So, are we as Americans NOT sending in the clowns to run our own government? Not trying to start another COMPLETELY differently topic, but I see our national elections as a "send in the VOTED clowns" type of event.
Interesting, though absolutely wrong. The human world has been moving along quite nicely for the 150,000 years or so, with all of its problems, weaknesses, and injustices. Still, more people are being fed than at any point in history. We have touched the face of the heavens and landed on the moon, as well as exerting our presence onto other worlds. Yes, we could always look inward and think more about our surroundings. But don't mistake a glorious history for meaningless pablum.
@Exmech2 At what point did I say anything about our species not progressing over the the last 150,000 years? This is not a commentary about a lack progress throughout human history, and I'm sorry if it somehow gave you the impression that it was.
@GrapplingIgnorance No, but you certainly expressed your "displeasure" at civilization today forgetting that that which came before created what is today. We're not doing too badly, and civilization is moving along quite nicely.
@Exmech2 We're performing miserably below our potential as a species in terms of priorities and maturity. That's my problem. If you consider a new iProduct and a new war annually to be civilization moving along "quite nicely" than we're simply not on the same page with this issue.
@GrapplingIgnorance "We're performing miserably below our potential as a species"... I'm sorry, but could you define what your benchmark for this statement is? How do you come to know what our potential is? What method did you sue?
@Exmech2 There is no other civilization to use as a benchmark. I make that judgement because this far into our existence we still haven't grown up enough as a species to do the basics like break down unnecessary boarders, tolerate/embrace necessary differences, and stop killing each other in fruitless wars. We have abundant resources and technology, but have allowed our own greed to corrupt our government cripple our progress. We still cling to fairy tales of religion and media bias too.
@GrapplingIgnorance 30,000 years ago we looked up and wondered what the stars tasted like. Only a little more than 40 years ago we landed a man on the Moon. I can very critical of all the injustice in the world, but I could never allude that the whole of civilization is entranced by the dancing clowns. They aren't. We're moving along quite nicely. We can actually envision a time when a near-utopia may be possible. 100 Years ago, it wasn't even dreamed about.
@Exmech2 This is clearly a matter of subjective opinions and untestable predictions of the future. Again, pointing to the fact that we have progressed over the last 30,000 years is not an acceptable excuse to me for the immature behavior of modern day humanity in a time that we really should know better & holistically behave accordingly in my opinion. Is the whole of civilization more concerned with American idol than American politics? No- but most of it is.
@GrapplingIgnorance Well, in the US, voter turnout is a paltry 38%. The rest of the democratic developed nations average about 80% with Australia at the top with 96%. Most of developed civilization takes an interest in politics. What is America when compared to 150,000 years of human societal evolution? We're a little bump in the road. But we are moving along nicely.
@Exmech2 LIke I said, if you're pleased- good for you. I'm happy for you. It's nice that you can put on a happy face and be satisfied while humanity rests on the laurels of climbing out of the the filth it once lived in (even though plenty of 3rd world countries are still there). I have problems with this planet far beyond voting participation (like the seemingly pointless nature of voting itself in the US). Ignoring the problems I have and saying "at least it's > 30,000 BC" doesn't work for me.
@GrapplingIgnorance Sigh... if you feel that humanity merely "rests on the laurels of climbing out of the filth" then it seems you've moved the goalposts well beyond reasonable expectations. As you pointed out... we know of only one civilization. Feel free to live the rest of your life in disappointment.
@Exmech2 I'm not bent on being disappointed for my entire life. I'll be delighted when humanity stops disappointing me, but I'm not going pretend that I'm satisfied with us actually achieving our potential when in my best estimation we've come no where close.
@GrapplingIgnorance But you do recognize that that estimation is based on your conjecture of where you "feel" we should be, as opposed to a hard scientific criterion, and that there are other valid, stronger, viewpoints based on factual historical milestones that are diametrically opposed to your conjecture.
@Exmech2 Absolutely not. We can make guesses and hopes for the future based on the history, but that doesn't make it a prediction of hard scientific criterion. The whole matter has too many variables and is too subjective to even start saying it's scientific. It comes down to judging society against personal priorities and opinions. I never claimed that our current state is objectively "bad" and don't intend to,as good and bad are not objective.
