Vista is not bad, you just need to know how to tweak it. I recommend you stay XP over 7, but 7 is pretty optimized, it's close to XP than it is to Vista. :)
A quick note if you do get Windows 7 - It doesn't come with Windows Movie Maker built-in any more for some reason. You'd have to download Windows Live Movie Maker and, aside from being able to upload stuff directly to YouTube from it, it isn't really very good for editing LP videos compared to other versions of Movie Maker, IMO.
I think you emphasized the "thrilling" part of that last message to mean that it must bore you to death when you try to play it at half speed because of the recording.

I think it's N64, but it's VERY rare so i advise you get it on emulator.
