I enjoy the Warcraft mythos a great deal because unlike much other fantasy, Orcs ((At least Post-Mannoroth Orcs)) are depicted as a far nobler race. Thrall's biggest wish is to lead his people to freedom and peace. While Humans are depicted as a species who, while still holding the remnants of nobility have become little more than petty kingdoms led by a xenophobic psycho squabbling over land and power in the aftermath of a power vacuum. As a fiction writer myself, I applaud Blizzard on this.

Yeah, I love that too about the universe of warcraft. all the "bestial" creatures of the horde are more than they appear. I guess that's true also in real life: ugly is not neccessarily evil, just as beautiful is not innately good. I love the fact that they challenge this old concept depicted in most fairytales with handsome princes and ugly ogres. I guess the world would be a better place if we applied the philosophy of seeing behind mere appearance also in real life. atleast that's my creed

As was all high fantasy of today. Unless it predates Lord of The Rings, all fantasy of swords and magic and shields and valiant heroes is going to take inspiration from it. Warcraft, most D&D campaign supplements, Wheel of Time, Eragon, hell, even Harry Potter. If it wasn't written prior to Tolkein's masterworks, than it most definitely draws inspiration from it. I'm not saying they rip him off, they're just inspired by it.

Actually, in mythology, Elves are more often than not depicted as small humanoids with pointed ears, closer in height to Warcraft's Gnomes than anything else. They come from Irish and other Celtic mythologies generally though they are also present in Norse myth. I never said Tolkein's work was completely original so don't assume I did, he was a professor of language and a scholar of mythology, of course he was inspired by older works.

He is entitled as Magus Medivh (he took the tittle from his mother Magna Aegwynn) that means he is the protector of balance in azeroth or was, so to speak. with him leyline of great maguses stopped. at least i think so. Rhonin is now believed to be that kind of preserver. but he's merely the leader of Kirin Tor.