@ s1lvrlad3 The powerful have always understood that to keep power you have to keep the mob from unifying. Religion does it, dictators do it, even democracies do it. You burn your neighbourhood down, you do their work for them.
@S1lvrblad3 if these people are pissed off at the government or the bankers or the rich plutocrats, then why are they burning the houses of local people no better off than themselves. Why destroy the business of the locals who are in their same neighbourhoods. The problem with the riots is they hurt the people who are not at fault. They in fact give the powers that be the excuse to tighten the grip and the excuse to brush the issues under the rug.
@s1lv3rblad3 If I may, I'll take a stab at what is wrong with riots - and I'll avoid the cliche if I can. Let's assume the riots are NOT just an attempt to grab free stuff and vent frustrations. I think it is safe to say that even if the riots are just a cash grab and not a political statement there is still an underlying economic and disenfranchisment issue that stacks the timber for the fire.. so to speak. So, what IS wrong with the riots in all cases... it is this... (cont)
you have a lot of differing opinions than me but every time I hear one of your poems it makes me revisit the subject matter that you are discussing and rethink my position the given topic. I like people that make me think. keep it up my friend.
@Ghuegel It doesnt make it right, entertainment has its place and its far from being wrong. But when it supersedes reality and demeans the real work and good intent. When it becomes more important than societal problems or is presented as the perfection we should all strive to, it becomes dangerous, even evil past a point.
@purv989 What do you consider to qualify someone as a poet? Do they have to go to Robert Frost University & get a degree in poetry with a minor in the specific devices that appeal to you individually? I suppose I should never write poems since you don't think I'm good at it and if you didn't enjoy it, that's all that matters the other 500+ people who enjoyed this piece should never have heard it because you think you can decide who real poets are and haven't deemed me worthy of the title. Right.
@GrapplingIgnorance Why don't we shape the world in a more skeptic and scientific version of what it is today? we can start by supporting anything that will actually make an impact, because hey if you dont stand for liberty then you shouldn't open your mouth, i believe you do stand for liberty. we should do our best to support skeptic and scientific think anyway possible. Hopefully we can shape the future for the better, religion and ignorance set humanity back a lot. amazingatheist says it all
@Tethloach1 That's a very broad piece of advice. Getting that majority of the US congress to agree on anything is nearly impossible, let alone getting the world to agree on what kinds of things will "make an impact." I'm not sure what you mean be "support" in this comment, either. The only ways people can really support significant change today is to do so with their wallets or votes (when they do get the luxury to vote over such matters that is).
@GrapplingIgnorance I always thought that was a stupid argument . "Oh they're playing a game and payed millions while others do harder work." We live in a world where the more money you help your business gain, the more you can get payed, Entertainment is a multi-billion dollar business, and if your job is to generate that money, and you do, then you will get payed.
As a veteran, I was disgusted at what I felt was little coverage of the heroes that paid the ultimate price on a Ch-47 over the mountains of Afghanistan on Saturday. How many people can name one MOH recipient? Almost none in the HS classes I work with can, including the teachers, despite the fact that two were awarded this year? Do we truly get the news we deserve? Oh well, I guess I’m happy they were mentioned at all, considering Casey Anthony wasn’t on the fucking aircraft.
This piece critiques while provoking uncomfortable introspection and isn't some bullshit haiku. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? How the hell am I supposed to enjoy my porn while listening to this? I almost felt dirty for a second, almost.
I thought we had an accepted process. Perhaps a rating system is in order.
Caution, Introspective content, may diminish arousal, pause porn.
@GrapplingIgnorance Lol, yeah, I didn't mean whether it was good or not, but sort of, why. As in, what sort of social issues would cause problems so that so many people would be eager to riot like that. I don't know though.
@w35m4n It could be seen as an indicator that this generation does not feel that the risk of perpetuating violence outweighs the rewards of a fleeting adrenaline rush, or having their voices acknowledged, even if they are not really saying anything just yet. Wait for the next round of austerity measures to be enacted. The term royal reception will likely take on darker tones as young adults stop giving a shit about Pippa and the other clowns, and start feeling disenfranchised and misled.
@GrapplingIgnorance Is that because civil disobedience is bad? Or reacting to atrocities is bad? Or a group of angry people burning buses is bad? What exactly is bad about Riots considering they all start out protests until authorities get aggressive?
