nebraska record against the longhorns since the formation of the big 12? try 1-7. it all started with that 3 touchdown underdog victory (4th and inches!!!) in the inaugural big 12 championship game, which believe was in kansas city.
but i do have to say that the most underachieving team in all of college football is notre dame. i cant imagine why all these high caliber athletes would want to go there when their football teams are consistently average at best. its actually kinda funny that with consistent top 10 recruiting notre dame cant deliver a decent team. it just blows my mind that all these 5 star players' talents are wasted when they go to notre dame.
texas is a hotbed for national recruiting, and there is absolutely no reason they shouldnt go to the NC almost every year with the recruiting they get. in terms of how much talent UT rakes in, they grossly underachieve in my opinion. USC is even worse. but regardless, nebraska's history is more impressive than UT's because NU did it with a slew of walkons and 3-star players. UT gets at least 10 4 stars and 2 5 stars every year, and usually more than that.

aside from OU texas has no real competition in their state. honestly, texas doesnt have to work that hard to get great recruits. all they gotta do is offer a guy a now-or-never scholarship offer and a lot of the time they get a verbal commitment. thats why they get so many early commitments and why they already have an almost full class for 2010. teams like kansas, nebraska, missouri, colorado, etc. have to work ten times as hard to get recruits that good.
but i will say this: texas has to work harder than notre dame for great recruits--they actually have to do somewhat well. notre dame could go 0-12 and have a top 5 recruiting class that offseason.
yes i admit they do have to work harder in kansas and nebraska and all those other north teams. thats because those states suck ass. you have to play most of your games in the cold. why would anybody want to play football in rundown lincoln or lawrence when you can go to austin. i admit it is a weird town if you have ever been there but thats what makes it great. plus its in the heart of the hill country. its beautiful
actually nebraska is a very beautiful state, and yes, very cold in the winter, but if the reason you dont go to nebraska is because its cold, im thinkin you need to toughen up a little bit. besides, they have very nice indoor practice fields. besides, texas gets so many 4 and 5 star recruits, there is much better opportunity at nebraska or missouri or kansas or pretty much anywhere else except OU. UT's 2010 class is already almost full, and 17 of the 21 recruits are 4 stars so far.
texas practically gets handed recruits. actually thats taking it a little far but they have a huge advantage of having so many great players in their state. nebraska has to work a lot harder to get good recruits than texas does.

bill callahan flat out wrecked nebraska. the tunnel walk was never intended to intimidate the opponent. it was just a long time tradition. then bill came in and completely warped all of nebraska's traditions, alienated former players, and screwed over the whole program at the same time. i am ashamed of the 2004 through 2007 seasons and am so glad that he is gone. he left bo pelini with a big mess to clean up, and so far, bo is doing a great job of cleaning it up and making it what it was before.

i have to disagree. yes that was a great game, but there were too many mistakes to be the best game ever. the greatest college game ever played was in 1971: 1)nebraska 35, 2)oklahoma 31.
How were there too many mistakes? Besides Reggie Bush's ridiculous lateral, both sides played great. The D played great in the fist half and the two best offenses in the NCAA dominated in the second half. Vince Young may have put on the greatest individual performance in a championship ever and the build up to the game, along with the game itself, was voted by numerous sports magazines and experts as the greatest college football game ever.
im not saying it wasnt a great game, because it was a really good game and no doubt one of the best games ever. the only thing that is holding me back from saying that it was the best was for one thing bush's lateral (i honestly dont think texas would have won if that hadnt have happened) and because texas was mostly a one man show that game. other than that, yes, it was an extremely good game on both sides.

Hey, the body of work is admirable for both schools... but you know the deal... it's what have you done for me lately? The Big XII is better off when Nebraska is good... I think Polini (forgive possible spelling error) will get the ship back on course in another couple of years. Nebraska was great under Osborne. TX is great under Brown... They've split a couple of Big XII title games, but the program's have gone in opposite directions since 1999.

Yeah considering USC's defense had so much NFL talent and was so grossly underrated due to its offenses being one of the best ever. I think the fact that USC's offense was one of the most prolific in college football ever more than makes up for their defense not being the best ever. UT did beat Ohio State in the 'Shoe though and there are some that think the 2005 Ohio State defense was one of the best, up there with the '95 Huskers, and had one of the best linebacking corps in college football

man, i thought for sure nebraska had won this game. i recall watching it in new orleans ready to drown my sorrows until that fumblerooski. that led to the field goal in the snow and a victory for them horns!!! tears of despair quickly turned into tears of joy.

but i do have to say that the most underachieving team in all of college football is notre dame. i cant imagine why all these high caliber athletes would want to go there when their football teams are consistently average at best. its actually kinda funny that with consistent top 10 recruiting notre dame cant deliver a decent team. it just blows my mind that all these 5 star players' talents are wasted when they go to notre dame.

texas is a hotbed for national recruiting, and there is absolutely no reason they shouldnt go to the NC almost every year with the recruiting they get. in terms of how much talent UT rakes in, they grossly underachieve in my opinion. USC is even worse. but regardless, nebraska's history is more impressive than UT's because NU did it with a slew of walkons and 3-star players. UT gets at least 10 4 stars and 2 5 stars every year, and usually more than that.

