@PuddingblendeR The armor is mainly motor bike and lacrosse gear. If you did a search for motorcross equipment you could find very similar armor. We never tested it against rattan however I would go so far as to say the head shoulders, forearms, back (spine), knees, and shins would be protected. Thighs and everywhere in between those spots I mentioned are unprotected.
@PuddingblendeR Oh yeah, and the upper chest would be protected but not so much from the mid section downward. If you are looking specifically for Escrima protection I believe you can buy harnessess/gambesons for sparring. They also use hockey gear for hand protection.
@PuddingblendeR Oh I didn't know you were asking me if the armor is good against staff. As I said, I have not personally tested the armor against hard weapons. The best bet is to look around and determine for yourself. I would post links but youtube won't let me, so do a google search for "sportsword armor" and "Motorcross protection." You should find the stuff you see in the vid. Later.
@airtsuamark Wow, so sorry for the late reply, I must have missed this completely. The armor was not bought from Century. It is actually modified Lacrosse gear....
I love weapons combat of all kinds, and I bet I would like this too. Have you ever tried SCA combat? I went from 9 years of Kenjutsu directly in to swinging a 4 pound 6 foot rattan stick in the SCA. Wow! You gotta try it. There are different weapon systems as well, I've been doing it now for 3 years and I'm still learning new technique every week.
Hi Doug, no I haven't done SCA, but I know folks that have. Seems like fun stuff, but there's a lot of freedom to practice with various weapons with the people I know. Currently I'm working on quarterstaff.
Sport sword is supposed to be similar to chanbara. Do a google search for chanbara and visit the samurai sports website. Look through the pics to see what I'm talking about.
Personally Kendo is my favorite of all of them. Having experience in kendo, fencing, and sport sword I can say that of course kendo and fencing will always be considered at a higher level because of how long they've been established. But the one thing I can say that is interesting about sport sword is the fact that anything goes. Anything is a target. There is no "right of way" like in foil fencing. It is not restricted to 4 targets like kendo. And you can mix different weapon types.
where can buy such armor?
and is it also resistent against wooden weapons like rattan escrima stick?
and wich parts of the body are protected?

Very cool. Where can I find some info on the 'sport sword' scene?

Well my best advice is to do a Google search for "Sport Sword." You'll get plenty of info. You can even purchase a DVD.