I used to be cynical about this stuff before. I'm still capable of taking it cynical (I couldn't care less for celebrity on its own), but I don't really see this as something problematic. If there is anyone who deserves a multi-million-dollar cheque, it's the exceptional people - whether geniuses in the arts, performance or in science, not some rich kid who just inherits billions for doing nothing.
@8DX I agree that exceptional people deserve more glory than those who inherit it, but that isn't the point of this piece. Where's the big checks for the exceptional teachers, or postal workers, or garbage men that our society can't live without? These celebrities make more money in a year than most of us could hope to spend in a lifetime, and we lose track of them just being human beings like the rest of us that are little more than a pleasant diversion.
@GrapplingIgnorance Well I don't think there's enough money to go round for everyone like that. I'm a programmer and don't devote half as much effort, sweat and blood as a teacher does and get a higher wage than most of them do. Neverthertheless I pay my taxes and support the healthcare / childcare benefits and educational system costs that I pay to these people. I think a good social state is the fairest reward to these exceptional people.
@GrapplingIgnorance Another things is it's simple mathematics: who gets big cheques? Someone who influences millions of people, be it by designing a successful brand image, winning a sporting event watched by millions, becoming the idol of teen girls worldwide. Oh and businesmen who sell millions of products. A plumber is crucial but as an individual he provides service for on average 50-100 people a year.
Eh... Heard the song just after learning that all the cool space projects are/were scrapped, despite the fact that the wall-street bailout equaled NASA's entire 50 year budget. Today is a downer, tomorrow I will hope again.
@akylae101 You Americans really have penile minority complexes. OK, so the biggest collider is in CERN. OK so the space program isn't gonna be lead by Americans, OK so China is looking to be the future leading superpower...
Get real: we should be concentrated on democracy and global peace. Scientists have no nation, their results are universal. Get into that mentality and perhaps you'll understand that humanity is more than nations..
I'm a Croat. I agree with you on all points. It's just... waste is waste. Why should I not be sad that something useful and inspirational was scrapped in favor of violence(military) and greed(banks). Europe has signs of taking on the torch, so I'll hope, but James Webb was supposed to be up by 2015, and no one has plans for a substitute in the time-frame. China will take years to do what others already have done / are doing.
@akylae101 Webb would be created elsewhere if not in the US.. scrapping it would however be a HUGE setback (decades? I aint gonna live that long). I hope they get this up at the top and move back to a more reasonable approach. Just saying that it isn't about one nation getting somewhere first. It's now REALLY about the nations most able to collaborate and research - doing that.
I'll take the red pill, thanks. I'm beginning to wonder just what it will take to wake Americans up to what is going on in the world. There are nearly 7 billion people on this planet, and the greatest percent of money belongs to less than 1 million of them. Yet those people want more, lets stop giving it to them!
@charlesfloyb It was a subtle reference to that nursery rhyme, and I'm glad you caught it- there aren't a lot of old school style candle stick makers around anymore. It's done by machines- and Yankee Candle is a high scale, big money corporation.
@NeverlandAud Well you'll be excited for a while then. I have a months worth of content that I'm waiting to produce and release. I just don't like flooding people sub boxes, or even posting daily.
Fake idols indeed. Why do we waste so much on these athletes and models and performers. Movies are nothin really to get worked about. The music is no longer good now that the artists who wrote about the miserable experience of reality and hypocrisy of government and even their own industry. Being attractive should also merit nothing. And most athletes are nothing but a bunch of dumb whit caps.
All the stats suggests that the role of religion in our society is on the decline. We atheists, in our arrogance, like to think it's due to better education, access to science, and reason. Wrong. It's due to entertainment and the way technology makes it central to our lives. For many centuries religion was a way to give meaning and purpose to peoples lives, and it made things a lot more interesting. We have 24 hour NFL, porn, X-box, movies... everything else just gets in the way.
This is just why I don't have cable TV. Youtube, wikipedia and good old books brings you wisdom and keep you away from shallow and brain oxygen deprevated entertainment.
