While KDE 4 was a bit of a trauma, it was indeed like a revolution, especially in the long run. This, however, just seems like the same old shit remixed once again with the fu***g windows flying all over.
@cr561979 If you use many programs, having multiple desktops is essential. I separate the programs on each desktop by activity. For instance, sometimes I have a desktop for my normal activity at home, then a desktop I might leave open for homework I'm working on that I know I'm going to need all the windows again, then another desktop for a programming project, etc. If I had all those windows on one desktop it would be a clusterfuck.
Firefox's panorama might nullify some of this now though.
I like Gnome Shell but not the side bar Gnome Do in dock mode dose is better thats how I use Gnome Shell as I cant get on with it unless I have Gnome Do
...if adoption is good and people like it, then continue to iron out any bugs/problems (which there will be), and then eventually include it, IF it's is democratically elected, as part of gnome. Anything else is just pushing something onto users which they don't necessarily want.
Horrible. I hope the gnome shell isn't included as the default like is currently planned. The whole reason why gnome because the most successful desktop environment is because is gradually evolved the user interface to what people want, bit by bit. This is essentially throwing away a lot of that evolution in favor of something that a certain portion of developers happen to want. The correct thing to do would be to release gnome shell to the masses and see what adoption is like....
I just hope that the screen wouldn't keep animated / zooming in and out, and doing all those kind of movement, every time you try to click on a menu... It looks so a annoying.... Plus is that mulit desktop thing really that useful? I think 4 is more than enough. you can only do one thing at a time, and it only allow you to see one thing a time as well, if you need to open more windows side by side, you need more Monitors....
I didnt think I would like it, so I tried it. Now I really hate it. Looks like I am going KDE.
Reasons I didnt like the GShell was I felt like it slowed the user down from actually doing work as the user had to spend more time working with the desktop. Also GShell looked to me very unprofessional and a waste of desk space. Last but not least on smaller monitors its going to make seeing what program the user has running on that desktop much harder to see.
There is another problem with this design: it makes the assumption that the user is going to be adding and removing desktops all the time, which probably isn't the case and probably won't be the case in the forseable future.
Don't like it, this whole windows scale thing looks much nicer and faster in compiz. I truly admire the people creating gnome, but they should focus on their own areas.
i like the idea plus its different from the rest of window managers out their seems to need some more work of course but it looks like it should be good to interact with
Part of me likes this because it shows you everything about everything: it doesn't just show all application windows or all virtual desktops, it shows both. I just can't imagine using more then 4 (or possibly 6) desktops though, and with as few desktops as I use I think it would probably be easier to see everything.

gnome-do is a toi for children and monkeys. Enterprise system what gnome supposed to be can't include such a badly designed apps. Each apps should have consistent look, gnome do doesn't.
ahbahpuh: Fortunately, despite it's name, Gnome-Do is NOT an official part of the Gnome project. And despite it's instability, I still love the darn thing.
To the complainers, you have a number of choices and sub-choices here:
1. Try it out A. Decide that you like it B. Decide that there are parts that you don't like I. Submit suggestions to the developers II. Work with the developers and fix them yourself or fork the project III. Shut The Fuck Up
2. Don't try it out A. Complain about it and say it sucks based off a youtube video B. Shut The Fuck Up

It's a bit complicated ,because if you want only use mouse (and the application isn't in the short list ,you must click on more and then in the category of the program and in the end on the program ,but if you use the "search " it's very easy find the application
Thumbs up if you came here from "The argument against multiple desktops" from piestar dot net.

I've never figured out why people need multiple desktops instead of simply hitting a tab in the taskbar.
And all this zooming will make the work just tedious especially since most pc are getting les watt consuming and subsequently slower

@lowtone10 Compiz? It replaces compiz when it's on, if that's what you mean.

meh, i like the multi desktop function of ubuntu, scroll in 3d or map controls to switch between apps\desktops. solid convenient and practical.

Just found out there will be a Gnome 2.30 release after all. That is, Gnome 3 will not equal the Gnome 2.30 release.

Gnome 3 should focus on integrating gnome-do on the system, it's the best they can do.

No, it can integrate with buggy search engines, but it doesn't make a real search.
