

@centervilletn RE the "drought" in Cali: it's manufactured. The stupid legislature and activists both in and out of the judiciary are cutting off the water from the Sacramento Delta to the Central Valley farms to save a pissant little smelt that MAY become endangered IF water levels drop so a certain level even though they have dropped below that level in the past and the damn fish are still there.

hahaha...yeah exactly! That's a pretty good idea when you think about it. The roof of course would have to support the amount of dirt you have on the roof - unless of course you grow without dirt (just nutrients - there is something concerning nutrient tablets on the internet; I would recommend making your own however that could be done). It could work, it really could. Maybe I'll just move to the moon, just like my plan to collect gold out of the air....

I think you should tell them first that they don't magically appear in the frozen food aisle. That they aren't put in that aisle by a mysterious 3-headed creature-demon who knows that the buyer will want them the next day. That's not how it works....

Agribiz man, commercial food growing and distr. Wait for oil at $200, would you pay $10 LB broccoli from california? When you say food, you are insinuating raw food. The majority eats prepared/packaged food. How much of the ingredients are from overseas! When(shortly) the dollar collapses we will be unable to buy those ingredients at a viable cost, especially with shipping(oil) cost skyrocketing. Telling people to look now is equivalent to getting plate number from your own hit and run. Buy food

Absolutely buy food! If one's homeless I recommend find some unused land somewhere and store the food there underground. People could very well be eating eachother within 2-3 years.

walmarts get food from farmers. Years ago there was a surplus, we had lots stored up. No there is no surplus and if climate change keeps up, there will be drought.
In America? Google 1930's great depression and "dust bowl" and "dirty 30's" Lack of moisture caused lot of food shortage. Read your history so you don't have to relive it.

In the worst instance, the food will be produced and delivered at government "gunpoint" or the civil unrest will become extreme overnight. I would be very surprised if government does not have contingency plans in place for just such events.

as animal feed for chinese and inidian
cattle, all this soy beans will be exported.
(as it is now in Brazil).
Or Americans will find them selves in
working on farm growing roses for Japan.