I'm not usually taken with poetry but this really hit me. Most of what society considers to be the goal or definition of success in life is so utterly pointless, futile, and transient. We're losing sight of the bigger picture, and it is being drowned in the sheer number of voices on our planet. Thank you for raising your voice to tell the story. :)
@Roobitz Given the right perspective, anything at life can be demeaned as pointless, futile, and transient. That's part of why I've stopped being harsh towards those who favor things just a little more futile, pointless, and transient than what I prefer. So if you love shoes over Shakespeare, pretty shallow sluts over moody elegance, Bieber over Beethoven, fart jokes over a Hitchslap, Jesus' love over Sagan's... it'll all end in no time with nothing to show. I prefer to love it all.
@ghuegel There is a dose of truth to that comment, but to basically say that at the end of life nothing we did in life will matter and therefore everything should just be put on the same level is lunacy to me. "Given the right perspective" life itself is pointless, but that's not the perspective I hold for me life.
@GrapplingIgnorance I'm not saying that you should put everything on the same level for your own life or what you advocate. But demeaning others' decisions or pleasures as pointless or shallow is the pot calling the kettle black. Your greatest aspirations are short-lived too. People are happier, overall, with goals that span their entire lives; and they shouldn't be entirely focused on hedonism. But short-term goals, pleasure, superficial bullshit, etc, have their own wonderful place too.
so, when are you people going to get mad enough? you already have a Trojan horse president, an economy dragging down all the other economies in the world, a super congress ready to fuck you like there is no tomorrow, a government of by and for the corporations... what else do you need to get mad and stand up for your country and your lives?
@truvak The US, not Obama, is the Trojan horse, invited in by all the world with promises of freedom and prosperity, only to find themselves enslaved through greed by dependence and and mindless distraction.
Obama is akin to Sisyphus and Alexander-without-a-sword. The only weapon he can wield is the support of the people, who bite his hand and become soft as wax when they must harden in resolve. So Obama pushes his stone up the mountain while all watch and shake their heads when he falls.
@DerOrso you are right, that is why the government is supposed to by of by and for the people, some guy was arguing that they voted for the one that offer change change change, and now Obama is the bad guy, not the people that disingenuously voted for an empty armor holding a fake magic wand, not the the people that forgets about the other branches of government, they just judge from their couches banging the remote like a gavel passing gas and the blame to someone else.
@rictusgate Youtube is a form of publication, so technically yes. Feel free to print them if you want them at hand, but I really don't see the point in producing a book when thousands can/do hear my words here at their leisure.
@GrapplingIgnorance Couldn't agree more - I'm just an old guy I guess . . . I enjoy the feel of a book and the time to take the words in at my own pace . . . more room to cogitate. I may just print some of them off for my own use, thanks. And thanks for putting pen/finger to paper/keyboard and sharing some of the more lucid insights to be found anywhere on the net let alone YT. Keep'em coming, pls.
You are an absolute genius,GI. There's nothing more to say. This is a brilliant work and it hit a part of my mind that has always been sensitive to the truth. Enough to keep me as a skeptic. I applaud you for putting that feeling into words and sharing it with all who will see this. Très bien fait
YES! This hits the nail on the head! The walls are crashing down on the middle class and our reaction is to watch American Idol on our Ipads while saying "Isn't this keen?! Is this the American Dream or what?!" Fuck that. We are drowning in materialism while the rich sail away with our souls. We are DISTRACTED. Obama's a joke and we the voters are the punchline. We need to unite in some way. We need to have a Progressive revolution. Otherwise, the American Dream will soon die in our sleep.
You really are a gifted poet, you know! Did you ever consider publishing some of this stuff?
This one is great. Infuriating in the veracity of its message, but isn't inciting a strong emotional response in the reader what good poetry should do?
@62netty Yes- I just published it to youtube. Hundreds of people saw it within the first couple hours. If I was to publish I book, it would be months before reaching as many eye and ears- if I was lucky.
@GrapplingIgnorance You've got me there, the number of readers/listeners you get on You-tube is probably larger than the complete audience of some literary magazines.... But I like the acknowledgement of my work by other poets if I manage to get something published, and the challenge to get that far. But that's just me.
@Quintinohthree I don't think it's fair to have these poems in the same category, where BD's are like Dr. Seuss GI's poem is in a more raw power category.