aside from OU texas has no real competition in their state. honestly, texas doesnt have to work that hard to get great recruits. all they gotta do is offer a guy a now-or-never scholarship offer and a lot of the time they get a verbal commitment. thats why they get so many early commitments and why they already have an almost full class for 2010. teams like kansas, nebraska, missouri, colorado, etc. have to work ten times as hard to get recruits that good.

actually nebraska is a very beautiful state, and yes, very cold in the winter, but if the reason you dont go to nebraska is because its cold, im thinkin you need to toughen up a little bit. besides, they have very nice indoor practice fields. besides, texas gets so many 4 and 5 star recruits, there is much better opportunity at nebraska or missouri or kansas or pretty much anywhere else except OU. UT's 2010 class is already almost full, and 17 of the 21 recruits are 4 stars so far.

bill callahan flat out wrecked nebraska. the tunnel walk was never intended to intimidate the opponent. it was just a long time tradition. then bill came in and completely warped all of nebraska's traditions, alienated former players, and screwed over the whole program at the same time. i am ashamed of the 2004 through 2007 seasons and am so glad that he is gone. he left bo pelini with a big mess to clean up, and so far, bo is doing a great job of cleaning it up and making it what it was before.

In the all time series there have been 6 games decided by a touchdown or less both ways if that is domination I'm ray charles. In most of the games it could of went either way IMO. i agree that texas has owned nebraska i cant argue (texas is 8-4 against nebraska) but please do not bring up the any games within the past 4 years. all 4 years bill callahan has been at nebraska has been a complete joke and i am totally ashamed of it. this is not nebraska. bo pelini is going to have to right the ship, and i am confident that he will. i dont think husker fans should be defending the past 4 years, because NU has not been NU since the end of the season in 2003.

TX was average at best that year and Nebraska may have had a shot at the national title if they win that game. I doubt you'd see things the same way if Callahan were coaching TX and Brown were coaching Nebraska. TX was brutal from 1985-1989 and 1991-1997... I don't think that matters much in the eyes of the competition. You think Ball State or Southern Mississippi care who was coaching?

i guess i dont know what you are saying but my point is, with bill callahan he completely destroyed all of nebraska's traditions and wrecked the whole thing. with osborne, nebraska developed great traditions and was consistently a top powerhouse team. although callahan did improve offense and recruiting, the whole program was completely trashed. besides, i think pelini is a better recruiter than callahan by a long shot, and hes obviously much smarter (retained watson as OC.

I guess my point is is that you can't throw out the stretches when the Nebraska program was down when you talk about the TX / Neb series. The team's that have beaten TX when they were down (or just flat out upset them) do not play those wins down because the program happened to be not at it's best. Those wins are recruiting tools. You are right about Callahan... terrible fit in Nebraska. Pelini will turn things around. He's a winner and a good recruiter. The Big XII needs Nebraska back.

How were there too many mistakes? Besides Reggie Bush's ridiculous lateral, both sides played great. The D played great in the fist half and the two best offenses in the NCAA dominated in the second half. Vince Young may have put on the greatest individual performance in a championship ever and the build up to the game, along with the game itself, was voted by numerous sports magazines and experts as the greatest college football game ever.

im not saying it wasnt a great game, because it was a really good game and no doubt one of the best games ever. the only thing that is holding me back from saying that it was the best was for one thing bush's lateral (i honestly dont think texas would have won if that hadnt have happened) and because texas was mostly a one man show that game. other than that, yes, it was an extremely good game on both sides.

Come on man... seriously. I hear the Big Red nation whining about how over-rated Mack Brown is and how 2005 was thanks to VY. VY would have been playing somewhere else (maybe Nebraska) if they would have had any kind of a competitive program in the last decade. There's a strong correlation between Mack's arrival at TX and the downfall of Nebraska football. I'll gladly take the last decade at TX over Nebraska's last decade. You have a coach now, so look for the light at the end of the tunnel

Hey, the body of work is admirable for both schools... but you know the deal... it's what have you done for me lately? The Big XII is better off when Nebraska is good... I think Polini (forgive possible spelling error) will get the ship back on course in another couple of years. Nebraska was great under Osborne. TX is great under Brown... They've split a couple of Big XII title games, but the program's have gone in opposite directions since 1999.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who realized how overrated Mack Brown is. With the kind of high school talent that lies in Texas and the kind of recruits that the 'Horns bring in every year, they should have at least 2 or 3 titles in the last 10 years. The only reason they even have one is because of VY, not Mack Brown. And if USC's defense would have been worth anything in '05, they wouldn't have got that one either.

Yeah considering USC's defense had so much NFL talent and was so grossly underrated due to its offenses being one of the best ever. I think the fact that USC's offense was one of the most prolific in college football ever more than makes up for their defense not being the best ever. UT did beat Ohio State in the 'Shoe though and there are some that think the 2005 Ohio State defense was one of the best, up there with the '95 Huskers, and had one of the best linebacking corps in college football

Thanks for promoting the Huskers Tunnel Walk. I'm glad you like it as much as we do, we've had plenty of practice. Memorial Stadium was the 1st college venue to implement video big boards in '94, I guess Texas finally got around to installing there's 10yrs. later. Congrats, better late than never.

Here's a refresher course of how Nebraska was destroying everything in this nation like a supercell thunderstorm on the plains. Nat'l Runner-Up '93, Nat'l Champs '94 and '95, Finished 3rd Nationally '96, Nat'l Champs '97 and played for the Nat'l Championship 2000! Not to mention routinely embarassing top 5 teams!
