Kinski's close up of his eyes, as effective as Van Cleef's Angel Eyes and Bronson's Harmonica. Ennio's passionate music during the love scene is simply spot on. After the Dollar trilogy and One Upon A Time In The West, this under rated movie should also be up on that list of classics. Very unique movie in so many ways. The title theme is as haunting as the one from "Death Rides A Horse". The snowy locations is a definite departure from the usual hot and arid places seeing in most westerns.

A unique movie in so many ways. (Its also called "The Big Silence"). This must be the whitest movie I've ever seen!! All that snow!! And that brutal ending still makes me gasp. Morricone is as brilliant as usual. The title theme always fills me with such sadness. It always amazes me how this man can make musical instruments weep!! Kinski is simply frightening. A very under rated movie. Only marred by Trintignant's Mauser 1912 semi automatic pistol which never existed in this period.