@GrapplingIgnorance Just off topic, but I really agree with just all you criticize. I mean why should there be superbonuses, when people are dying, just because solidarity is for losers and the winners have all the right to keep their profit. More of topic, what's your political stance in general?
I'd thought of the idea of entertainment as a distraction by those in power, much like the Colosseum in ancient Rome, but I never was as disturbed by the idea as I am now. We need more people like you out there, GI.
We should have scientists and philosophers ect... as the worshiped and dreamed of

I can very critical of all the injustice in the world, but I could never allude that the whole of civilization is entranced by the dancing clowns. They aren't. We're moving along quite nicely. We can actually envision a time when a near-utopia may be possible. 100 Years ago, it wasn't even dreamed about.
Exmech2 6 months ago
@Exmech2 This is clearly a matter of subjective opinions and untestable predictions of the future. Again, pointing to the fact that we have progressed over the last 30,000 years is not an acceptable excuse to me for the immature behavior of modern day humanity in a time that we really should know better & holistically behave accordingly in my opinion. Is the whole of civilization more concerned with American idol than American politics? No- but most of it is.
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Well, in the US, voter turnout is a paltry 38%. The rest of the democratic developed nations average about 80% with Australia at the top with 96%. Most of developed civilization takes an interest in politics. What is America when compared to 150,000 years of human societal evolution? We're a little bump in the road. But we are moving along nicely.
Exmech2 6 months ago
@Exmech2 LIke I said, if you're pleased- good for you. I'm happy for you. It's nice that you can put on a happy face and be satisfied while humanity rests on the laurels of climbing out of the the filth it once lived in (even though plenty of 3rd world countries are still there). I have problems with this planet far beyond voting participation (like the seemingly pointless nature of voting itself in the US). Ignoring the problems I have and saying "at least it's > 30,000 BC" doesn't work for me.
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Sigh... if you feel that humanity merely "rests on the laurels of climbing out of the filth" then it seems you've moved the goalposts well beyond reasonable expectations. As you pointed out... we know of only one civilization. Feel free to live the rest of your life in disappointment.
Exmech2 6 months ago
@Exmech2 I'm not bent on being disappointed for my entire life. I'll be delighted when humanity stops disappointing me, but I'm not going pretend that I'm satisfied with us actually achieving our potential when in my best estimation we've come no where close.
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance But you do recognize that that estimation is based on your conjecture of where you "feel" we should be, as opposed to a hard scientific criterion, and that there are other valid, stronger, viewpoints based on factual historical milestones that are diametrically opposed to your conjecture.
Exmech2 6 months ago

Brandeis74 6 months ago
@S1lvrblad3 if these people are pissed off at the government or the bankers or the rich plutocrats, then why are they burning the houses of local people no better off than themselves. Why destroy the business of the locals who are in their same neighbourhoods. The problem with the riots is they hurt the people who are not at fault. They in fact give the powers that be the excuse to tighten the grip and the excuse to brush the issues under the rug.
Brandeis74 6 months ago

THEBEEF7054 6 months ago
@Ghuegel It doesnt make it right, entertainment has its place and its far from being wrong. But when it supersedes reality and demeans the real work and good intent. When it becomes more important than societal problems or is presented as the perfection we should all strive to, it becomes dangerous, even evil past a point.

Stick to commentary and leave the poetry to the poets. It is so much more than lazy analogies.
purv989 6 months ago

Hopefully we can shape the future for the better, religion and ignorance set humanity back a lot. amazingatheist says it all
Tethloach1 5 months ago
@Tethloach1 That's a very broad piece of advice. Getting that majority of the US congress to agree on anything is nearly impossible, let alone getting the world to agree on what kinds of things will "make an impact." I'm not sure what you mean be "support" in this comment, either. The only ways people can really support significant change today is to do so with their wallets or votes (when they do get the luxury to vote over such matters that is).

@w35m4n Riots are bad, mkay?
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago 8
@GrapplingIgnorance Lol, yeah, I didn't mean whether it was good or not, but sort of, why. As in, what sort of social issues would cause problems so that so many people would be eager to riot like that. I don't know though.
w35m4n 6 months ago
@w35m4n It could be seen as an indicator that this generation does not feel that the risk of perpetuating violence outweighs the rewards of a fleeting adrenaline rush, or having their voices acknowledged, even if they are not really saying anything just yet. Wait for the next round of austerity measures to be enacted. The term royal reception will likely take on darker tones as young adults stop giving a shit about Pippa and the other clowns, and start feeling disenfranchised and misled.
