This was my first Tosca recording... totally forgot about it, thanks for the video! I did not realize until now that this Tosca I watched long ago is Guleghina.
I like them both and I am very excited to hear Guleghina as Tosca in the full opera, not only in this excerpt, which belongs truly to Scarpia and not to Tosca ;)

Purtroppo su questo sito vi sono presenti video di Tosca suoi recenti,2006-2008,nei quali aveva già 72-74 anni, però cmq vi può dare una grande idea dello Scarpia ke cantava a 45-55 anni nel pieno delle doti vocali.E sentirete ke civiltà di suono pulito senza portamenti, ke fraseggio nonostante l'età e soprattutto l'eleganza del personaggio stesso,il quale nn va cantato urlando ma con nobiltà! ASPETTO NOTIZIE
Yes, I know Bruson had a great voice when was 45-55, and I wish I could see him as Scarpia from that time. It's wonderful that he still sings but it's not quite the same.
I've seen a recording of this production with Raimondi (1997).
The director obviously wanted to portray Scarpia as very cold and not genuinely interested in Tosca. Raimondi is so deeply sensual that he was struggling within the confines of the "cold Scarpia" concept and was visibly restraining his emotions. Nucci, on the other hand, portrays exactly that-- his Scarpia is a cold, indifferent man who will have Tosca if an opportunity arises, but who doesn't truly desire her.
Leo Nucci is such a kind-looking Scarpia!!

Anche nel ruolo più lontano dalle caratteristiche della sua voce, quale è Scarpia, Nucci è sempre perfettamente credibile. Un artista meraviglioso