AdUtrumquePeratus76 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Is that because civil disobedience is bad? Or reacting to atrocities is bad? Or a group of angry people burning buses is bad? What exactly is bad about Riots considering they all start out protests until authorities get aggressive?
S1lv3rblad3 6 months ago
I used to be cynical about this stuff before. I'm still capable of taking it cynical (I couldn't care less for celebrity on its own), but I don't really see this as something problematic. If there is anyone who deserves a multi-million-dollar cheque, it's the exceptional people - whether geniuses in the arts, performance or in science, not some rich kid who just inherits billions for doing nothing.
8DX 6 months ago
@8DX I agree that exceptional people deserve more glory than those who inherit it, but that isn't the point of this piece. Where's the big checks for the exceptional teachers, or postal workers, or garbage men that our society can't live without? These celebrities make more money in a year than most of us could hope to spend in a lifetime, and we lose track of them just being human beings like the rest of us that are little more than a pleasant diversion.
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Well I don't think there's enough money to go round for everyone like that. I'm a programmer and don't devote half as much effort, sweat and blood as a teacher does and get a higher wage than most of them do. Neverthertheless I pay my taxes and support the healthcare / childcare benefits and educational system costs that I pay to these people. I think a good social state is the fairest reward to these exceptional people.
8DX 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Another things is it's simple mathematics: who gets big cheques? Someone who influences millions of people, be it by designing a successful brand image, winning a sporting event watched by millions, becoming the idol of teen girls worldwide. Oh and businesmen who sell millions of products. A plumber is crucial but as an individual he provides service for on average 50-100 people a year.

@8DX
XD hahaha!
Thanks for the laugh, příteli. :-)
akylae101 6 months ago
@akylae101 Webb would be created elsewhere if not in the US.. scrapping it would however be a HUGE setback (decades? I aint gonna live that long). I hope they get this up at the top and move back to a more reasonable approach. Just saying that it isn't about one nation getting somewhere first. It's now REALLY about the nations most able to collaborate and research - doing that.

Roobitz 6 months ago
@Roobitz Given the right perspective, anything at life can be demeaned as pointless, futile, and transient. That's part of why I've stopped being harsh towards those who favor things just a little more futile, pointless, and transient than what I prefer. So if you love shoes over Shakespeare, pretty shallow sluts over moody elegance, Bieber over Beethoven, fart jokes over a Hitchslap, Jesus' love over Sagan's... it'll all end in no time with nothing to show. I prefer to love it all.
ghuegel 6 months ago
@ghuegel There is a dose of truth to that comment, but to basically say that at the end of life nothing we did in life will matter and therefore everything should just be put on the same level is lunacy to me. "Given the right perspective" life itself is pointless, but that's not the perspective I hold for me life.
GrapplingIgnorance 6 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance I'm not saying that you should put everything on the same level for your own life or what you advocate. But demeaning others' decisions or pleasures as pointless or shallow is the pot calling the kettle black. Your greatest aspirations are short-lived too. People are happier, overall, with goals that span their entire lives; and they shouldn't be entirely focused on hedonism. But short-term goals, pleasure, superficial bullshit, etc, have their own wonderful place too.

truvak 6 months ago
@truvak The US, not Obama, is the Trojan horse, invited in by all the world with promises of freedom and prosperity, only to find themselves enslaved through greed by dependence and and mindless distraction.
Obama is akin to Sisyphus and Alexander-without-a-sword. The only weapon he can wield is the support of the people, who bite his hand and become soft as wax when they must harden in resolve. So Obama pushes his stone up the mountain while all watch and shake their heads when he falls.
DerOrso 6 months ago
@DerOrso you are right, that is why the government is supposed to by of by and for the people, some guy was arguing that they voted for the one that offer change change change, and now Obama is the bad guy, not the people that disingenuously voted for an empty armor holding a fake magic wand, not the the people that forgets about the other branches of government, they just judge from their couches banging the remote like a gavel passing gas and the blame to someone else.
